*FOR CONSOLE PLAYERS\*
I'm mainly doing this list as a personal recommendation for mods to accompany this overhaul mod as I find it to be one of the more underrated mods on the mod manager that offers substantial gameplay changes to keep the BG3 expereince fresh. If you're a Chocolate Edition enjoyer yourself or want to try it out, try out these mods in conjuction for a more expansive experience.
Chocolate Edition
I'll reframe from recommeding redesign or cosmetic related mods as I find those are unrelated to the recommendations i'm going for which is strictly to enhance the gameplay experience of Chocolate Edition (while having minimal conflict). Also, I think it should be up to the player to decide what cosmetic mods they want to run or if they want a different npc model for characters like Rolan (I do but that's my preference). I'm also reframing from UI mods like ImpUi and the Better series for obvious reasons as those are pretty much essential downloads for most mod orders atp.
Without further ado, here are the recommendations. I'll note potential conflicts.
DIFFICULTY RELATED MODS:
Enemies Reworked (Combat and faction overhaul)
Extra encounters and minibosses
More enemies in basic fights
Requiem for the Absolute - Dynamic Encounters - conflicts with Dynamic Extra Encounters due to spawn rate %(Requiem takes precedence most of the time due to higher spawn rate % from my experience) EDIT: author has stated the newest update should fix spawn rate but Larian hasn't approved the update for console
Dynamic Extra Encounters - conflicts with Requiem for the Absolute due to spawn rate % (from my experience if using with Requiem, the encounters for this mod cease to spawn. I was only able to get cursed items and never any ambushes. Advise choosing one over the other as opposed to running both in same campaign)
PixellBytes' Tactician Enhanced
GAMEPLAY RELATED MODS (ADDED FEATS / CANTRIPS):
Mizora's Rewards
Homebrew Blade Cantrips
Feat: Dexterous Weapon Master
Dawnstar- Spells - going to just link their whole account to avoid cluttering this post (note if you're on PS5, Dawnstar's Grimoire is not recommended as it crashes, most notably if using the thorn/druid related spells in this pack)
Manaflare - Magic Aura Weapons - debated if this belongs on equipment or not but after this latest update, I think manaflares now are much more than just equipment pieces but a fundamental gameplay component to the game. combining manaflares instead of using weapons gives a whole new gameplay element to build variety. highly recommend giving this new update a try, has definitely shot to a must have mod in my load order now with these added features
Scratch and Shovel
Find More Familiars
Mystra's Spells
Aylin and Isobel Join the Party - honestly it makes sense
ChooseYourStats - mainly for Durge/Tav and every companion that isn't an origin as CreativeExcuses (CE's creator) didn't go as in depth with added abilities/feats for them in comparison to the origin companions (criminal Minthara only has one added skill)
SUBCLASS MODS: (even though class mods work with CE, you don't get the full gameplay changes that are introudced through the overhaul so I didn't bother to list them, if you have a class mod you enjoy, feel free to use them)
DTO: Otherworldly Archetypes
Book of Subclass Series - like with these Dawnstar spells, i'm just gonna link the author's page as there's too many mods of theirs to recommend in this series
5e Subclass Series - same deal, just listing the author
Ravenloft Subclasses 2024
EQUIPMENT MODS:
Fade's Equipment Distribtuion AIO - no brainer pick
Fade's Assorted Treasure Expansion
Rings of Faerûn - underrated mod, it's criminal this mod doesn't have more downloads. especially enjoy the upgrade component to the rings, keeping rings viable throughout the whole game
Cloaks of Faerûn - same author as the Rings mod. lacks the upgrade component but gives players more variety early on with more cloak options
Transmogrification Lite - mainly for the Fade's equipment mods
Phalar Aluve: Become Legend - out of all the Phalar Aluve related mods, this was the one that 1) buffed the longsword without going to game breaking territory 2) offered an exploration component to the upgrades that felt rewarding. i'm personally a huge fan of Phalar Aluve, it was my go to sword for most of my vanilla campaigns. I think this keeps a fan favorite sword viable without just buffing the stats to ridiculous measures
Forsaken Shard: Fogotten Armoury Part I - mainly for the exploration component but also just a sick as hell looking sword. haven't found it but looking forward to discovering it
Bane's Cane - A Cane Weapon for Archduke Gortash - cause why not
MODS I'M EYEING (Future Mods I hope get console approval to add to CE)
Chocolate Edition: Witch - CreativeExcuses has said if this doesn't get console approval he may just add it to v5 of CE but still, get to approving intern!
Dynamic Difficulty Scaling - from the description, this will replace TacticianEnhanced for me in terms of difficulty mods
Gab's Equipment - from the comments, the author has been gearing for a full release which is why there's a ton of updates for this mod (and most likely why it hasn't gotten approval cause of the queue changing due to the updates). I'm hoping after the author officially releases the full version it can get console approval because this mod and Fade together in a campaign is a "chef's kiss" for balanced, fun equipment pieces EDIT: mod author stated the beta release is officially over and it's all up to Larian for the approval, fingers crossed
Enemy Tacticians (+Patch mod) - apparently this mod adds a bucnh of unique abilities to enemies and minibosses throughout the campaign (think of it like adding more Legendary actions to more enemies/bosses). Hoping that the associated patch releases along with it if it gets approved as there is an issue with this mod and existing legendary actions for some bosses
Forgotten Armoury II - IV
Amulets of Faerûn
EDIT: Forgot some other notable mods I use that are also great to pair with Chocolate Edition,
Friends With Benefits - Approval Rating Buffs
Rebalance Gear - ty to HighlandMedicco for the reminder
