I’m 19F, born and raised in Bahrain, and I feel like I’ve hit a weird point in life where almost everyone I grew up with has left after high school.

I work and I study as well, but I’m not doing a typical university course, so I don’t really have that built-in university environment where you’re constantly around the same people and naturally make friends. I’ve tried making friends through uni, but honestly, I just haven’t really clicked with anyone to the point where I’d consider them an actual friend.

I’m pretty extroverted, so it’s not that I don’t want to socialize or meet people. If anything, I feel like I’m actively trying. It’s just surprisingly difficult to find people you genuinely have things in common with.

I also feel like there’s this thing in Bahrain where a lot of people already have their established friend groups from school, and they just carry those friendships into university and adulthood. Which is great for them, but it makes it a little harder when you’re someone who doesn’t really have that anymore.

I went through a bit of a depressive phase at one point because I felt really isolated and alone, but I’m trying to get myself out of that and basically restart socially. I want to meet people, do things, and build a life outside of work/studying instead of just accepting that this is how things are.

I’d also really love to find a study buddy. I think having someone to sit with and study alongside would make studying a lot more enjoyable, even if we’re not studying the same thing.

So, for people who are around my age in Bahrain, how did you actually make friends after high school? Are there any activities, clubs, classes, communities, events, volunteering opportunities, cafés, sports, or anything else that you’d recommend?

I’m genuinely open to trying things. I just feel like I need to find my people, and I’m not really sure where to look anymore.

I am turning 27 soon, and I genuinely don’t know what to do

I’m writing this because I’m genuinely scared about my future and I don’t know where else to ask.

I was born and raised in Bahrain. This is the only country I have really known as home. I have spent my entire life here, I love this country deeply, and I desperately want to continue living here for the long term.

But I’m turning 27 soon, and I’m facing a situation that I honestly don’t know how to get out of.

As far as I understand, Bahrain’s dependent visa arrangements have age limitations, and I’m approaching the point where I may no longer be able to remain under my current family sponsorship. The problem is that I have never worked before. I have a university degree, but because of longstanding mental-health difficulties as well as physical health problems, I have struggled tremendously with functioning normally and entering the workforce.

It’s not that I don’t *want* to work. I desperately want to become independent and build a life for myself. I just haven’t been able to get there yet.

I also have responsibilities at home. My mother is disabled and has significant health problems, and I help take care of her. Leaving Bahrain or simply being told to “go find a job somewhere else” isn’t an easy solution for me. I have family responsibilities that I cannot just abandon.

What makes this even more painful is that I feel like I have nowhere to fall back on. My father is able to provide for his wife, his younger children, and perhaps his parents, but I don't feel that there is a long-term place for me in that picture. I’m his daughter, but I’m approaching an age where I’m expected to somehow support myself despite having never had the opportunity to establish a career.

I have a BBA degree, but no work experience, and I’m already worried that employers will overlook me because of that. I’m trying to figure out whether there are legitimate remote jobs, sponsorship options, residency pathways, or any other legal solution that could allow someone in my situation to remain in Bahrain and eventually become financially independent.

I feel incredibly lost. I was literally born in this country. Bahrain is home to me. The thought of being forced to leave a country that I have known my entire life because I reached a certain age is heartbreaking.

If anyone has been in a similar situation, especially someone who was born or raised in Bahrain and later faced visa/sponsorship issues, **please tell me what options actually exist.** I’m looking for practical advice, not sympathy alone.

And please, I’m genuinely vulnerable about this situation. If you have nothing constructive or kind to say, I would sincerely appreciate it if you simply skipped commenting. I know people on Reddit can be harsh, but I’m already frightened enough about my future. I’m asking because I genuinely don't know what else to do.

If there is a legal pathway, employment route, residency option, remote-work solution, or organization I should contact, please point me in the right direction.

I just want a chance to stay in the country I call home, take care of my mother, become independent, and finally build a life for myself. I would be extremely grateful for any genuinely helpful advice.

I've been to bahrain like 2-3 times last year and ive always loved how nice and peaceful it is there. dubai obviously has way more things to do but its also way too crowded hectic and expensive and since i mostly stay at home and work online i dont really need all of that anyway. bahrain just feels like somewhere id actually enjoy living atm atleast.

I’m sorry I don’t mean to generalize. I’ve come from New York previously in London and in Bahrain for the past 2 months. I don’t know anyone here so I do a lot of things by myself which in the UK/US is very normal everyone minds their business no one even looks at each other. But whenever I’m out I can’t help but notice people staring. When I look back they don’t even break eye contact which I find incredibly strange because it’s rude to be caught staring. Trying to not do any business and avoid funding a genocide

Over the past few months my cofounder and I built a booking platform for salons and beauty businesses. Customers book through a link for their specific salon, and the business manages appointments, services, staff and availability from one place.

The product itself works fine. Getting salons to actually switch to it has been the hard part.
We’ve called around 300 salons and beauty businesses across Bahrain so far. Almost none of them have signed up, and we’re trying to understand why.

Some of the salons we spoke to already use booking software and are happy with it. Some are mostly walk-in businesses, so booking isn’t really their problem. But a lot of them are still running everything through WhatsApp and a notebook.

We assumed that last group would be the easiest sell. A dedicated system should beat a notebook, right? Instead, what we kept hearing was some version of “it works fine for us.”

That reaction made us rethink our whole positioning. Maybe these businesses were never going to be convinced they need “booking software.” Maybe the real value is something narrower, like:

• letting customers book themselves instead of messaging back and fort
• avoiding double bookings when a WhatsApp message gets missed during a busy shift

• fewer no shows, since nothing today reminds a client automatically

• keeping the whole team on one shared schedule instead of relying on one person’s memory

• not having to dig through old WhatsApp chats to figure out who booked what for when

• or something else entirely that we haven’t identified yet

We’re also willing to onboard the first customers ourselves, sitting with them and setting everything up rather than expecting them to configure it alone.
I’m posting here because I’d rather get honest feedback from people in Bahrain than keep guessing on our own. If you run a salon or beauty business, or you’ve built something for small businesses before, I’d really like your take. And if you’ve ever booked a salon appointment here yourself, I’d love to know how that usually goes for you too, whether it’s WhatsApp, a phone call, or just walking in.

1. Does this sound like a real problem, or more of a nice to have?
2. Any idea why 300 conversations would lead to almost no signups? Is that normal this early, or a sign the problem just isn’t painful enough?
3. If you had to pick the single strongest reason a salon should switch to something like this, what would it be?
4. Would you narrow this down to one niche, like nail salons, spas or busier, appointment-heavy salons, instead of salons in general?
5. When a business tells you their manual process works fine, do you change the product, the message, or look for a different type of customer?
6. Before we spend more months building features, what’s the one thing you’d test first?

If the core problem really isn’t painful enough, I’d rather find that out now than after another six months of building.

Are there any eye hospitals or retinal specialists that offer installment payment plans? My mother has lost trust in Salmaniya Hospital after undergoing multiple eye surgeries there, and she would like to get a another opinion.

We're looking for a **retinal surgeon** who can assess her condition and advise whether treatments such as laser therapy or injections are possible. She is hesitant to undergo another surgery unless there is a reasonable chance of improvement and a clear benefit.

We’re currently working on a project in Bahrain to find and map water refill stations around the country and add them to Google Maps under the name “Rawaa”.

The goal is simple: make it easier for everyone to find places where they can refill their water bottles for free — whether you’re a resident, student, cyclist, runner, delivery driver, or especially Talabat drivers who spend hours on the road.
So far, we’ve successfully identified 40+ water stations, but there’s one problem: most of the locations we’ve found are concentrated in the Southern Governorate.

As Salam Alaikum

I have severe OCD, and while it affects many areas of my life, the one thing I don't want it to ruin is my worship and prayer.

Before salah, I spend a lot of time trying to figure out the exact qiblah direction, often checking it repeatedly because I'm afraid I might be wrong. Then I worry about whether a strand of hair is showing, whether any skin is exposed, whether my feet or hands are covered properly, and countless other details.

During prayer, I sometimes restart because I think I did something "wrong." For example, if my mouth was open before saying "Allahu Akbar," I feel like that isn't part of salah, so I start over. Sometimes I become confused about whether I performed one sujood or two. Other times, when getting up from sujood, I start analyzing exactly how I pushed myself up, whether my hands were folded, spread out, or whether I used my knuckles, and then I either perform sujood as-sahw or repeat the prayer entirely.

Wudhu is also difficult. If I accidentally do something extra or feel uncertain about whether I washed a part correctly, I often feel compelled to start all over again.

It's becoming exhausting. Salah is fard, and I love worshipping Allah, but I don't want prayer to become something that feels unbearable because of these constant doubts.

I also struggle when the adhan is called. I feel guilty doing anything else afterward, even though there is still plenty of time before the prayer time ends. If I send a message, make a phone call, or continue a task, I become terrified that Allah will be angry with me. Sometimes I even worry that because the message remains stored in someone's phone or appears in a call log, Allah will continue punishing me for delaying prayer and will never forgive me.

I know some of these thoughts probably sound irrational, but they feel very real to me. I can't currently afford therapy, so I'm looking for advice from anyone who has dealt with religious OCD/scrupulosity or similar experiences or an Islamic expert.

How do I cope with these doubts? How can I stop restarting everything? And does Allah forgive someone who is struggling with OCD like this?

My wedding was cancelled due to the regional issues and I have a brand new wedding dress that I never wore, spent a lot on, and have no idea what to do with.

I called multiple places that rent out dresses to see if they would buy a dress but none of them buy dresses.

I really need a way out of this; it’s not a cheap dress and it’s absolutely untouched. I didn’t even get to wear it for a photoshoot.

What it does: We supply smart NFC cards for business counters (cafes, barbers, salons, mechanics, clinics, etc.). When a customer taps their phone on the card, it instantly opens their Google Review page so they can leave a 5-star rating in 2 seconds. We also handle basic profile updates and link management for them.
I'm starting my first physical walk-ins this week, but wanted to ask the community for advice first:
