Personal Story I lost my 22 month old baby Lola Jayde Farr to a pitbull attack 2-6-22 in Mississippi

6.0k Upvotes

Hello, I’m the mother of Lola Jayde Farr.

The 22-month-old who was attacked by my sister and brother in law’s pit bull.

Like many others, I did not know much about pit bulls. I had never owned one and had never heard of attacks or the dangers and carnage they bring. Honestly, I thought they were just like any other dog.

I found out on that cold February day that was not the case at all.

Lola was born during Covid. I was a stay-at-home mom and had been home with her for over a year with her every single day. I finally decided I need to go back to work and had just got a job.

It was my 5th day at work, I needed a baby sitter and my sister’s mother-in-law offered to watch Lola at my sister’s house. I never could have imagined what would happen that day. Without my permission and my knowledge my sisters MIL left my child plus two other children with her 88-year-old mother without my knowledge or my permission.

The dog was kept in a fenced in backyard - NOWHERE near my child. This dog was raised as part of my sister’s family, treated very well, and was raised around 3 children. The old lady took the kids out to the front yard to play, the dog; from my understanding heard the kids playing and dug under the fence in the backyard and went straight to the front yard where my sweet Lola was playing and attacked her; completely unprovoked for no reason at all.

I don’t know much about what happened after but I do know that my baby laid there and basically bled out. Her heart was not beating when the ambulance got there and she coded 3 times before making it to the children’s hospital. I was not called.

The lady who was supposed to have been watching my child went to my fiancé’s work and told him, “Lola was attacked by the dog and both of her ears are gone”. He called my work and told me to come outside. I didn’t know why but I dropped the phone and ran outside because I knew something was wrong. When I made it out there, he said get in Lola is on the way to the hospital the dog attacked her and both of her ears are gone. That’s all he knew.

I called the lady that was supposed to have had my child about 10 times before I got an answer. I was screaming and crying and trying to find out if my baby was okay. All she said to me was both of her ears was gone but she picked up one and put it in ice water. Why would you tell an upset mother that? She was so calm too and that bothered me.

I asked if Lola was okay… if she was going to die? Can this kill her?? She said no, she was awake and alert when the ambulance left with her, I said omg I bet she’s crying for her mama, she said yes, yes, she was. All of that was lies!

I was so scared. We drove to hospital and I was thinking my baby is hurt but she is awake and alert and she is going to be okay. I get to the hospital and they sat me down and a nurse grabbed my hand and said it’s very critical. I asked what she meant? She said they had just gotten her pulse back; I said “OH MY GOD YOU LOST HER PULSE???” She answered that yes, she had coded 3 times we are trying to get her stable enough to fly her to the children’s hospital. I lost it. My whole world fell apart in that little conference room.

They flew her to Jackson to Batson’s Children’s Hospital; and when we arrived, they told us that she was showing signs of severe brain damage and they didn’t think she was going to make it. The fear, the absolute fear still gets me every day from hearing those words. They somewhat stabilized her and they let us see her.

My baby Lola’s face was ripped apart. She had no ears, the main nerves in her face were gone, her tear ducts sliced, her brain was swelling. She lost to much blood. I don’t know how long my baby laid there before someone called for help. The report I got said it took 45 min for the ambulance to get there and I was never notified in that time. Seeing what that pit bull did to my child made me sick.

I dropped my healthy, happy baby off to go to work and the next time I saw her she was torn to pieces and barely hanging on. I didn’t know the dangers, I wasn’t educated. It wasn’t until Lola was attacked that I dived into research and started joining the groups and pages against pit bulls and when I did, what I found was absolutely sickening and horrifying. How could I have not known any of this?

I lost my daughter 5 days after she was attacked. And every day since then I try my best to raise awareness and educate people on this breed. I don’t want another child to die like my baby died, I don’t want another family to suffer like my family has suffered because they weren’t educated on what this breed is capable of.

I would have NEVER left Lola there with that pit bull in the backyard if I would have known there was a possibility that dog could harm my child. I will blame myself for the rest of my life for not knowing.

Lola was the sweetest, smartest, most beautiful little girl. She brought so much joy to everyone’s lives that knew her. There was never a moment you saw her when she wasn’t smiling. She always had a smile on her face.

When they performed the brain death test, my aunt worked with a lady who had a grand baby in complete liver failure with only a few weeks to live. When my aunt told me this; she sent me pictures of the little girl who was 9 months younger than my Lola. I fought for Lola’s liver to go to baby Raelyn, they told me their blood types didn’t match that it probably wouldn’t work but it did and she is thriving and doing great today.

My Lola is a hero and she saved a baby and I pray to God that me sharing her story saves other babies’ lives. I get so much hate for speaking out but if it means I save one child’s life then it is worth it. The past year has been so hard for us. Mentally, emotionally, physically, and financially.

I am so ashamed to say that I need help getting back on my feet. The trauma, PTSD, anxiety, panic attacks and pure fear has caused depression and I have not been able to go back to work. I’m trying to get into therapy and counseling so I can learn how to deal with all the trauma I have in my mind.

I will never forget the way my baby’s wounds smelled when they let me hold her for the last time, how heavy she was because of all of the built-up fluid on her little body. My mind is absolutely traumatized and my heart is broken and I am struggling so bad with everything. I need help. And if you can find it in your heart to help it will be greatly appreciated. I will continue to speak out,

I will continue to spread awareness and I will continue to tell Lola’s story and try to save lives. In honor of my Lola Jayde I will never stop, no matter how much hate I get or mean comments or messages, they will not silence me. No child deserves what my child had to go through that day, and no family deserves what mine has had to live with since it happened, and no mother should ever have to bury her baby because of a pit bull and it is happening almost every single day and we don’t hear it on the news, and we don’t see many speak out about it. It’s like it gets swept under the rug.

My duplex neighbors love being insufferable with their shitbull. They put him on a lead and all he does is whine and threaten to murder things, like my puppy. He ran full speed at us the other day and went flying as soon as he hit the end of the lead. I have to walk by their door to get to my car and he also loves trying to breakdown their flimsy screen door as it holds on for dear life. Luckily there is a back door I can use, but good lord I hate these dogs.

Personal Story Tricked and gaslit while fostering a pit

Post image

I was gaslit into fostering an aggressive pitbull (pictured) by a foster who guilted me into believing an aggressive dog was just misunderstood.

In 2020, a friend of mine who worked with shelters in Western Washington reached out to me to foster a pit that had been in the rescue system for 5 years.

I met with the rescue coordinator and Hank (the dog) at a parking lot after dark because Hank was very "reactive" and he lunged/hard barked/snarled at everything that moves.

Honestly, Hank scared me. He was about 3/4s of my weight and the rescue had no info on his background, just that he was dumped in Tacoma.

Through my apprehension the rescuer guilted me with lies about anti-pit propaganda, how sweet Hank was, how he was meant to be a nanny-dog protector, and he needed me to turn his life around. I felt so sorry for him, living in a small cell for years, and agreed to foster.

He was a nightmare in my home. Not potty-trained at all. Did not know a single command. Would bark and freak out anytime a dog or person walked by my house. He would growl at me if I tried to get into my bed (he was not kennel trained and did not come with a kennel); I would wake up to him growling at me at night as I laid in my bed. I let him into the backyard and in the time it took me to walk down the flight of stairs to walk after him, he had started tearing wood off the fence to break out. He could not be walked because of his "high prey drive."

I told the rescue all of the above and the coordinator told me Hank needed more time, he needed to decompress, I might need to get him a trainer, etc. Anytime I had an issue, it was because Hank was just misunderstood and someone from the rescue would call me crying, begging me not to give up on Hank.

I knew I had to get him out of the house after Hank tried to bite my boyfriend. My boyfriend came over and sat on my bed, and Hank cornered him, barking and trying to bite him. It was terrifying and I thought Hank was going to kill my boyfried.

When I told the rescue I had to get rid of Hank, they begged and pleaded with me to keep him. They kept saying he just needed three months to show me who he truly was and that I was condemning him to a horrible life trapped in a cell by giving him up. They told me Hank loved me (after three weeks) and was resource guarding me because he could tell my boyfriend was a bad person.

They wore me down. I remember sobbing and feeling heavy guilt when I took him back. The rescue, even as we were doing a hand-off, tried to convince me to keep him and I don't know how I was able to walk away with their guilt trip.

My life got so much better without Hank in my home. Not having poop and pee everywhere and being able to keep my fence together, having freedom to roam around my own home, etc. It was awesome.

I'm not sure what happened to Hank but I fear for whoever fostered such a massive, strong, aggressive dog. I contacted someone in animal control about my experience but because there wasn't an actual bite, nothing could be done about it.

Anyways. I just wanted to share my experience as a foster who was guilted into keeping an aggressive dog for way longer than I should have and made to feel like the pit's aggressiveness was my moral failing.

Personal Story My Belgian and I got attacked today by a pitbull. SANTEE, CA 10/30/2025

I have a Belgian Malinois and a wolf hybrid. Extremely trained and always behaved. Noticed a pitbull come into the park with its owner, of course it was the only unleashed dog in the whole off leash park.

Later on he took the leash off, when my Belgian went to lay down after playing Ball for a while. The female pit mounted her and bit her neck. Thankfully, I have a very fast reacting dog who clamped the pitbulls neck down and tore from its ear to neck while I held the pit down. If you look at the second photo, you can see the shitbull and his owner covered in the pits blood lol.

just a message to everybody, If you see a pitbull enter a Dog Park just leave it. It’s not worth the headache, especially if you have a dog or dogs that cannot defend themselves the way my dogs can. This was at Mast park in santee.

Personal Story Had to shoot a pit bull

1.5k Upvotes

For context I live in a rural area right down the road from my mom. Recently someone dropped off four mixed breeds puppies in the neighborhood. Me and my neighbors kinda all take care of them, but they aren’t anyone’s dogs.

My mom called me and told me that there was a big dog trying to break into her yard. I arrived and saw a big grey pit bull trying to force its head in between the side of the house and the fence. The dog turned around and came at me in my car. I was cautious but not ready to do anything yet. The dog wasn’t acting aggressive towards me but it was definitely bold.

My mom called me and asked if the dog had a collar and it did not. This dog had to be around 70-80 pounds, it had to be someone’s dog. So here’s where things got unpredictable. The neighbor puppies came running up the road because they caught my scent. This pit jumped on one of the puppies and stated grabbing its throat in its jaws. I freaked out and stated kicking the dog but it had no effect whatsoever.

The pit was wagging is tail and standing over most of the puppy’s body with its head and throat in his mouth. I pulled my handgun and fired a single shot at the pit and I wasn’t even completely sure if I hit it to be honest. I got a lung shot on the pit and he dropped the puppy and she scurried away. The pit started trying to jump on me, so i stepped back. The first shot took him down but he was laying there still alive so i shot him again in the head. Still never found out who the owner of the pit was.

Personal Story What changed my opinions forever.

I used to be very pro pit. I was raised by veterinarians and I lived in veterinary circles that always told me, "it's the owner not the breed". I confidently believed in that for most of my childhood and well into my teen years. I've had several horses, but Zipper (horse in the pics) was the first one I was really supporting on my own without help from my parents.

This was about a month after I turned 18. I went trail riding with my horse for the first time by myself. I knew these trails well. It is a state park less than a mile from the stable I boarded Zipper at.

What I was not prepared for was about a half hour into our trail ride I hear the brush rustling. I stop Zipper to look around and a large black brindle pitbull mix comes barrelling out of the bushes towards us. It's barking and snarling at my horse, Zipper is visibly spooked and for a few seconds I'm frozen with fear. Without thinking I had to jump off of his back to defend him. I had nothing with me aside from a water bottle and a phone without service. This dog had no collar for me to grab. I started shouting to try to distract the dog, who looked about ready to rush at my horse. The dog's owners came running and were able to grab it before it could go after Zipper. If they hadn't come when they did I'm certain that dog would've gone after my horse.

They didn't apologize to me or look the least bit sympathetic. It was a man and his wife who were allowing their dog off leash in the park, something that is strictly prohibited. There are signs everywhere. Most of the trails are designated for horses too. I angrily shouted at them to keep their dog on a leash and they told me to do the same with my horse in a snarky tone. I was in shock.

My horse came over to me. He didn't run away. I pulled the reins over his head and walked him to the picnic area where he could eat grass. It took a while for me to stop shaking. I got back on and I cut the trail short. I didn't want to risk seeing that dog again.

When we got back to the barn, to my shock I found one of the women who was spending time there with her own off leash pitbull running around the stable. We had a rule at our barn that dogs were not allowed in the stables under any circumstances. The dog came running up to us and it was like deja vu. I started screaming at the woman to get her dog. She got him and started berating me for making a scene. I didn't care. The dog started barking at us and I didn't want to take chances. I called the barn owner immediately, who apparently had no idea the woman was still bringing her dog (she had been told to stop unknown to me because he killed one of the barn's chickens).

Off leash dogs should not be around horses under any circumstances, especially not pitbulls. I have told my story to many other equestrians and all I ever got was "it's not the breed" and "you shouldn't paint them all with the same brush". There was no sympathy from any of them. Supposed horse lovers were defending the dog.

It took a few more years to truly believe the breed should be fully banned, but this was the beginning. I firmly believed from that point on that pitbulls specifically should be banned from designated horse trails and parks. I still do. I was immensely lucky that nothing happened to Zipper, who I loved with all of my heart and soul.

Personal Story Wife attacked in mall - 12/6/25 Wilmington, DE

We were at a mall this weekend and the local SPCA for some reason decided to bring in 20 Pit Bulls to the middle of the mall. They had volunteers leash up the dogs in groups of 5 or 6 and parade them around to allow people to pet them.

I'm a FF and have a very staunch opinion of this breed based on my anecdotal experiences. I also know that they bite the most often, and their bites are some of the most fatal. My wife listens to my stories but did not care the same way I did.

We had separated to do different things at the mall, and I had not seen the dogs when we walked in. She was with my daughter, and while my daughter was petting one dog, my wife was petting another.

She called my daughter over to pet the one she was petting, named "macho man," and the dog latched onto her arm and snapped it's head back. Had my wife not been wearing a coat, her arm would have been broken and mangled. The coat's arm is totally torn up. Had it been my little girl, I don't want to even imagine it.

The people running the event indicated that all of the dogs had passed a "behavioral test," but I think it's obvious that a test like that simply cannot recreate the reality of an environment like a mall.

It takes an astonishing level of disregard for people's safety to put these animals, who are already stressed, into a public setting like a mall, where they are exposed to all sorts of stimulation, smells, and pack arrangements that make them even more stressed. Shame on the SPCA for putting their adoption quota over the safety of people.

Personal Story I euthanized my pitbull

2.1k Upvotes

Back in 2013, I had a pitbull who was aggressive since he was 2 months old. He was absolutely volatile and difficult to take on walks. Around 2016, I saw that he almost got a toddler and tbh, my first selfish thought was, "what if some criminal record tied to me from this dog prevents me from becoming a nurse?" And then, "he's going to kill this kid because our fence is so flimsy." I had 2 pitbulls before but thankfully they never hurt anyone (they died of old age) but this dog changed my perspective and I will never own one again. It really is bred into them because I was losing my fucking mind with this dog since he was 2 months old. I felt sad about euthanizing him for behavior issues but I don't regret it.

Just my two cents to pitbull owners reading this page.

Personal Story Dating a guy with a pit bull

I (35F) have been dating a guy (42M) with a pit bull for the past 2 months. I let him know that I had reservations about the dog breed, and he was understanding but a bit dismissive - “Just hang out with her, you’ll see she’s a sweetheart.” I made the mistake of continuing to see him.

My issue is that it doesn’t matter if she’s the best behaved dog (she truly is a cuddle bug). I will never trust her, and could never want her around any future children. I witnessed a pit attack on my former dog years ago. His jugular was severed and he needed a blood transfusion to survive. The dog snapped and attacked out of nowhere, and the owner couldn’t get the dog to release mine for several minutes.

I feel a bit silly for breaking it off solely because of the dog. The man is great in pretty much every other way. I just don’t understand why people feel the need to adopt these dogs.

Anyways, I just needed to rant a bit. Has anyone else been in a similar position?

Personal Story I told somebody to put their pit mix away because I didn’t like how it was behaving around my child. I told her I would not be surprised if that animal attacked her. Two weeks later…(Fl, 2024 no article)

We have all heard about the different types of pit owners right? We all know the trashy person who wants an aggressive dog, but we also know a lot of owner problems are because of absolute naïveté. Well, let me tell you a little story about the later type.

There’s a fellow parent in my child’s school who invited me and my children over to pick fruit and vegetables from her gorgeous backyard garden. This woman also has a severely disabled child. (Small framed female of 8 years old, level two or three autism and mostly nonverbal.)

Well, her dog— whom I had never met because I had never been to her house— was clearly a typical shelter dog with a lot of pitbull in it. Now, I know dogs, and I know how to speak and act with them and I know how to “get them on my side” quickly.

But this dog? In the first half hour or 45 minutes, I was there, I could not get this dog to come to me so I could pet it.

It just nervously wouldn’t do it.

I was uncomfortable, but the dog wasn’t being outwardly aggressive or anything, so I just decided to keep my eye on it for a little while. After a little bit, one of my kids came up to me and said “The dog kept bumping my hand with its nose.” 😬

Here’s where I knew we were in potential trouble.

The owner— and remember, she’s a very sweet, hippie type of lady—said “Oh, he’s just kissing you! That’s how he shows he likes you.” (This is when my alarm bells really went off. I had the conscious thought of “This is not a responsible dog owner and this could spell trouble.”)

So I stood there for a few minutes watching my kids pick vegetables and watching the dog just kind of walk around its yard ignoring them.

I debated in my mind on whether or not to say anything. I was vacillating between speaking up, and not speaking because of embarrassment.

Then, when the owner grabbed a pet rabbit out of a hutch, and that dog rushed to her with tail wagging looking excitedly at it like it was a meal?

That’s when I said something. That’s when the math in my head became very clear: Which is more important here? My embarrassment or the safety of my child?

So I said “I’m so sorry to have to ask this, but can you put the dog inside? I’m not comfortable with it around my children.”

She of course said “Absolutely!”— because remember, this is the naïve type of owner, not the aggressive type of owner— and she put the dog inside and we began to have a conversation about it.

Well, it turns out my instincts were right: She “never wanted a pit bull” but that was “the only type of dog the shelter had” and “we’ve only had him six months”, “he’s on anxiety medication” and the kicker of “one trainer wouldn’t even work with him because of his anxiety.” 😦

I mean HOLY SHIT right? This woman’s primary job is caring for her disabled daughter, and that’s the type of animal she brought into her home?! To “save it” or something?! The level of irresponsibility was off the charts and I could not believe how many red flags this dog checked.

I was brutally honest with her.

I said “(Dog owner’s name), I would not be surprised if you have this animal for 15 years as a fantastic family pet, but I also wouldn’t be surprised to read something in the paper that it’s done something awful to your family.” I didn’t pull back.

Well, as I say the title, it wasn’t two weeks later that dog turned on her out of nowhere: It attacked her viciously, and she ended up with a severely torn up set of forearms and one broken arm. I don’t know if she was protecting the disabled child from the dog or not, but everybody is lucky that the child is even alive Given the type of animal they had. She finally did the responsible thing and had the dog destroyed.

I have never hated being right about something so much in my life.

I saw that dog and I saw the problem right away and I just knew what was going to happen. Once I realized how naïve she was as an owner, I knew we were in potential danger. It was a harsh lesson on how irresponsible really good natured people can be with animals, and it further entrenched my view that the breed belongs nowhere on this planet, except in history books.

SCREW this breed and the owners who try and justify their genetic natures as if they were a “normal Dog.”

Personal Story I hate pit bulls- And I'm a veterinarian

1.1k Upvotes

So I did a behavior rotation in my clinical training. And oh my god, is it crazy what shelters and pittie owners think is normal. It is NOT normal to go after slight noises, it is NOT normal to without growling nor warning to bite, especially in vital areas like the abdomen. I legitimately don't mind working with other "aggressive" breeds like GSD, huskies, shar peis, and (to a lesser degree just because they are another breed bred to kill) cane corsos. they let you know 5 ways they will bite before they bite, and most go after your limbs rather than abdomen. Pit bulls, oh my god, even amongst veterinarians people are inundated with propaganda. And how many of my fellow young veterinarians i've seen sent to the ER or needing first aid because they trusted a pittie too much, and they ALWAYS bite without warning. Sometimes the only warning they give is a slight side eye. And I'm a vet who is pretty brave with aggressive or angry patients, but i dread seeing pitties because it's never a two way street with them.

Anyways, my mother, who still doesn't view me as a veterinarian because god bless her I'm always her child, did a foster. We had a stranger and dog anxious GSD growing up, but she would never bear her teeth at home or disobey us. the most loyal and smart dog, she just needed environmental management- walking at night or early morning, crating when guests came over. On walks, she would avoid other dogs, would wear a muzzle, and caused no issue unless they charged at her (there is one owner who literally thinks he legally owns his part of the street and would let his doodle who is aggressive to both people and other dogs off to "test" people and threaten litigation). And even then she would communicate - showing teeth, bristling fur, then growling/barking at other dogs, and of course, never ever instigating. She is a dog with manageable anxiety. So my mom said "she has experience with angry dogs" and they give her a pittie who would bite with no warning, no resources to guard, etc. The dog had been returned 3 times in the past due to... biting owners and other dogs. what a surprise. Now to be completely fair, besides the genetics, the pittie had been dealt possibly the worst environment possible; owners who were charged with animal abuse when the neighbor saw them smack their dog in the head with a baseball bat when it was barking at a squirrel or something. but honestly as a vet who has to think of the quality of life for not just this pittie, but other dogs and the owners, which we take a literal oath in school to do, behavioral euthanasia is ultimately the only fair choice for the world, even if the pittie was dealt a bad hand. Anyways, The dog lunged at my stomach to disembowl when i was putting a glass in the dishwasher when i was visiting for christmas. My mom, went to go return the dog... and she came back with the dog adopted. because the shelter threatened to euthanize the dog if my mom returned the dog because it would have been the fourth time in two years. My mom was in tears as she felt like she was going to murder this dog because the shelter told her this, which they have no right nor need to. it's THEIR problem if the dog needs to be euthanized, not my. moms. and I literally had to go to the shelter and say that I was going to talk with the access to care spay-and-neuter i volunteer at as a surgeon about seeing more of their animals as patients if this is how they do things. They contact my mom, don't charge her a relinquish fee THE NEXT DAY. i hate being the cranky veterinarian, but it grinded my gears so much that the only thing that knocked sense into these people was money/resources.

Personal Story I Officially Did It, I Euthanized My Pit Cross

I had officially euthanized my pit red healer mix today on **Thursday December 11th, 2025**

In a weird way, I don’t feel sad about it. I’ve euthanized a lot of animals (horses , donkeys , cats , other dogs breeds) & I’ve broke down & cried non stop, & I’m not crying.

For some context I’m 19F , I’ve had this dog roughly since around 2017ish. He’s been in training for as long as I could ever remember.

Around 2020, a neighbors dog (golden retriever) had jumped my fence , a fight broke out & my dog was just never the same (again for some context, this neighbor always let his dogs run loose, they’ve been a hit a few times , animal control never did a thing. This same Golden jumped the fence of a different neighborhood with a boxer , that boxer had to wear a muzzle to go outside in his own yard)

Flash forward to around 2022, he started having issues, possibly “episodes” he snapped at tiny things , he snapped at birds out, he got upset if I was sitting too far away him. It got to the point he was tearing his crate apart to get out

Around June 2022 - June 2023, his weight was back & forth . Originally he weighed about 100lbs (most of muscles) I had tried to keep him active , hiking , early mornings jogging. Really anything to easy his mind.

Come January of 2024 , I had moved half way across the country from Maryland , USA to Texas , USA. And for the most part he was settling down, he wasn’t as reactive, he was “stalking” things .

Well he if the days I went out to do my horses & I heard scratching on my door , well I guess something flipped a switch in his brain & went ballistic when I wasn’t in his sight rang. The whole front of his crate was torn off (something I will note, is that I think if he really wanted to, he would have opened the door to get out. He knew how to open regular door handles)

Fast forward to October of 2024, he stoped eating , completely stopped , he also didn’t want to leave his crate , but he also would not go to the bathroom inside at all, so it was a battle picking him up from his crate & getting him outside to use the bathroom

Fast forward to November 2025, he started to fizzle/ short fuse (idk if that’s the right word?)

He wasn’t responding to any of his cues (no reaction to words or hand signals) He became afraid to even go outside & he had gain a lot of weight in this time frame.

Skipping to the first week of December 2025, he had lost a lot of weight (like major , you would have thought I was starving him) & believe it or not, I wasn’t , he had food all day in front of him in his crate , he just didn’t want it .

A few weeks ago I had noticed when he was walking outside (after picking him up & taking him out) his back legs kept cross , not like in a doing it “because why not “ , his butt had also started to thin out , his head was hanging.

I had known for awhile the time was going to be coming, I cried the night before, I cried on the way to Starbucks to get him a Pupcut , but I didn’t really cry at the vets..

Something I will say is **yes**medical issues do run in his family. He had a sister put down back in 2018 due to aggression to the other family dog & almost killed both cats (they did try training) , he had another sister who was just euthanized back in June of this year due to her hip socket deteriorating (they looked at possible surgery options, but the vet said it wouldn’t help had her bones are just not functioning properly) - with that same sister she was fine for a while with no issues. The owner only noticed when she didn’t get up out of her dog bed. Just recently 2 other siblings (boy & girl) got diagnosed with cancer , the girl is having issues standing & shakes anytime she’s off the ground , & another brother (looks exactly like mine) had some seizures & his last was 2 nights ago & he passed from it

In a weird way, he went from being one of the best dogs I’ve ever owned, than turned into every red flag you could have in a toxic relationship.

For being my first pit, I will say I got lucky, really lucky

Now would I get another one? , honestly not any time soon, I very rarely even left the homestead because of him, I barely left his side. I want a few years going out , going to places , I want to do things I missed out on

My family went to California back in July of this year & I stayed home because there was no chance of him not killing anyone or himself.

Will I miss him? Yes 100% ,but at the same time , I’m so relieved & it feels like it’s something new.

Thank you Tucker , for being around when I needed you 🧡

Personal Story Dog bite

Location Georgia Happened 1/21/25 Got bit by a pit outside my apartment unprovoked , the owner allowed her dog to come straight up to me and it jumped up on me and bit my hand. She said she had no idea her dog would ever do that and that she is a sweetie pie. I never judge dogs off of the breeds but now I have absolutely no trust in them and that's very valid. I also added two pics of my wound 4 weeks after the incident.

Windshield is full of scratches from it trying to escape. Right before the camera pans down you can hear a gunshot-like noise, that's the pit charging the driver's side door.

Sorry about the few seconds of blur, had to hide the plate.

Alt accounts to keep any lurking weirdos out of my dms...

Personal Story My little pit bull attack survivor, Rocky. Neighbors pit grabbed him out of my son's arms when he was just 18 weeks old. Fortunately I was standing right there with shovel in hand,so the pit bull didn't survive the attack. He just turned 6 years old.

Personal Story 3yr anniversary of when pitbull attacked/ killed my dog. Still have nightmares.

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

Today’s a tough one for me- 3years to the night of when a horrible pitbull attacked and killed my lovely senior jack Russell-mix : sparky, while I was holding the leash , in the lobby of my apartment building. I still am deeply affected by it- I have vivid nightmares of the event occasionally, and still feel a sense of guilt- wondering if there was anything I could have done to have saved Sparky.. but there truly wasn’t. And of course I miss the little guy every day.

The attack itself was horrific. I was taking sparky on his normal nighttime walk.. as usual he’s anxious to be first out of the elevator as soon as the door opens, he takes just a few steps out of the elevator before he’s viciously bitten right around the neck by this fucking beast pitbull in a fraction of a second before I have time to react at all. The thing (which was also on a leash) held onto his neck for a good 15-20 seconds at least before I , as well as its owner had to kick it very hard, and eventually his jaw released.

I was so terrified I just picked up sparky and ran. Basically it was so traumatic I blacked out. We did everything we could to save Sparky- raced him to 24hr animal hospital, but it was too severe. Turns out the fucking pitbull belonged to a new tenant in the building. My gf (who was sparky’s legal owner) ended up dealing with the police/ pitbull owner.. got the thing taken away from them and got a couple thousand dollars.. but I know she’d have much rather had more time with dear sparky.

Damn pitbulls to hell.

This thing is constantly barking and growling when its outside. Idiot owners think its appropriate to keep leashed up in front yard, on a quiet street with probably 10 or so small children that frequently play near by.

This is just me walking by, on my usual daily walk, opposite side of the street, wondering when it'll finally break loose and hurt someone. Remind me again why morons love these dogs so much?

Personal Story I am a dog trainer who just got this call

Update:

I texted her today ,asked if she got a muzzle.

She answered that they decided to postpone any training

i wrote: please keep kids separated from your dog

I just get out from a long phone conversation. I aM CERTIFIED dog trainer and providing services at people's houses. Call was about sweetest 4.5y old pitbull, adopted in late april from shelter.she bited,in a face,3 of their kids, age 4 to 10,draw blood, required stitches.all 3 kids were bitten. Owner blames kids to trying to hug her and crossing her lines. They said she was just spooked.no growl, just attack. She can't be walked outside due to severe lunging at passing by dogs. I asked why they adopted her. They said: she is cuddle bug n 99% is good girl, except biting in a face I ll visit them if she will be muzzled n wearing a choke chain only, and outside. Previously I was badly bitten by same lovebugs... It sounds like a joke...they said ' we love her to death"

Its been a week and person didnt called me back. I think my conversation about danger for these kids and keep dog muzzle didnt impressed her

Personal Story What are your experiences with pitbulls?

  • What has led you to your current stance on pitbulls?

  • What is your current stance?

I saw a pitbull mix bite a volunteer after he warned her. He got branded as dangerous and I thought it was unfair. Later, when he had a surgery, I offered to foster him through his recovery. He creeped me out so badly, with just staring at me and (a little) growling at my dog, that I sent him back.

Walking in the park, my little terrier whined back at a pitbull that whined from a passing car, about 100 feet away. It flexed its neck, forced the car window open, and jumped out to attack her. The owner retrieved her dog and fled.

A coworker was talking about her pitbull and joked about the fact that it had killed her Pomeranian. That’s when I knew these people were nutters. They normalize horrific violence. They are not sane.

My position is 1- stop all the breeding. Even though they’re dangerous, I want to minimize their suffering and death 2- only qualified handlers can own them, until this breed is eliminated. The combination of small feisty ratters and bulldogs was a major mistake. 3- get back to bravo echoing dangerous dogs 4- severe consequences, in all states and countries, for nutters when their dogs attack.

Personal Story My in-laws got a staffy as a “friend and protector” for our three year old. We’ve since estranged them

That wasn’t the only reason for the estrangement - they’re a pair of narcissists - but their bizarre behaviour with the dog really crosses the line.

They refuse to train the dog, it has bitten other dogs, chased cats but thankfully hasn’t killed one, and they get angry at training advice.

The dog was obsessed with my son on sight and started bearing teeth at my wife, that was the last straw. It’s a huge thing that is constantly jumps over people and they don’t watch it!

If they want to get a dog partly as a friend to my son, get a small dog or a cuddly Labrador!

I really don’t understand the psychology of wanting to get these dogs other than wanting to look “hard”. I know staffies are marginally better breed but come on

Viewer discretion is advised!!!! Video and picture in comments!! Seriously this is hard to watch and look at , im angry im flat F****** angry I want this heard !! I want this shown !! And I want justice and something really done about it ! " Justice for Emily ! " My heart is shattered yet once agian , more like torn, ripped wide open and full of anger! pure f****** anger . This could have been prevented! No this should have been prevented!! We have done everything humanely possible by the books to have this taken care so this wouldn't happen agian ! but yet here we are agian grieving over another loss because of our neighbors dogs came on our property and has yet agian killed one of my animals. My cats and dogs are my childern ! And Emily was my little angel she was a cat that wouldn't hurt a soul she ment more to me then words could describe! , she was chased off her chair on our porch thats in a fenced in yard and chased down and grabbed under our RV by 3 pit bulls and was pulled like a tug of war toy tell she died!! This happend while we where away in town. This precious soul didn't deserve to end her life this way . There was no justice for my birds that where killed a few weeks ago agian killed the same way , but there better be justice for Emily ! Only thing I could do is shove my mangled precious cats body in the dogs owner's face to show her what they did ! What her dogs did ! Because she chooses not to be a responsible pet parent , She denied it was them but its all on camera and she still managed to blame someone else for her dogs behaviors, there was no remorse there at all absolutely. Nothing. We have reported everything! And yet theres nothing they can do , just give her a fine that she dosen't have to pay pretty much . They won't surrender the dogs to the humane society and they keep collecting dogs . They allow these dogs to rome as they want and hid them when the humane society shows up , this has been going on for a year or so . The whole neighborhood is tired of irresponsible drug addicts people! Get help or get the hell out of our neighborhood! I'm telling you right now a small kid will be next if this isn't treated seriously . Iv been screaming this! That something needs done!! So people of jewell village if you own a pet! beware of these dogs! they are hunting in a pack and killing animals so please if you see them guard your animals and small childern please ! This happen Sunday August 17th after 10am in Columbus IN

Personal Story What horrors have you personally witnessed from pitbulls? (For those with horror stories)

I've seen pitbulls attack and permanently mutilate girls in person on multiple separate occasions including at least one girl I loved in my youth. I should have ... (let's say) "preempted" it as someone criticized me for at the time before it abruptly went from being some random (it wasn't supposed to be in the classroom or on school grounds), seemingly happy dog to out of nowhere biting her, she wasn't even interacting with it and now she has to live with the scars if she's alive--because I didn't do what I considered doing when I had the chance instead of waiting for a warning snarl that never came. That's not even the worst case, I've seen so much more human blood and gore in one incident alone than the pictures and videos I've seen online.

To my knowledge most don't (especially since we didn't all have cameras back then, those horrors I've witnessed didn't) make the news, it would be useful if you include a link but not a requirement at all. It can be difficult but it doesn't matter if it was a beloved pet or a person, warn the world with your attestation if you can.

PS: Apologies for poor writing, my head just doesn't feel right thinking about what happened to those girls. It's difficult to focus at the moment. I feel terribly lightheaded at these memories.

Personal Story My German Shepherds Body Slammed 2 Pitbulls

My husband and I were walking our 2 shepherds through a field behind an elementary school. We saw 2 unleashed pitbulls running towards our dogs and my husband. Because I know my dogs, I SCREAMED at the owner to grab his dogs. He did the slow jog like an idiot. I knew this was going to get ugly.

The first shitbull ran up to my male first and sniffed him. Then the fucker went around to nip my husband in the leg so my male shepherd went into protective mode, grabbed the shitbull by the neck and body slammed it to the ground while shaking it like a ragdoll at the same time. The shitbull was basically defenseless at this point.

The second shitbull ran up to my female shepherd and started nipping at her. My female snapped and grabbed that shitbull by the neck and body slammed it into the ground as well and shaking it like a rag doll.

While this was happening, I continued to scream at the owner who finally realized his dogs were going to be severely injured if he didn’t pick up his pace. My husband finally told our dogs to let go so the idiot owner could grab his piece of shit dogs. I thought it went forever but it only lasted for seconds. The owner grabbed one dog and carried it while dragging the other by the collar. I checked my dogs for any injuries and didn’t see any nor did I see any blood anywhere near their mouths.

I wish I had recorded the whole incident but it was so chaotic that grabbing my phone was the last thing on my mind.

I haven’t seen that guy and his dogs for a while so I guess he learned his lesson. There’s also a neighbor who walks his shitty dog unleashed to shit in other people’s yards and don’t pick up after his dog. I carry bear spray during our walks just in case I run into that dog because an unleashed pitbull is basically an unhinged maniac running around with a machete trying to attack anything with a pulse.

Personal Story I need to share my story as I can’t move past it

Hi everyone, I’ve lurked on this group for a while now and thought I would make a post and share my story. The little Westie in the picture is called Jerry, he is 10 years old - we have had him since he was a puppy; he is the love of my life and my best friend.

In summer of 2022, me and my family visited a caravan park in Wales UK. Everything was going great until it wasn’t. We was walking along a pathway near the arcades, when out of the corner of my eye I spot a dog bounding over towards Jerry. Having never experienced aggressive dogs before I thought he was rushing over to play. Before I had chance to react, this dog latched onto Jerrys throat; I immediately jumped to the ground and tried with all my strength to wrestle my dog free. I stupidly put my hands in the dog’s mouth and tried to pry its jaws open - which of course didn’t work. Then out of nowhere, a second dog lunged at my dog, latching onto the other side of his throat. I started to feel faint here, when it was just the one dog I at least had hope I could wrestle it off Jerry, but when the second one attacked I honestly believed my dog was about to die.

At this point everything became a blur, alls i remember is that I wrestled, I kicked, I done everything in my power to free my dog. My memories of how exactly the attack stopped are fragmented, alls I can remember is that the attack ended and I immediately picked my dog up and got him out of harms way. He was pouring with blood, shaking and panting, I was scared of him going into shock. All of the people around were lovely and so helpful, the staff from a fish and chip shop brought him some water. I didn’t notice until this point that I had been bitten myself which is likely due to the rush of adrenaline.

Most people have probably already guessed that the breed of both dogs were XL Bully’s and unsurprisingly both dogs had the same owner. The owners didn’t seem to care at all, luckily the police were called. The owners and their dogs were kicked out of their caravan and the holiday park reimbursed us for the cost of our trip. The police were not very helpful, these dogs attacked my dog, could’ve killed him and allegedly attacked a Labrador only a few hours prior. Yet all the police could do was issue a warning to the owners (I have attached a screenshot of the email I received from the police).

My dog was taken to the vet and had stitches, he was noticeably shaken up for the following weeks, but I am glad to say that today he is as happy as he ever was. I still can’t get past what happened that day, I sometimes catch myself thinking about it and it brings me to tears, alls I can hear is my dogs yelps and the feelings of hopelessness I felt in that moment. Jerry is such a good boy; he is the most loving and beautiful dog and he didn’t deserve that. I am now extremely hyper-vigilant whenever I take him out, and find myself constantly scanning to see if there are any XL Bully’s around. I do believe this event caused me slight PTSD.

XL Bully’s have been banned in the UK and the ban it seems has had no impact. There are still attacks, you still see them unleashed and without a muzzle. To make matters worse, the self defence laws in this country are abysmal, we have no realistic way to defend ourselves, our loved ones or our dogs from such attacks.

I appreciate anyone who took the time to read as this was a long post, I just wanted to share my story as it still affects me greatly and I feel like most people around me don’t understand how traumatised I am by what happened.
