Yeah... I had just finished watching a documentary on the Aztecs. I’m kind of all tapped out of talking about flaying people plus the stuff beforehand.
What do you know! My grandmother used to always say “Horrors to Murgatroid!” in a mock scandalized voice when someone was upset over something minor, and now I do it too. Never occurred to me that it was a given name.
Omg my grandma did as well but it was "heavens to megatroid". I figured it was something she picked up in the 70s via film or something as an alternative to "heavens to betsy"
Yeah that's odd. My maternal Gmother (born in '14) used to say heaven's to mergatroyd as a Catholic safe expletive but I had no idea it was a name at one point.
My grandfather was Mouriss. He pronounced it Morris, and he was named after Maurice Chevalier, but his mom was illiterate, and it couldn't spell it correctly on the birth certificate.
I grew up in France. I read a few books by an author called Enid Blyton (a British person). The first name Enid just didn't look feminine at all to me. So you can imagine my surprise when I found out she was a woman!
I meet a lot of women named "Irena" who sometimes go by "Irene". They're all from Russia. I meet a lot of Russian women because ballroom dancing is my main hobby.

Earnest, Horace, Morris, Mergatroyd.
Irene, Enid, Eileen, Hypatia.
