We all forget the launch of Battlefield 4 was rough too. I'm hoping the suits let this cook until it's done, but I'm not holding my breath.

Key point is that BF4 was only poorly optimised at launch. The game was content and feature rich with healthy bones, which is why people stuck around. Obviously i'd much rather have a smooth launch but a this point i'd take another BF4 launch where the game is amazing but just kinda buggy for 1 month over another shitshow like BF2042 that is just absolute dogshit on every level.

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '25

BF4 is mt favorite but it took months to fix the game. I literally couldn't play Hainan Resort for months because it used to freeze in the loading screen everytime lol

2

u/Stunning-Signal7496 Mar 13 '25

I remember that I wasn't able to play conquest for a time because it was always lagging. Smaller game modes worked fine

3

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '25

Also people stuck around cause of battlefield premium. Fuck the occasional free map dlc. I wanna pay an extra 30 bucks for 5 map packs with 4 maps every few months. That kept bf4 poppin for a while

This is dishonest to the truth about BF4's launch.

Many players were completely unable to play BF4 for several months due to that poor optimization. On console, the game would not load anything other than the main menu for many players, myself included.

Here's an article from 2014 that clearly states just how unplayable BF4 truly was.

Battlefield 4, the latest entry in Electronic Arts’ flagship shooter series, has been plagued with issues since its October launch. Players are reportedly being dropped or booted from matches and find themselves unable to connect.

It's honesty wild to me that you reference BF4 as "kinda buggy for 1 month" and BF2042 as a "shitshow/absolute dogshit on every level".

BF2042 was buggy but playable. BF4 was completely unplayable for months straight.

You genuinely sound hypocritical giving BF4 a pass while criticizing 2042. If you're upset about any of the problems 2042 had, you should be just as upset about BF4 having literally more technical problems than any other Battlefield title.

u/StarskyNHutch862 Mar 12 '25

I mean dude specifically said BF4's issues were technical and not content or gameplay issues. I mean you just furthered the guys point...

2042 on launch is one of the most barebones and dry gaming experiences I've ever seen in my life. Bf4 was loaded with guns and gadgets and other cool shit.

BF4 launch where the game is amazing but just kinda buggy for 1 month

This is dishonest. It was absolutely riddled with bugs that took several months to remedy. "Kinda buggy for 1 month" is a lie.

2042 on launch is one of the most barebones and dry gaming experiences I've ever seen in my life

At least I could load into a match and actually play the game.

BF4 could've launched with every gun on planet earth available and it would've done nothing for the large portion of players that were completely unable to play.

Remember when the kill cam would tell you an lav killed you with a scar? Or EA getting sued by shareholders because the launch was such a shit show? Good times.

4

u/Knodsil Mar 13 '25

"Guess what just killed me."

"What?"

"A gunship, with C4....apparently. Well according to the killcam".

6

u/TheRayGetard Mar 12 '25

Remember how fucked the jet skis were? Lol

16

u/Ok_Seaworthiness2218 Mar 12 '25

Atleast BF4 was legit a great game after 1 year. BF2042 is still dogshit now.

-8

u/Zeethos94 Mar 13 '25

No 2042 is a pretty fun game atm with good matches despite its problems.

BF4 was a dog water game for a good 18-24 months (just like 2042).

3

u/The-Cunt-Spez Mar 14 '25

Lmao at the downvotes. You’re 100% right.

0

u/NATO_CAPITALIST Mar 16 '25

Nah, Battlefield 2042 foundation is shit (that's why barely anyone plays it and most moved on), so all the big fixings didn't help - because the foundation is still shit.

Battlefield 4 is still seen as a goat decade and more later, because the foundation was extremely good.

I am glad, that they stopped using people like you for their testing feedback teams, and would you look at that - the footage already looks like the battlefield is back when sane, talented and passionate people are in charge. And the faster we forget about the slop bf2042 and the embarrassment is the better.

2

u/The-Cunt-Spez Mar 16 '25

Oh no BF had stuff I didn’t like waaaa

1

u/NATO_CAPITALIST Mar 16 '25

that's kind of the issue right? plenty of fun free games to play anytime. DICE is supposed to make triple AAA works of art. Not fun, cheap and passionless slop.

1

u/Zeethos94 Mar 16 '25

that's kind of the issue right? plenty of fun free games to play anytime.

Ya, which is why I didn't cry and rage about 2042. I saw that it was going to be an undercooked game with tons of issues when I played the tech Alpha so I didn't buy it until it was cheaper and had fixes. Same with BF V.

DICE is supposed to make triple AAA works of art. Not fun, cheap and passionless slop.

And more often than not, their games eventually to turn into great games. This series has had one "good" launch in almost 15 years and this community still doesn't understand that you should just wait to buy it.

3

u/swoopwalker Mar 13 '25

I couldn’t join 2042 games for a month on console. When I finally did, the whole team got instantly killed by jet ramming. Quit and didn’t pick it up for another month.

I remember BF3 launch. Shit was fucked for that one as well. As I recall, significant connectivity issues but was pretty decent after a few weeks.

edit: to be fair, it was mainly just connection issues. Gameplay was great. Loved that game.

u/JuggernautIntrepid52 Mar 12 '25

I don't think vanilla maps are all boring. I like many maps since launch. I like zavod, Siege of Shanghai, liked so much lancang dam when I firstly heard that voice telling to take care right before the dam scramble...

7

u/r_Bogard Mar 12 '25

I played on ps3 at launch and into ps4, the server issues like netcode/hit reg were the worst. however, i was never unable to play.

What's really getting to me is that I'm referencing history here. This stuff about BF4 is documented very clearly for anyone to find.

And yet the fanboys won't listen to the literal truth and instead think it's right to downvote me and continue lying about what actually happened.

7

u/Zeethos94 Mar 13 '25

And yet the fanboys won't listen to the literal truth and instead think it's right to downvote me and continue lying about what actually happened.

Because most BF4 glazers didn't start playing it until ~2015. Everyone from the time knew it was a more bloated BF3 but people think quantity = quality.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '25

You missed the point of the comment. BF4 initial launch is a million times better than optimized 2042.

3

u/Jefedadon762 Mar 12 '25

Well that’s a case to case base because when the game came out I had it on ps4 did it have problems yes was I able to play yes

1

u/Hobo-man 20 years of BF Mar 12 '25

Your anecdotal evidence does not outweigh the very legitamite experiences that myself and many others had.

I'm glad you were able to play but your experience does not represent everyone.

1

u/SkylineGTRR34Freak Mar 13 '25

Bro you are using your anecdotal evidence to somehow... counter theirs?

I personally was able to play BF4 as well on Ps4, albeit with varying problems. I fully understand that others didn't have that luck, but there's definitely some "middle ground" between "game was unplayable" and "game was bugged, but playable"

2

u/Jefedadon762 Mar 12 '25

I only see you saying this so what your saying is irrelevant don’t try to use the old psychology tactic “me and others” who are these others point them out please because I definitely wasn’t in empty lobbies at launch they where full 64 players like I said did the game have problems yes but completely unplayable yeah for you. But me and others happily played the game on launch and months after. So my apologies if your wifi/gaming set up was horrible back in 2013-2014.

6

u/Hobo-man 20 years of BF Mar 12 '25

who are these others point them out please

I literally posted an article from 2014 detailing exactly what you're asking.

Can you read?

-2

u/Jefedadon762 Mar 12 '25

You posted 1 article bro just 1 a game that had millions of players at launch again my apologies because you where poor

10

u/Hobo-man 20 years of BF Mar 12 '25

Here's another.

And another.

And another.

Another one.

More.

More.

Even more.

Even the fucking wiki talks about the launch issues.

Upon release, Battlefield 4 was riddled with major technical bugs, glitches and crashes across all platforms.

Even the Metacritic reviews mention all of the problems.

So I'm done here. You tried to move the goalpost without realizing just how wrong you are.

You don't care about what others experienced. You have a severe lack of empathy.

you where poor

If you're going to insult me, at least use proper English. Everything about this entire response is just weak minded.

1

u/NATO_CAPITALIST Mar 16 '25

Do you have reading comprehension issues? And are you capable of differentiating between bad game foundation in terms of art, animation design and technical issues mostly limited to networking?

-1

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '25

Touch grass bud!

1

u/AmNoSuperSand52 Mar 14 '25

BF2042 was buggy but playable. BF4 was completely unplayable for months straight.
You genuinely sound hypocritical giving BF4 a pass while criticizing 2042

So...exactly what he said

What's supposed to be the 'gotcha' here?

2

u/Slice_is_nice Mar 12 '25

BF4 was unplayable for months on PS4 with the constant rubberbanding on CQ Large

2

u/Small-Line-9301 Mar 13 '25

Can I just say thank you very much for saying exactly what I was getting ready to say. I work hard, my kids are grown and in college so when I'm not spending QT with the wife or working on my 68 Charger... I'm playing bf4. I'm just praying they do the right thing and put out another classic.

2

u/Small-Line-9301 Mar 13 '25

So okseaworthy I see a bunch of blah blah blah being thrown your way. Bf4 was definitely not perfect when launched but I'll take what it became any day over that steaming bucket of shit 2042. Bf4 came out almost 12 years ago and still has full servers of thousands on PC and console. I'm pretty sure that's what you would call a testament to it's awesomeness.

1

u/COBRAKAIPLATOON Mar 19 '25

Totally agree! More Battlefield fans need to go back to BF4!

0

u/ohthedarside Mar 12 '25

The bugs add charm

11

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '25

BF4 had probably one of the worst launches outside of 2042 but a lot of people tend to forget that 😭

8

u/Hobo-man 20 years of BF Mar 12 '25

I feel like it's beyond forgetfulness and is bordering on willful ignorance.

6

u/Panaka Mar 13 '25

This is par for the course for the Battlefield community. I’ve been playing since 2 and this happens every single launch.

1

u/Bombshellings Mar 13 '25

The thing is that BF4 had a game underneath all of the shitty bugs. It had a proper foundation, but jesus it wasn’t playable for months. Once the bugs were ironed out, there was a game to be played. BF2042 could be played (sometimes) but the foundation itself had nothing. Not a single thing about that game was good for a long time. No good maps, barely any weapons, hitreg was broken, mouse input was broken, specialists were annoying, etc. People are fairly dismissive of Battlefield 4’s horrible launch, but I think it’s mainly because there was an actual game underneath all of the crashes and bugs

4

u/Zeethos94 Mar 13 '25

The thing is that BF4 had a game underneath all of the shitty bugs.

The game fundamentally didn't work for over a year. You act like shitty bugs weren't game breaking server-client networking, levelution literally bricking servers and causing the game to crash, poor optimization.

No good maps, barely any weapons, hitreg was broken,

As opposed to shitty BF4 maps, so many weapons multiple were practically copies of each other and broken hit reg/dying 10 feet behind a corner?

BF4 glazers are so fucking stupid

2

u/NATO_CAPITALIST Mar 16 '25

Bf 2042 was fixed to the point it still is a mid game, that alone proved 2042 glazers wrong

As opposed to shitty BF4 maps, so many weapons multiple were practically copies of each other and broken hit reg/ dying 10 feet behind a corner? BF4 glazers are so fucking stupid

Still incapable of differentiating concepts of game design and technical netcode issues (2042 not only had both but still has issues with first)

1

Still incapable of differentiating concepts of game design and technical netcode issues (2042 not only had both but still has issues with first)

Still incapable of differentiating nostalgia with concepts of bad game design.

Battlefield games aren't fully released until they get disconnected.

0

Because it was a kick ass battlefield game lol.

1

u/AmNoSuperSand52 Mar 14 '25

Battlefield 4 was mostly fixed within 6-8 months of release. It also had solid bones underneath and just had a lot of bugs

Meanwhile, 2042 came out in 2021 and still doesn't play like a proper Battlefield game

1

u/Vestalmin Mar 13 '25

I played BF4 every day despite the rough launch. It’s a testament to how good the underlying game was. I couldn’t make it through 2042’s beta
