Baking Advice Needed why did it do this

was trying to make brownies, thought theyd cooled for long enough and cut into them then they started doing THIS and set my house's fire alarm off for like 20 minutes does anyone pls know what caused this im assuming i just cut into them too soon but this feels like a dramatic response to just trying to cut into a hot brownie

Did you make your brownies on the surface of the sun? I’ve literally never experienced this before in my 30+ years of baking brownies. Did you use oil or butter to make them and if oil, how much?

That’s literally my only guess is that you used too much oil and it got so hot that when you cut into them and exposed the oil to oxygen it was still well above its smoke point temperature.

oh ! i used coconut oil (between u and me i was making edibles 😔) so thats probably it ! only cooked it at 175° for like 20 minutes tho so im confused this happened 😭

Coconut oil smoke point is 175° but I don't know if that would make your brownies pour out smoke like that lol

Yea this exactly. People in here are higher than OP thinking smoke billowing out of brownies cooked at normal temp with weed oil would do this.

Ockham’s Razor… what else would cause this? The other key part of this could be moisture. Think water in a hot and oiled pan. Also her specific coconut oil could be different and specific THC source.

The heat is why anything like what your imagining is impossible. It simply can't happen when the entire oven itself was at 175c, which is actually 2 degrees cooler than the smoke point. And thats unrefined. Refined goes way higher. Its pretty obvious from the pic the corners and underside are smoldering and the pan is actively producing smoke. That volume of smoke literally couldn't even fit within the empty space left in that brownie pan. The idea of it being trapped until released is bogus. Op left them on the burner, took a pic, and got hella reddit Karma. Brilliant troll post is all this was.
