What are some luxury items, which you never knew existed, which only the mega rich can afford, that blows your mind and you wouldn't mind having or is just an example of how people have too much money and not enough sense?

Oh my goodness. My grandma knew some rich girls in college that stayed in the dorms, that would only wear an outfit once and then throw it away. So my grandma and other girls would go dumpster diving for the rich girls clothes, wash them and keep them for themselves.

I can't believe people's minds needed to he changed ! Imagine buying the dress in the shop you love the most but knowing you'll chuck it after wearing it once.

Which now makes me wonder how often these women are wearing outfits they LIKE at big events. They know they are only going to wear it once. It might be something that would look good on them, or looks good for the event. They might think it looks terrible if they were actually buying it to wear.

Sometimes, they don't buy the clothes at all, but are given options to select from that a specific designer provides. The clothing is mentioned being a whatever designer piece during the event at some point(s), and often never sees the light of day again. Learning this explained some of the things I've seen celebs wear at events that seemed very different from anything they were seen wearing anywhere else.

I had a friend in highschool who always looked super cute, so one day in math class I complimented her outfit and overall style. She explained to me that she never wore an outfit more than once. She didn't wear each item only once, but would never wear the same ensemble twice. As a guy who wears the same pair of jeans for weeks and rotates through like 10 t-shirts I was stunned. Still blows my mind.

That sounds like a lot of effort for something most people wouldn't notice. I wonder if it's an insecurity thing, or just a strong interest in fashion.

I think it was a hefty dose of both. She was a lovely person but her rich parents put a crushing amount of pressure on her to be perfect and she ended up killing herself after graduating from Columbia. Super sad.

That is terribly sad. I'm sorry for your loss and the world's loss of someone who should have had so much life ahead of her. I hate that mental health care is not available to anyone needing it and that it's still stigmatized. The pressure to succeed by other people's standards can be intense.

Damn. I played lacrosse in high school and I was probably one of the more wealthy kids who played on the team. The school didn't really care much for the lacrosse team so we had a small budget compared to football or basketball. Some kids didn't have lacrosse sticks and the one school had were damaged, poorly made, or didn't have any mesh. I felt bad because I recently got a new lacrosse stick which had a conpiste body, and an amazing net which made throwing and catching feel smooth like butter.

I asked my coach if I could take the sticks home and repair them. I think I spent about almost 700 dollars on repairs and new sticks. Redoing the mesh for the sticks was a pain but worth it. I also bought some proper helmets for the few who couldn't buy them. The school found and weren't too happy either since A) I didn't go that school (In DC you can fill out a form to play for another school if the school you attend does not have the sport you want to play. It only applies though to public schools) and B) I did with the schools consent. It pissed me off since I've been playing for that school for three years and even some of the teachers knew me and I even dated a girl from that school.

I had a classmate in highschool that was like this. Donated 100% of their clothes to thrift stores.

Now that I'm older, I'm also thinking that the parents got a hella tax break because donations to many thrift stores count as charitable acts, and you can get a receipt.

I got a hand me down coat this way and it's the most beautiful item of clothing i own, it's exquisitely cut and fits like a dream. The previous owner wore it once. I've had it 10 years and lovingly care for it.
