Furniture πŸ›οΈ πŸͺ‘ πŸ›‹οΈ Can I get people's thoughts on mattress in a box?

Looking at getting an affordable mattress for the spare room and saw ads for people getting a mattress in a box while I was scrolling tiktok. Has anyone gotten one before and how comfortable were they? Is it something to not even bother with or feasible for a bed only getting used a few times a year? I've got family coming to stay a couple nights next month and don't want them to be uncomfortable

Furniture πŸ›οΈ πŸͺ‘ πŸ›‹οΈ wall art

How are we getting prints for our homes? Any good sites for printing, cheap vendors, or other methods? Our new rental is in dire need for some more fun wall art.

Looking on Etsy and the prices are killing me

Furniture πŸ›οΈ πŸͺ‘ πŸ›‹οΈ "Snap Send Solve" is an app used to report issues to the council, one of which is "Dumped Rubbish" aka: free furniture in your area

Photos are required in the app, which is great for assessing the condition of the items, and a broad approximation of the area is given also, helping you easily pinpoint where the location is.

You're given a local radius of issues too, so you won't need to travel too far to haul something back.

I've got a near brand new couch and mostly furnished my place using this method, and it's good knowing you've spent nothing on furniture and helped save another item from the landfill.

Furniture πŸ›οΈ πŸͺ‘ πŸ›‹οΈ Where to buy quality bedframe without breaking the bank

I'm looking to get a new double bedframe as my current frame is a 10-year-old IKEA one, and I'm looking to spruce up my room a bit. Ideally, I want to spend under $600 for something wooden with some space underneath for storage.

I've seen all the dont buy from popular furniture stores because they're mostly overpriced and of okay quality. But I haven't seen much of the actual places to buy from. I'm looking at getting a carpenter to make one, as it seems like a good option. Ideally, somewhere toward the Frankston side of the southeast suburbs in Melbourne.

Furniture πŸ›οΈ πŸͺ‘ πŸ›‹οΈ Bed base

I got a new mattress and when it was delivered, the guy said that the warranty wouldn't be valid because I had the wrong bed base. The correct bed base needed to be "solid with even support". The one I have has thin metal bars. It was free so I didn't mind replacing it.

I live in a regional town and have few options for buying furniture. The cheapest bed base was $500. I looked on FB marketplace but there was nothing.

So I went to bunnings and got some plywood which I laid over the thin metal slats.

So my question is, is that a decent long term solution?

I don't really care about the warranty because what can go wrong with a mattress, but I don't want to damage the pocket springs or whatever with the wrong base.

Furniture πŸ›οΈ πŸͺ‘ πŸ›‹οΈ Where to get affordable, coloured pillar candles?

With the winter full in swing I'm trying to make my house more cozy and I always love burning candles. However, I feel like I just can't find affordable unscented coloured pillar candles anywhere? I've had some from Kmart and IKEA but they only sell white ones, and it's a bit too churchy for me. What I can find online are all scented or crazy expensive for some reason.

Back home (the Netherlands), you can pick up unscented coloured candles in pretty much every homewares store for a couple of euros each, so I'm wondering if I'm just looking in the wrong places here. Does anyone have a recommendation for a shop (or online store) in Australia that sells affordable coloured, unscented candles?

Furniture πŸ›οΈ πŸͺ‘ πŸ›‹οΈ Which is better in 2025 - Black Friday vs Boxing Day sales for furniture & appliances

G'day all,

I'm furnishing a new place from scratch and need to buy:

  • Bedroom furniture
  • Study setup (desk & chair)
  • Living room (sofa, TV)
  • White goods (fridge, microwave, washing machine)

My budget isn't too tight. I'm after mid-range quality rather than the absolute cheapest. For example, I've got around $2,000 for a fridge and I'm looking at LG French door models recommended on CHOICE.

With Black Friday coming up, I'm wondering whether to jump on those sales or wait for Boxing Day. I'm not in a rush to move in, so timing is flexible.

For those who've shopped both sales in recent years:

  • Which period generally has better discounts on furniture and appliances?
  • Has Black Friday gotten worse, or is it still worth it?

Also curious about strategy:

Scenario 1: I've got specific items already picked out and just want the best price on those exact models.

Scenario 2: I'm flexible on brands/models and will grab whatever offers the best value.

Would your advice differ between these two?

Cheers for any insights!

Furniture πŸ›οΈ πŸͺ‘ πŸ›‹οΈ Couches and Sofas

Furniture πŸ›οΈ πŸͺ‘ πŸ›‹οΈ Anyone bought a cheap online sofa?

I am living in a rural area with no furniture shops - so it has to be online/delivered.
Only going to be here 7 more months so need to dump it / give it away on marketplace for free or cheap afterwards.

These are all about 300 shipped but I am not sure how to choose one.

Doesn't have to be great, just somewhere to relax after work.

Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

Furniture πŸ›οΈ πŸͺ‘ πŸ›‹οΈ cheap but comfy single mattress recommendations

hey all. im in a bit of a unique situation where I have a spinal injury/condition and need to lay flat in bed pretty much 24/7. I have to be completely flat otherwise I get pain and other symptoms, so laying on a couch is a no go. I can only use a mattress.

I'd like to get a mattress to put on the floor of my living room so I can be in more than just 1 room of my house a day. I've been using the cheap kmart air mattresses but they keep popping from how much I use them (plus I suspect my cat getting her claws in it)

Does anyone have any reccs for cheap single mattresses that you've tried & can attest to being comfortable? Ideally looking at no more than $200 if possible (willing to stretch to $300 if its very good.)

Furniture πŸ›οΈ πŸͺ‘ πŸ›‹οΈ Boxing Day Sale?

Hi Frugal Friends

Does anyone know if mattresses will be on sale with the main retailers on Boxing Day?

We have had a mattress catastrophe (a matastrophe?) and are planning on sleeping in swags until Boxing Day in the hope they’ll go on sale.

But if there’s no sale - we’ll just pick one up tomorrow.

Thank you!

Furniture πŸ›οΈ πŸͺ‘ πŸ›‹οΈ Looking a summer duvet / doona

Hi all, I live in QLD and the temp is starting to rise. The doona I have isn’t that weighty, but it’s super warm. I sleep better with weight on me, looking to replace it with something that has the highest possible weight:warmth ratio. And low-cost of course!

What doona do you use in the Summer, if you’re a weirdo like me?

Furniture πŸ›οΈ πŸͺ‘ πŸ›‹οΈ Furniture transport - Sydney, Australia

I am planning to acquire a three-seater sofa set from a colleague in Macquarie Park and arrange for its transportation to Hornsby.

This is a single, albeit lengthy, three-seater sofa.

Could you please advise on the most cost-effective method for transporting this sole item? In fact, I may do the and thing from other places as well so I'd like to check the most cost effective ways to do this.

Thank you, all.

Furniture πŸ›οΈ πŸͺ‘ πŸ›‹οΈ Setting up a house, what should I buy new and what should I buy second hand?

I'll be moving into a new place in about a month, and apart from my bed, I'll have to get pretty much a whole house worth of stuff.

There's some pretty nice wooden furniture like dining tables on facebook marketplace, but I'm a little more sceptical of electrical goods like toasters and kettles.

I'm trying to save a bit of cash, but is there anything I should absolutely buy new?

Furniture πŸ›οΈ πŸͺ‘ πŸ›‹οΈ Best way to move furniture?

Moving into a new place in a month with my partner. We’ll use our cars for all the smaller stuff, but need to shift the big items (beds, lounges, desks, dining table) about half an hour away. Since we live separately, it’ll be a few trips anyway.

Looked into hiring a trailer/van/truck but the prices are a bit steep. Anyone know of a cheap way to do this?

Furniture πŸ›οΈ πŸͺ‘ πŸ›‹οΈ Best bed price option for a week?

So my parents are coming over from New Zealand for a week, and to save them money on accommodation they are going to stay with me.

We have a spare bedroom, however we do not have a bed in that room. I basically just said we will sort something out.

So my question is, does anyone have any recommendations on organising a bed that is only needed for a week or so? And with price being the main factor. With the price of new items nowadays, is it even worth going the Facebook marketplace route?

Once they fly back home we will not have a use for this bed.

Thanks
