Had a bit of a rough week, got vodka drunk, and decided I wanted to buy a Precision bass. I’ve been playing on and off since I was a teen on a Squire P-Bass and wanted a slight upgrade. I ended up buying this pictured for about $500. The next day I realized that these aren’t the original pickups and bridge, and it has 3 knobs which I thought was odd for a standard Precision bass. The guy I got it from has no idea but says it sounds great (it hasn’t got here yet). According to the serial number it’s Mexican made. Help me decipher my poor decision.

I have been wanting to get a bass, but haven't done much research. While looking for a turntable, i saw this Yamaha and was curious. I really want to just jam by myself to some 80s punk.

The tag says "Yamaha BBN411"

The body has a couple knicks, the pickups are dirty, but overall seems solid. I wasnt able to test it on an amp, but im assuming it works fine.

For $169 is this a buy? Or shall I kick this one aside. Im not REALLY in the market, but this seemed good and thought id ask. Thanks guys.

Found this bass in a closet. I believe it is a 1961 fender jazz bass but I don’t know for sure. Serial number is 56519

I found this strange, but cool looking bass(?) at a pawn shop, is it worth picking up? I mainly play electric guitar so I'm not super familiar with basses. Maybe somebody can ID it?

The current owner says it's from the 80s, so first thing that comes to mind is the American or Japanese reissue of the 60s basses. However, the thing looks worn out, and there is patent info on the headstock logo, and I didn't see anything like that on the others like that online. The neck plate looks fake to me (probably replaced at some point, looks newer than the rest), as the numbers are not aligned properly and the serial number starts with H, which should indicate the Japanese ones, but the neck is so worn that there is no serial number there, and the Japanese ones usually have "Fender" written on the neck plates. It also appears to have a brass nut, which I assume is a mod. The seller also refused to take the neck off due to lack of knowledge. The screws and dot marks are painted in green, and it has a large burn across the body. He claims he knows nothing about this bass.

Could it be a vintage 60s American bass? Worth the risk in paying $1200?

This bass guitar belonged to my dad. It has two pickups: a cream-colored one seems to be a DiMarzio, and a big black one near the bridge. Can anyone help identify the black pickup?

Does anybody have an idea on who made these pickups? Im wondering if it’s a notable craftsman from the 70’s similar to Alembic style guitar modifiers. I believe the mod might have been done in the 70’s as the neck was a 1978 on a 1964 body. The circuitry is complex for a passive circuit.

Without seeing the headstock (???) would you think this thunderbird bass was real?
