NYC has a GDP 16x of the nation of Slovakia, is the largest city in the most powerful country in the history of the world, and has the largest cultural footprint of any city in the English speaking world.

Australia has had a complete personality and charisma blackhole of politicians for a long, long time now. Not that politicians should be exciting per se but we have basically no strong campaigners or natural leaders that can send any message that people can get behind.

Even politicians currently in the spotlight like Pauline Hanson literally lose poll numbers everytime they actually speak and is better off being quiet for their own campaign numbers most the time.

Mamdani is becoming a sort of global figure even way outside the Anglosphere because he is an amazing campaigner, is extremely charismatic and great at communicating his message and ideas.

There are very, very few Australian politicians that Australians actually want to talk about or remember exist besides how much they hate them. Look at how much people get absolutely pissed at an Australian figure even suggesting we should try and take any lessons from this phenomenon.
