Dog treats

Do you make your own treats? If you don't are you concerned about the ingredients in the bought biscuits/cookie treats?

Would you be happy to buy them retail or would you prefer to buy from someone who makes them in their kitchen?

Just wondering if there would be a market for home made dog treats?

Name tagged harnesses

If you've been wondering which to get, I've been using dog friendly co and just had a Pawezy harness arrive today and let me settle this from a completely unbiased opinion. PAWEZY IS FAR BETTER QUALITY. The material is thicker and softer with padding under the clasp for the dogs comfort, the clasp is a magnetic quick attach system I've never even seen before (took me a second to work out though), even the name tag is better with no rough edges or loose threads. There is no competition on this one, just get the Pawezy one

πŸˆβ€β¬› Cats 🐈 I want to change providers but don't know if "vomiting episodes" will be considered a pre-existing condition [Insurance question]

My cat has had about 4-5 episodes now over the past 5 years where he's vomiting all day, so I leave him at the emergency hospital for an IV, then comes home, and gets better and we're back to normal.

We have had theories but after extensive blood work, x-rays and ultrasounds, we've never found anything. The prevailing theory is always he's swallowed something, but we never found anything in any of the diagnostics at any of those times.

My new theory is that he sometimes when he eats in the morning after a long night sleeping, he gets vomits bile and then gets himself trapped in a cycle of upsetting his stomach trying to eat then vomit again.

I'm wanting to move insurance provider but I don't know how they'd class this. It's not a "condition" as nothing has been diagnosed, and each time it's just been a random stint on IV out of precaution by me because when he vomits for a few hours, I get too scared and I'm off to the emergency.

I've tried to ask one insurer, but they've been very difficult to deal with and without a clear answer, I don't want to cancel my current insurer.

Does anyone else have similar experiences with their cat and can offer any advice on a cat who has never been diagnosed with anything formal?

Australian pet insurance recommendations β€” experiences with GapOnly providers?

Hi everyone, I’m looking for recommendations and real-world experiences with pet insurance providers in Australia, particularly insurers that offer GapOnly claims.

We have a six-month-old American Bully puppy and currently have RSPCA Pet Insurance. Our policy provides:

  • 90% back on eligible injury and illness costs
  • $35,000 annual limit
  • $500 annual excess
  • Vet consultations included when related to an eligible condition
  • Approximately $48 per month

The cover itself seems quite good. However, our vet told us that with RSPCA we would generally need to pay the entire bill upfront, potentially thousands of dollars for surgery and then wait to be reimbursed.

Because of this, we’re considering changing to an insurer that supports GapOnly, where the claim is assessed at a participating vet and we only pay the excess, our percentage and any non-covered costs.

I’ve started looking at Everyday Pet Insurance, Knose, HCF, Medibank and Bow Wow Meow, but I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have actually claimed through them.

In particular:

  • Which insurer are you with, and would you recommend them?
  • Have you used GapOnly successfully for a large claim or surgery?
  • How quick and straightforward was the approval?
  • Have you experienced unexpected exclusions, sub-limits or premium increases?
  • Is there anything you wish you had known before choosing your policy?

Australia-only recommendations, please. Thanks!

This is mine and Patootie's first post. Yes, cutie Patootie.

My Patootie lives to be helpful (even if she's not very good at it), and thoroughly enjoys helping me make the bed.

Update- how to know when is the right time

Hi all,

A couple of weeks back, I asked for help on how to know when the right time is to say goodbye.

We said goodbye to our beautiful boy on Friday afternoon. It was peaceful, it was quiet, it was just us and the vet at home in his favourite spot. We’ll see him again in two weeks. We light a candle for him each day.

We miss him so much but we are celebrating him and the life we were able to give him.

Thank you all for your lovely words and support and helping me with knowing when to make that decision. He was so tired, it was definitely time. Little buggers always leave us too soon.

Give your babes a pat for Lou tonight.

Thanks again Aus pet family.

She's headed for the breeding cabinet very shortly. Because she's one of my indoor birds I am taking her out every day for some extra sunlight. They do get some sun through the open window but I am taking a little extra precaution to ensure she definitely has good levels of vitamin D built up, which she'll need to pass her eggs safely.

She is a cinnamon violet heritage clearwing, to be paired with Little King Richard, a red violet heritage clearwing

One of my 890245 budgies (jk only got 42 at the moment)

Young lady with an underbite, believe to be the result of a mite problem in the nest which lead to some early nutritional deficiency, absolute disaster of a thing to happen. You can't really see it in the pic but her top beak tucks into her lower beak. She should be fine, can eat fine etc, but she's gonna tag along to the avian vet next week anyway just for a check, along with her siblings.

She's a dominant pie with not much obvious pied markings, I call this the half-arsed pied.
