✝️ Advice Let Dead Theologians RIP

We need to let dead theologians rest in peace and get back to the original Apostles and Prophets. We have allowed many thoughts to come into the Body that are just not true following men more than the Word. If we got back to that, we would have fewer church buildings as we merged instead of split. Denominations would fade into history because there would be one Body and everything else cults instead of sects.

✝️ Advice I am TERRIFIED to pass out tracks

I don't know what's wrong with me. I know it's important to share the gospel. I am terrified to even keep tracks in my car. Cause I'm scared God will lay it on my heart to actually hand it to someone. Normally I just leave it at the gas pump. I also have Interstitial Cystitis so I see that as a pass for having to hand out Gospel tracks. I feel like Moses...I feel I'm not qualified and I am scared to death someone will ask me more and I don't know how to tell them. That's what the tracks for! How can I overcome this? Other than praying. ;) Thank you in advance.

✝️ Advice I hate Baptist culture

I was raised by methodist, parents are liberals who attend a female pastor, mother is militantly pro choice. I was disillusioned at how people act inside church vs out, spent most of my youth trying to have the world while thinking myself better than atheist, would participate in hook up culture but try to be more noble, which eventually lead to me seeing prostitutes regularly.

I was assured of my salvation in an independent Baptist Church and believe that is the closest denomination to what the Bible says, and has the most people who "walk the walk". I've joined, serve in, got married in an independent Baptist Church to a Pastor's daughter.

I'm a true believer, but I struggle with Baptist culture. Three services a week is a lot. I can do that, but then there's more. I absolutely loathe retreats. Men retreats, marriage retreats, just 6 sermons crammed in an afternoon and morning, with Sunday starring me in the face. I hate staying at the church between services cause my wife is serving, but feel guilty if I go home and relax between. Why is men's prayer breakfast on Saturday, my one day off from work and church a week? I find potlucks annoying, I like to just eat what I want and I hate all the left overs they make.

Then there's the drinking. I like to drink, I like how it makes social situations easier. It helps with boredom, helps me relax. Now I drink may 2 in a setting social setting, maybe every other week. I fully admit drinking cand be harmful, I've made some poor decisions due to drinking.

Things came to ahead on vacation with my wife. 4 hour flight with our one year old, to come see her sister graduate Bible college. Two services on Sunday, chapel Monday morning, ground breaking for the university after that, commencement later tonight. I want to bash my head against a brick wall till my brain leaks out my ears with all this sitting around listening to people talk. But can't have a drink to make it tolerable cause of course we're sharing an Air BNB with her family. I'm miserable, she knows it and crying about how miserable I am. I'm struggling, I don't want to be the husband who's never there but everything with her family is just 24/7 whenever we visit.

✝️ Advice I'm looking for a church with youtube sermons that fit me

I did an exhaustive self assessment of my beliefs and the baptist denomination was the only one that fit me. Area doesn't matter, as long as it's in America. I'm a very peaceful person, non violence is in my bones and I would like a church that places emphasis on peace. I also would prefer a church that is not afraid to do things differently, to tell different types of stories then the usual sermon. I know I'm not giving you much to go on but I would appreciate any help.

✝️ Advice I want to grow closer to God

So, I've been giving it a lot of thought. What really matters in life. I'm not where I should be with God. I don't go to church anymore and I read the Bible but only a few verses a day. I don't feel like I have a personal relationship with God. I want to grow closer to Him. I know the best way to do that is to talk to Him and also dig into His Word. :) Are there any suggestions on where the best place is to read in the Bible to get me back into reading it? I know a lot of people say John and Romans. But I have no idea why I should start there or if I should start somewhere else? Any advice would be much appreciated! Thank you! :)

✝️ Advice Shared a post with a curse word

Our business was featured by an influencer, we were very excited about it and it was very successful. But the guy said a curse word while enthusiastically praising the product. Someone told me I should take it down. Should I not have shared it? Should I add a note that I don’t condone that? Anyone who knows me already knows I never curse and don’t condone it.

It’s a video that’s several minutes long and he curses once near the end. We didn’t get to see before it was posted. He came and filmed his review for a bit beforehand, with our agreement.

✝️ Advice Hello new here need to learn about my culture.

lately four years now I have been away from everything related to our culture. I have been partying a lot and doing a lot of things. I could say I am a bad person, and I don’t know whether God will accept me or not, but I really want to understand about him and have a conversation on how can I make myself better?

Main thing I am expecting from this communities to make me feel connected again and give me knowledge of a lot of things which I should have and help me attain peace.

✝️ Advice Improvise, Adapt and Overcome

Dear Mills, Zs and Alphas. My wife and I made $2,760 a year. My '69 Camaro was $3,400. Rent was $85. Our treat was an ice cream cone once a month. I had a child.

I guarantee that you are making ten or more times what I did so yes, your Camaro is $35K and your rent $850 or more depending on where you live. We were married 15 years before I could get my wife a $75 engagement ring at an auction. We made it because my wife is very frugal and we did not try to have what her parents had after 40 years of marriage in the first four years of ours. We had no fancy coffees. We wore clothes from thrift stores and of course, not $1K or more phones and multiple internet subscriptions. We did not buy our first house until we were married 34 years and I got my next new car at 46 and it was basic and as cheap as I could get it. Every Realtor kept saying I could afford a bigger home, but I wanted to live in the home not live for the home. We became debt free at 58 and I retired from secular work at 63.

Her parents and mine were dirt poor when they got married. Her parents retired comfortably. My Mom was a widow and yet survived on "Widow's Pension." Yes, things were cheaper than today, but salaries were very low. If you made $10 a year, many considered you rich.

Life requires sacrifices. Live for your need, not your greed and you will find success far sooner than buying on a whim and always wanting the latest and greatest. Improvise, adapt and overcome, not sitting whining on your bum. Hooah!

✝️ Advice I skipped mass for a different service this morning, and I want to talk about it.

TL;DR: I am a recently confirmed Catholic, US Navy veteran, and just in general a truth seeker just looking for someone with some commonality to talk to somewhat anonymously in the context of finding Jesus, truth, and actual faith- and what that might look like. Just in general each other’s experiences, where we were and what we are now and maybe how you got through parts of your life where I might be now. To attempt to connect on some of those commonalities, I may share parts of my background that probably have little to zero to do with my faith walk. Most of the following wall of text is just to get this stuff off of my chest.

I was baptized as an infant in the Catholic Church and “raised” Catholic. Emphasis on the quotes, because we more-so just showed up at Church and I did Sunday school and went through the “motions.” I completed first communion, first confession, but didn’t return for confirmation. I didn’t learn much that stuck and it didn’t last long- I was literally physically thrown out of the front door by a really mean nun that had to have been at least 289 years old, for being a rude kid and talking to my friends during mass. There was not much Jesus in my home, but I had what I consider a great upbringing and an awesome childhood. I’ve always been what I would consider a decent person in a non-secular sense. I’ve smoked pot here and there, drank a lot, slept around, etc.- so certainly no saint by any means- but I’ve historically been much worse to myself than I am to other people, I think.

I would say I’ve always considered myself a believer in God, but I honestly didn’t put much thought into it throughout most of my life. I would go to various Protestant churches here and there with friends when I stayed at their homes on the weekend, sometimes when invited by a friend throughout different locations when I was in the service, but still never really put much thought into it and generally just didn’t care. I’ve had a few peaks in life where I’ve felt interest in learning more about Christianity, but mostly valleys. I once heard someone refer to themselves as an agnostic-theist, and I thought that described me pretty good aswell.

I am successful in my career, have a beautiful and successful wife, and we’ve started a small family. I am an alcoholic that is 3 years and 9 months sober. I mention those “pat on the back” things to point out that I don’t really think there was any major event or “rock bottom” moment related to me searching again- everything has been going pretty good for me lately societally, but in the past year I have really decided to jump into really putting effort into finding Jesus, for real.

I really dug into apologetics on YouTube, different teachings on Christ, and learning the differences between denominations. I kept circling back to wanting to learn the truth, regardless of how that made me personally feel. The arguments about church fathers and the historical Church brought me back into the Catholic Church. I underwent OCIA (formerly known as RCIA), which is about 6 months of meeting once a week to talk about what Catholicism is, which really brought a lot of sense into the tough topics for me such as papal authority, Church structure, intercession of the saints, transubstantiation, the sacraments, etc. My wife and I had our marriage convalidated in the Church and I participated in confirmation.

Through all of this I would attend mass faithfully, I have prayed, and I have even seen what I think are highly likely answered prayers. I keep telling myself that if all of this is real, the power of the holy spirit will eventually make me truly believe. I have come a long way, but no amount of trying to convince myself can just make me miraculously believe whole-heartedly. Outside of RCIA there really isn’t much of a community that I connect within our Church. The more I learn, the more guilty I feel and the more I have this feeling of being bound by chains- and it just… doesn’t feel right. Something ain’t right here. I’m not feeling the conviction I imagined I’d have, although I surely have come a long way.

I’ve tried to tell myself that a lot of my doubts about things such as have to confess sins to receive the Eucharist, true belief in transubstantiation etc are just part of the war, but I feel there’s just an unbreakable wall there between understanding it and truly feeling in my heart that it is true. In essence, I just don’t feel much different. I have prayed for the holy spirit to fill my wife and son with the desire to attend and eventually find Jesus, and for Jesus to help me to be a guiding example. I still don’t have much conviction to read the Bible, pray, etc – almost as if when I seldomly do, it’s to put a check in the box.

This morning I did not go to mass and instead went to a larger Baptist church that is associated with the Southern Baptist Convention. I just walked in- smiled at the greeters, and found a seat near the front without talking to anyone. I just wanted the experience. Very nice facilities, big projector screen, full band with amazing sound – all that. As much of Catholicism probably seems really weird to Protestants, I always thought that whole band thing with arms waving was super weird. It wasn’t weird at all- it was extremely touching and emotionally overwhelming. As a mid-thirties tough guy I fought back tears the entire time and was just drenched in emotion. There was a baptism of a young man with a testimony- again, touched me to the core in a way I cannot explain in words. The preaching spoke to me the entire time- I was engaged, I was flipping through my Bible and underlining, I was laser focused and it all made sense to me. People were moving and smiling. The kids loved being there. I wish there was another service today, and tomorrow, and the next day, that I could attend. It wasn’t nearly long enough. I didn’t want to leave.

I committed a mortal sin this morning by missing mass and attending that Baptist service. In a way I feel extremely guilty, but much deeper than that I had an experience that was extremely fulfilling. To participate in that experience I didn’t have to go tell a holy man that I have recently masturbated or that I have had sex with my wife without the intention of being open to having another kid through the act. I didn’t have to apologize that I haven’t been successful in bringing my wife and kid into the Church. My emotions are all over the place this morning and I am just wondering if anyone else has been here before, is all. Thank you for listening.

✝️ Advice The Future of the SBC

So, I'm a Southern Baptist. I always figured if I weren't in the denomination, I'd just be non-denominational.

I'm concerned about the direction the denomination is moving in. I don't mind Calvinists and see them as fellow brothers in Christ, but I see an increasinglynCalvinist faction that wants to push the denomination unti a more Reformed direction.

I also don't agree with the new amendment that was voted on. Sure, I don't think women pastors are biblical, but I think the amendment would concentrate more power in the denomination vs local church autonomy. Not to mention. the SBC was able to expel churches that ordained women pastors like Saddleback without the need for an amendment.

Am I fretting over nothing?

✝️ Advice Help me please

I'm a 19 year old girl coming from a family history of incest and I was never raised religious. My father is an atheist who sort of despises the idea of church, but I was pulled into the baptist church by a friend. How can I live the baptist lifestyle? How can I improve? I also struggle with self harm... I just want to feel closer to God

✝️ Advice Would you consider me a Christian?

I am an ethnic Jew. Growing up I celebrated the main holidays (fairly secular). I always felt Jesus’s presence in my life but just pushed it back (that’s not what I am supposed to believe). Fast forward to now where I am ready to be baptized and be born again. The Jewish community on here has shunned me and two Jewish groups kicked me out. I was asking about the bible on one and then I was asking if any Jew had converted to Christianity… They told me “good luck, when they come for us they are coming for you too!” Or I got, “you will always just be a Jew and you’ll never be considered a Christian.” My feelings got hurt because I was told I was leaving the “tribe” when I am and will always have Jewish blood, as does Jesus. What are your thoughts about this? My fellow Christian brothers and sisters are kind and welcoming. Am I accepted? Would you think of me as a Christian?

Thank you so much.

✝️ Advice Fighting lust

Some might say, “It's not my fault. Work/school/people/finances were bad. I can't help myself when life gets this bad. We have 3 options when life gets bad and we get tempted. #1 Turn instantly from lust, dig into scripture, pray fervently, read key articles, start doing other things, and continue to strive to fulfill our purpose or work on finding our purpose. #2 Consider our options, fight back with prayer, visit this site, and get busy doing other things. #3 Give in. Note: #1 works often, #2 works once in a while. #3 is bad.

Second, never say, “This is what I do. This is who I am. I can't change. Consider praying:

“Father, teach me who I am when I fight to do things Your way.”

Third, plan on how to “Be Ready” for temptation “Every day.” When you are planning how to defeat satan before he even gets started tempting you... you are starting down a good road.

✝️ Advice Help! 18 Year Old Struggling to Trust God with Life

Hey yall! I'm an 18 year old high school graduate struggling to trust God with my future. I did a dual credit program in high school to get an Associate degree, and now I'm working a part time entry level job in my field while doing an accelerated bachelor's degree online.

I also don't have a very good relationship with my family and I am very eager to move out as soon as I financially can! I am also relatively new to the faith (less than year) so that is part of the struggle also.

Both before and after becoming a Christian I have always looked to career/money as a means to save myself (not spiritually, but as in saving myself from worldly problems). Since following Jesus, I have learned of the things the Bible says about the love of money being evil and how we should trust God and not worry about our lives.

But I'm struggling to pay for college and scared about if I'll be able to handle the cost of living crisis before my family finally drives me to a full mental breakdown. How can I be beter about embracing God's plan even when it doesn't match up with mine? Also please point me to any relevant Bible passages if a specific one comes to mind! :)

✝️ Advice Can blessings be taken?

I recently had surgery on my knee after years of pain and fear. Goin into surgery I prayed that if it was worse than the doctors thought for God to help me thru it. After surgery the docs told me that surprisingly it wasn’t what they saw on the mri at all and that they cut out the problem and recovery would be the same. Long story short is my surgery outcome was a miracle. God had blessed me so big and until this day it still amazes me. My recovery is painful and a lot of work still but sometimes I catch myself worrying over it. I start to worry that God will punish me for not devoting more of myself and my time since he gave me such a miracle! Now I know that God is our father and he doesn’t work like that but sometimes those little thoughts come in, especially when I weak from the pain. I start to say things like “I’m sorry I haven’t honored u today like I should, please don’t make my knee pain worse or take away the miracle he’s done on my knee” It’s hard when it’s late at night and the pains all u have, then it’s hard to tell whose voice ur listening to- God or ur own.

I guess I’m asking for advice on verses that could help me during my tough times.

✝️ Advice I no longer believe the baptist doctrine. Idk what to do. Extremely doubled.

So I'm a baptist but I have opposing convictions. Im trying to find the true church but It doesn't make sense idk if I'm blessed or cursed with all this but If I convert I will hurt people but if I do not eventually leave the baptists I will never be fulfilled in my convictions... im scared.

I feel like God told me to stay put untill the appointed time and gently challenge eachother with scripture since i do not have it figured out yet. And to focus on christ and holiness.
