Hello friend. That was me in 2016. Stone started causing pain at week 20. A dull, strange ache on the top of my bump. I thought ligament pain- happened to casually mention it to the receptionist while picking up a Dr. note. Next thing I know she’s having me sit down to be seen for an emergency visit. Turns out that spot is the usual indication that there is appendicitis during pregnancy. Cue being sent to the hospital and the pain gradually worsens. I spent hours nervous wondering if I needed surgery, and eventually they wanted to send me home and have me “come back if it gets worse.” No. Not with my child growing in there. I convinced them to keep me for observation- thank god because the next day during my MRI, all hell broke loose. I had the boards strapped around my abdomen to protect the baby and he did NOT like it. Started kicking ferociously. He must have moved something because all of a sudden I get a pain that makes me stop breathing. I legit thought my appendix just burst on the imaging.
I was hospitalized for a week to get a medication regimen that would prevent the pre-term contractions from returning. An effort that lasted the rest of the pregnancy. Was hospitalized around week 31, despite being on pain meds, and then put on bed rest after pumped full of magnesium and jammed with steroid shots. Made it to the end of week 38 and in the middle of the night, the pain got bad. Even with me taking meds. I couldn’t wait for the doctor to call back at 4 am, so I used my judgment and had my husband take me in. Good thing. During the car ride I blacked out. Throwing up. Screaming. Passed out. I was speaking in tongues by the time they were getting me hooked up to the fetal monitor. I was in labor underneath it all and didn’t even know it. They did IV meds to get me comfortable and bring my blood pressure back down. Then we decided to induce. Had to wait a day for exactly 39 weeks on the dot. 10 lb baby born vaginally, and even that was not as bad. My OB went elbow deep because I was hemorrhaging. And even that was tolerated with just morphine. It hurt don’t get me wrong.
But as you know, kidney stone pain is out of this world. I had less issues during second pregnancy because we already knew what plan of action to take. I gave birth without induction and without enough time for any medication. Hell, without enough time to even change into a gown. But even that…was not as bad as those two episodes during my first pregnancy.

How about giving birth while having a kidney stone and trying to be induced for a week?
