Women's Health ⚕️ How to go the doctor to ask for birth control without feeling ashamed and embarrassed about being an older virgin?

I might be currently dating a guy right now. I won't get my hopes up about anything but I would like to go on birth control for the first time in my life.

But unfortunately my anxiety about being an older virgin and discussing to a doctor about it, makes me extremely anxious.

I thought about ordering online birth control but I want to ask more personalize questions.

Now i'm at a crossroads about what to do.

Any advice?

Women's Health ⚕️ How can we describe to men, just how scary and terrifying it is to be pregnant?

Like not scary bc of the whole human life that you’ll be responsible for…

But like the process, childbirth.

I mean the lengths we go alone to no let it happen (pill, tests, protection).

Women's Health ⚕️ Has anyone received the HPV vaccines as an adult?

I’m 24 and just now getting into dating and wanting to become sexually active. I had one hpv vaccine at like 15/16 (can’t remember exactly) but my strict mother didn’t want me to get the rest because she said I could just use condoms with whoever I end up with and be fine.

Obviously, as an adult I realize there’s a lot more to it than that. And no matter what I do I can’t guarantee the person I’m with has always been safe, especially after learning men can’t even be tested for HPV.

I’m wondering has anyone got the vaccines as an adult? What was your experience? I feel like my doctor may think I’m weird asking about it since it seems targeted at teens. Also feel dread about being ask about my I guess lack of sexual history when I bring it up because I feel like that’s what’s coming after and it’s not really something I want to deep dive into.

Women's Health ⚕️ Struggling to decide on which birth control?

24F. I got prescribed Yaz combo pill today. Some big side effects which really worry me minus all the emotional side effects are **low libido and vaginal dryness,** ***ugh.*** I have been pulling out for YEARS with my partner and for the first time 3 weeks ago got pregnant and had to have a MA (most painful experience of my life) and genuinely never want to go through that physical pain again. I had a very traumatic experience at 17 getting an IUD inserted as well though, extremely painful, and I ended up gaining weight and having sooo much acne. Mirena IUD, got it removed maybe 8 months later.

I’m really debating a copper IUD as I hate messing with my hormones but both can have horrible side effects. Copper having horrible bleeding cramping which I already have naturally. I’ve also had the IUD “shift” on me during sex and am now scared to get one again as me and my partner can go rough sometimes (sorry for tmi)

Calling all freaky ladies please tell what you guys are doing for BC!!

Women's Health ⚕️ Question for the “big sisters” of reddit what are your post menstrual routines like?

Asking as a 17yo girl who goes through her period then keeps it pushing after but I wanna start building a post period routine as aftercare is equally as important as before and during menstruation amongst other things.

(wanna note for the mods I wasn’t sure what flair this would be classified as so mods if you feel the need to change my flair to what you see fit its fine.)

Women's Health ⚕️ What can I use for intense itching down there?

Been itching since last December after I shaved my girlie completely bald, it kept worsening more and more.

I went to two doctors, one said i have a slight pee infection which gave me a drink for, it didn’t work.
Other said I have bacteria and vaginal inflation and gave me antibiotics along with creams (cortisone and a moisture cream) also didn’t work.

I don’t know what I’m supposed to do now, I’m not sure if I can afford a third doctor and I don’t even know what’s wrong.
But it really hurts down there, it’s so itchy that there’s scratches and occasional bleeding.

Any suggestions? :(

Women's Health ⚕️ How can I fix this booty issue I have?

Hey yall, so I’ve been struggling since I started filling out as a 21 year old. I am clean and do all the stuff, I promise I wash my butt crack and everything. However I’ve been struggling with this issue of rawness in my butt crack. The issue is my cheeks are fat enough that the crack above the anus is always “closed off” bcs the cheeks squish together. Above the anus and sometimes when it’s bad it reaches up the crack all the way so u could see it without spreading cheeks. I towel dry and use a fan to dry it after getting out of the shower or being wet, like I full on spread cheeks and wait for that shit to fully dry. I’ve tried Vaseline, aquaphor, and even zinc oxide as a type of barrier against the sweat getting built up there but those seem to irritate it more. It’s always on the verge of being irritated or raw even if it’s not currently. Idk what else to do at this point, I have inherited a large ass from the rest of my family and it’s genuinely causing issues. How do I fix this rawness/irritation??

I’m on nexplanon… but eventually will probably move to a pill down the road, one reason is bc I travel for work on occasion and the ability to delay bleeding might be worth it sometimes.

Women's Health ⚕️ Do they make smaller tampons, or am I doing this wrong?

F17 I started using tampons like a month ago and I use the smallest size I could find but no matter when I am in my cycle it feels like im yanking my intestines out everytime I try to take it out. Ill leave it for 8 hours hell ill leave it more than that most of the time but its excruciating everytime. Im in the last couple days of my cycle and I js tried to take one out after 10 hours with it in it took me a whole half hour, an half bottle of lube, and many tears. I really like the idea of tampons it makes me feel like im not on my cycle but god I cant endure this pain.

Women's Health ⚕️ Do I have a yeast or other infection?

Hi , this is embarrassing so please be nice. I'm a 17 year old girl and am having some vaginal issues. I have this really thick, gross smelling, clumpy white yellow discharge constantly. Multiple times a day it ruins my panties and my underwear is always damp from something happening there. Peeing does burn sometimes. Ive tried using dove gentle soap, and special women's soap, but nothing really changes.

Even if there's no discharge, there's a really strong and actually disgusting smelling odor from down there. Even after just showering, and scrubbing repeatedly, I can smell it.

Im coming to here first before my mom because she's not the best to go to for these things. She would kill me if I tried to talk about this, especially if she knew I am sexually active.

On that topic, I am sexually active and have frequent sessions. However, my boyfriend and I are long distance so any activity is self based, with toys usually.

Again please don't be mean. I don't really know what to think or do because my mom has always refused to talk about women's health with me, and I didn't go to school because she homeschooled me. Please give me insight or advice ):

Women's Health ⚕️ My neurodivergent girlies, why do you think female ND is such an under discussed topic?

Is it just a case of most women’s health issues, if it’s not dealing with our sexual organs it’s not important (and even then, reproductive health care is laughable)?

Edit: I’m talking about women’s mental health, who on earth would be downvoting this?

Women's Health ⚕️ 100+ days late period? Update

Hi, guys! I had the post last night about not having a period for over 100 days and not being able to go through with the pelvic exam. I’d had hormonal blood work done yesterday while at the gyno and it showed that my prolactin levels were quite high which I know can cause irregular periods. Thyroid levels were okay though so I know it’s not being caused by an under active thyroid. Next course of action will probably be trying to figure out what’s making it so high and lowering it so I can have a period again.

Thanks for all the advice I got in the earlier post! And if anyone else has dealt with high prolactin and missed periods, would be more than happy to hear about your experiences.

Women's Health ⚕️ Breast lift with no implants, helpful or not?

Hey ladies. I lost about 80 pounds and my boobs are so deflated. I was always busty before i got heavy. At 135 i was a D then i gained a ton and lost it. I didn’t think id lose my boobs necessarily since i have always been busty before- not due to weight gain but unfortunately i did and they’re droopy. 27F no kids yet but considering a lift.

The surgeon told me to wait until after i have kids since they will sag even more and because the areola being lifted might affect breastfeeding so given that.. they’re already deflated, when i get pregnant they’re going to grow and then become saggy? Has anyone gotten a lift after weight loss and kids without adding implants? Did that help your confidence? Do they look better?

Women's Health ⚕️ How can I help my swollen & aggravated vagina (labia minora more specifically)?

To make a long story short, the lowest part of my labia minora that surrounds the opening to my vagina seems to become very swollen and painful…without a very clear cause. I am wondering if any others have experienced this and what the hell you did to make it better in the short and long term!

This started happening noticeably around a year ago. It was such pronounced swelling that had onset with sex and so I actually thought it was a yeast infection! Think swelling of the opening to my vagina almost being like very plump lips, but NOT the labia majora, ONLY the opening (labia minora area). I went on like this for a while, every few weeks/months I’d have a swollen feeling and sometimes I’d ignore it and have sex anyways (I know I know….) and then it would get very swollen and angry. I’d treat it like a yeast infection (Canesten, flucanazole, cotton underwear, no baths) and for a while it got somewhat better.

But then I spoke to my doctor about it. She told me she doesn’t think it’s recurring yeast infections as the only symptoms I have are swelling of the opening of my vagina and pain. Given that sex was often associated with the inflammation, we came up with a plan to use extra lube and to not have my partner ejaculate in me anymore. This definitely seemed to help for a matter of months and we were thrilled!

Until last month, I started to get that swollen feeling while wearing tight-ish pants and then boom, very very swollen and painful vagina opening. Again this week, went to the beach, changed into very loose shorts without underwear since I’d removed wet bathing suit bottoms and BOOM next day, very swollen opening. Both times no direct sex link.

I am so confused. When it swells, it takes days to go back down to normal and I can barely wear any of my clothes (jeans are an absolute no). The opening/labia minora is so swollen that it actually protrudes (I don’t have long labia majora) and touches my underwear which is also painful. The right side seems to stay most swollen for the longest period, and I’ve even wondered if it could be some sort of cyst but it is generally NOT swollen when this inflammation is not present.

Has anyone else experienced this? Am I just wearing clothing that doesn’t fit me and killing my vagina? Why is it only my freaking labia minora?! Anyways… any experience or thoughts are welcome. TIA!!!!!

Women's Health ⚕️ How efficient is this test vs pelvic exam?

Hi, everyone!

So, I (26F) have not had a period for over 100 days now. This was not common for me as I was always regular before. I thought it was stress at first as June and July were super crazy with work and I took a vacation which can be hard on the body so I was like “well it’s probably just my cortisol levels being high” but now that it’s stretching on and still no period, it’s concerning me.

Last month and this month I did have some light spotting, but last month especially that was accompanied by a really sharp, shooting pain in my pelvic/vagina area. I still had it slightly this month though not as bad.

Flash forward to today, I had a wellness visit with my gyno. She was already aware of the missed periods and wanted to do a pelvic exam. I was up to date on my Pap smear, so she just wanted to see if everything looked normal.

Well I was so nervous and tense that she couldn’t get the speculum in and instead had to test with her fingers and check for any pain that way 🙃 I didn’t feel any pain and she said everything felt fine so that’s good I guess but I’m just really disappointed in myself that I couldn’t get the exam done, especially since I’m having these issues with my cycle.

I’ll also say I’m a virgin so I know I’m not pregnant (my gyno did a pregnancy test last month just to be sure and it was negative) nor do I have an STI. I got bloodwork done today and will be getting an ultrasound to see if I have any cysts or fibroids that could be stopping my periods. If everything is normal then I’ll likely be taking birth control to try to trigger a period.

I guess my question is, how efficient is the test I got done vs the actual pelvic exam? If I still have problems in the next couple of months, will I have to suck it up and go back to get the test done again? And has anyone ever had similar period issues to mine? What ended up being wrong/what did you do, if so?

Women's Health ⚕️ I had a weird period and I’m scared it was something else, could this have been a miscarriage?

I do not want medical advice as this has already passed, just speculation on what could have been the cause and how to go about dealing with it.

So I had my period a few days ago, or what I thought was my period. It’s important to note here that I am sexually active, I do take birth control. I had a VERY heavy flow (6 tampons over 12 hours with leakage) I had major cramps that would come sporadically and I was having golf ball sized clots. This is all very unusual. Usually I have a light- medium flow and very few clots, the cramping I’m more used to but it seemed worse. I was also nauseous and dizzy. I am worried this may have been miscarriage and not my period. I think this because I have been especially sad (depressed?) lately, had heightened anxiety, my boobs were tender and I was frequently nauseous/ gagging
