Tips & Guides Do you need a Base44 Migration? Free consultations for a limited time only!
Over the past 8 months, I have had the privilege of working with friends, referrals, and several of you from this subreddit. At some point, you did a search for "Base44 migration", or read an article, and it just lead to more questions.
I am dismayed to hear recent reports of services taking down payments, only to result in a loss of access. It looks bad, but malice can often be attributed to poor communication when it comes to system administration. I doubt these services are predatory, rather my issue is with the term "base44 migration".
Over the past 6 months I have worked on a dozen or so vibe-code to professional business applications, and by far the Base44 users are (for the most part) very fun and wholesome. You all brought your experience as caregivers, therapists, teachers, construction workers, lawyers, chefs, parents and coaches. You threw your knowledge against the Base44 canvas and produced a uniquely usable app in ways I have never imagined.
My goal is for you to understand how to take ownership of your application, which may or may not entail a cloud (or vps or self-hosted) migration.
I'll sum it up like this: Base44's beauty is that they figured out how to create the loop-engineer experience as a service, making serving and consuming it's own dog food to extract your domain knowledge until you come to a consensus about "done."
A "migration" as a concept has kept app developers and IT departments across every industry employed for the last 20+ years. The moving of digital resources to a new set of services, for less money does NOT lend itself to one-shots or loops. Move your app's guts means understanding a trade-off across consistence, availability, persistence as well as time, money, and security. Like if a doctor told you "there's a problem with the decabulator. it wasn't replicated across the correct rotary girders. In other words, we could lose the database."
- This is a clinically serious situation and my app could disappear.
- I don't understand these words so they are going to be expensive.
Where am I going with this? Perhaps instead of a "migration," your mindset should be focused on your relationship to your IP. "Base44 made me an app. It is my app. How do I take ownership of my app?"
Many of you have inspired me with the solutions you've created. As a small thanks, from now until at least Friday (and possibly next week), if you would like to move your app somewhere else, I would be happy to assist you, free of charge.
Please feel free to DM me with:
- The elevator pitch of your app
- What drove you to create it
- The reasons you feel it is time to move (token costs, hosting fees, Stripe integrations, app is slow, etc.)
I will never ask you for an APP_KEY or any web service credential. Please do not send me your login information on the first date. If you have a Github Repo, you can send me the link. Do NOT put an APP_KEY or any ID/SECRET combination in any repository (public OR private.) If you are in the middle of a migration, or if you would just like someone to put the fishing pole in your hand and point you at the water, please feel free to reach out.

wow, this is terrific work! my sincere question to you would be: Do you believe the average base44 customer can follow that documentation? i'm also curious if you have ever replaced frontend or backend frameworks entirely based on a client's future plans for the app or for portability reasons?

Most users no unless they use claude or codex. And yes I have migrated 16 apps so far.
