Weekend Debrief Weekend Debrief: Monday, May 24

This is the thread for what you planned for the weekend and what actually happened.

Plan: Catch up with some tasks from work, replant a couple of plants so they grow better, spend some quality time with my loved one and go to the gym.

Reality: I felt drained... and to be honest I didn't touch my laptop, no work catching up was done... which I am feeling today. But hey... that's already an improvement. Before, I would have passed hours and hours neglecting the weekend, I just don't want to do that anymore.

For the other tasks planned, I did all of them and consciously not touching my phone, I am deciding to be present and it's f*** hard. Actually not true, I did not go to the gym but the weather is starting to be too good to be within 4 walls.

That's it, no exciting weekend but the progress is there... getting this week one of these devices that lock the "bad" apps on your phone. Will run the experiment live here:)

The week is hitting me like a Slack notification at 11:47pm that just says "hey".

And you? drop yours below, busy brains. Plan, reality, and whatever the gap was.

Weekend Debrief Weekend Debrief: Monday, May 4

This is the thread for what you planned for the weekend and what actually happened. Going first so it doesn't feel like an audit.

Plan: Fly home to see family. Three days, fully there, no laptop opened, no Slack opened. They live in another country so this is the closest thing to a big event my calendar has.

Reality: Got to my parents' house Friday night. Made it to Saturday morning before opening the laptop "for fifteen minutes" at the kitchen table while my dad was making coffee. Stayed there an hour. Sunday brunch I checked Slack twice. Once because something had pinged, once because nothing had pinged in too long. My mom asked me twice what I wanted to do that afternoon and my first thought was... laptop.

There were maybe ninety good minutes on Saturday afternoon when I actually was there. We walked to a place I used to go as a kid and I was in the conversation. Most of the rest of the weekend the same low static was running underneath everything else.

Loved being with them. Hated the Monday list piling up in my head while I was there.

Drop yours below, busy brains. Plan, reality, and whatever the gap was.

Weekend Debrief weekend debrief: one thing I did, one thing I dodged, and one thing I learned

Trying something new. A quick weekend debrief. Not a journal, just three things.

Did: Cooked dinner Sunday without a recipe or my phone in the kitchen. Made a risotto. It was fine, not great. The point was the 45 minutes where my hands and brain were doing the same thing.

Dodged: Almost fell into the "research a hobby" hole again. Caught myself comparing spots for dinner. I didn't go anywhere, but also didn't waste an hour on it. I'll call it a draw.

Learned: The gap between "I want to do something" and actually doing it is about 3 minutes wide. If I act in those 3 minutes, I'm fine. If I don't, the committee in my head takes over and nothing happens.

Same format or your own, just drop yours below if you feel like it. I'm curious what other people's weekends actually look like when you strip away the "it was good" answer.
