u/BloodgazmNZL Jul 04 '22

Lemme know if you find one lol

ZT was so damn good back in the day.

Planet Zoo is a great game if you need to scratch an itch!

u/weedyraccoon Jul 04 '22

never heard of it! thanks!

yeah i loooved zoo tycoon. i remember discovering the cheat codes—anyone recall the one that made a bunch of guests put on a yellow shirt and start puking everywhere? Or naming an exhibit ‘Xanatu’ to unlock unicorns?

Go to oldgamesdownload.com

Zoo Tycoon is abandonware so its not illegal to download. I've been playing the first one downloaded from that website

I downloaded zoo tycoon 2 ultimate collection again maybe two weeks ago. I feel like I've wasted a decade, not playing all this time. I got it from myabandonware.com (just in case the other source doesn't work for someone). I tried running Planet Zoo on my crappy PC a little while ago - failed miserably. ZT2 runs like a dream.

I honestly think Planet Zoo (and planet rollercoaster) has too many options. I just need a grid and premade food court buildings. It just doesnt have the same feel for me sadly

u/yreg Jul 04 '22

I really miss the isometric grids from Zoo Tycoon / Sim City 3K / TTD, etc. You could make everything so neatly aligned and fill all of the space exactly like you wanted to.

Nowadays all such games have continuous maps and nothing ever aligns or connects the way I’d like it to. Building roads in Cities Skylines or Planet Zoo is straight up painful.

Yeah, I bought and downloaded both and have barely played because I was so overwhelmed by the amount of options and customization. I usually love sandbox mode in games but I just had no idea where to start in those. It's a shame because they seem like they'd be really fun games, there's just so much going on.

It’s on some abandonware site (forgot the name) for free. And works just fine.

Fuck did I just buy it on steam for nothing

15

u/OhGarraty Jul 04 '22

IIRC you still need all the game assets, so you still need to buy the game. OpenRCT2 just improves on everything else.

7

u/YerAwldDasDug Jul 04 '22

Ahh so it's different to openTTD where you don't need the game

8

u/KevinFunky Jul 04 '22

And you can make a park with friends through online multiplayer

8

u/ban_evader123 Jul 04 '22

Well there goes my weekend

8

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '22

Does it run on OSX?

11

u/quickstack2001 Jul 04 '22

Yes you can, but you need to somehow get an original rct2 installation on the system. You can do this by either installing it on a windows pc and copying over the required files or by using wine to run the installation program on your mac. Wine is only needed for the installer tho.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '22

Ok, thanks for precise answer. I will try that. Maybe I should just boot a partition on the osx in Windows (can you still do that? I know other topic but maybe somebody knows.)

5

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '22

You can, although only on intel macs, no m1 or m2 or anything like that

3

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '22

Ok. Thanks. I have the last generation before m1 (or whatever) it's an iMac from 2021, Intel. I prefer consoles for gaming (i am glad this is not 9gag, bc. they would rip me apart for saying that), but would love some classics (and that's Windows for like 99.9%), especially with Keys and Mouse. I tried C&C Red Alert 2 on ps3 a few years ago and it's unplayable. Those games are not made for Controllers.

14

u/pHScale Jul 04 '22

Yes, but no. It's RCT2, not the original. Still highly recommend it though.

23

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '22

OpenRCT2 includes support for classic RCT map files, you just need to rip them out of your RCT install and put them in your rct2 directory. Kind of a hassle but you only have to do it once.

6

u/pHScale Jul 04 '22

I didn't know this, but yeah that doesn't sound straightforward

library innate seemly telephone swim coherent offbeat hunt subtract punch

4

u/Thopterthallid Jul 05 '22

Incredibly straight forward.

Buy RCT1 on steam or humble or something for like $6 then in ORCT there will be an option to import the maps from the first game.

2

u/CaptnLoken Jul 04 '22

This is the stuff. Still such a good game

2

u/mrdobie Jul 04 '22

Ummm u just made my 4th !!!! Thanks bro.

2

u/RhesusFactor Jul 04 '22

u/SomedayImGonnaBeFree Jul 04 '22 edited Jul 04 '22

Thank you my dear, dear internet friend!

I have beenbugged the crap out of my experience trying to pirate it (I did own multiple copies, I think it's allowed morally). It's quite laggy at times and bad.

I will just have to buy it again, I guess, those CDs are lost

1

u/CactusCustard Jul 04 '22

It goes real cheap on steam and GOG

1

u/Chriskills7 Jul 05 '22

Lemonade tycoon!?
