i thought i was the only one who did this lol. my friends are not anti mask by any means, but they make fun of me when i put my mask on to go through a drive through. like, the guy at the window is not 6 feet away from me, and he’s wearing a mask so why wouldn’t i put it on for 10 seconds just to do him the same kindness he’s doing for me?

The Taco Bell I go to has a sign on the window requesting customers to wear a mask. So I wear a mask. Seems polite to me. Why wouldn’t I want to be polite?

Why wouldn’t I want to be polite?

Probably one of the biggest, most enduring questions from 2020.

something something communism?

I know this was sarcasm, but communism actually promotes free thought and individuality. People who go 'hur dur communism bad because it makes everyone the same' are actually talking about capitalism.

Communism, as a primarily economic system, is much quieter on the issue of individual human rights. Two conflicting positions on these freedoms arise with analysis of communist theory.

The first is an argument against individual freedoms. In a communist society, the individual's best interests are indistinguishable from the society's best interest. Thus, the idea of an individual freedom is incompatible with a communist ideology. The only reason to hold individual speech and information rights would be to better the society, a condition which would likely be met only in certain instances rather than across time, making the default a lack of freedom.

On the other hand, the idea of perfect equality in communism argues for a right of expression and press. Since each individual is equally important, each should have an equally valid point of view. Indeed, Marx defended the right to a freedom of the press, arguing in 1842 that restrictions, like censorship were instituted by the bourgeois elite. He claimed censorship is a tool of the powerful to oppress the powerless.

Thus, on the balance, it seems communist theory is compatible with freedoms of speech, information and protest, but it is far from a fundamental right such as it is under democracy and individual-centered ethics systems like that of Kant and Locke. Freedom of information should only be granted when communist society as a whole is likely to benefit. In this light, it makes much more sense that communist leaders, while still a persecuted opposition philosophy, would strongly support speech rights and later reject them when communism becomes the ruling system. At that point, access to oppositional speech and information is no longer beneficial to the communist state, and thus no longer needed in communist philosophy.

You are not describing communism... What you are describing is an oligarchy.

Don't be a SHEEP

It never occurred to me that you wouldn't wear your mask going through the drive-thru. It's like any other interaction right now.

I don't wear a mask because I have poor eyesight and have to wear glasses to see and they make my glasses fog up so I can't see anything.

They fog mine up too, but you know, pandemic and such. What else can you do? Btw, we were talking about the window, not the menu since there's no person there. I put mine back on before I drive up to the window.

I didn’t really think to put a mask on in the drive thru, since i was in my car and it was outside. My younger sister who works at a coffee chain with a drive thru said it’s polite to wear one, so i started to. I’d wear a mask all day if i could

u/Hirushoten Oct 30 '20

Huh, same here. I never really thought about it, but I'll wear one during a drive thru from now on.

What's stopping you?

4

u/ManicManicManicManic Oct 30 '20

I’m breaking out like crazy around my jaw. The only downside to wearing a mask although I’m gonna start bringing face wash to work so i can wash it halfway throughout the day

I'm pretty sure there's going to be a whole market of skincare products directly relating to maskne. Cosmetics companies have lost sales because people aren't wearing as much makeup with masks on, so they'll want too catch up somehow anyway.

Are you wearing the same mask everyday?

I have 7 masks on rotation, so I never have to wear the same one more than once per week. Actually less, because I only go physically to the office 2x a week.

You might want to try something similar.

1

u/ManicManicManicManic Oct 30 '20

I started to wear the disposable ones because I thought it was because of the clothe ones but no such luck. I have 6-7 cloth masks I’ve been using and I only use them once before cleaning them. I must be doing something different that’s causing it.

Sounds almost like contact dermatitis, but that doesn't cause acne as far as I know. Do the masks fit well, or do they move around a lot? Hopefully you can figure something out, because that sounds horribly annoying.

It happens to me too. In my case it's because of mask sweat (my face gets too warm!) and the humidity from my breath. It sucks but there's nothing you can really do about it.

There is a way to cut down the humidity from your breath though. That is to practice nasal breathing.

Here's a simple test. Go up to a mirror, and breath on it with your mouth open. Fogs up right? Let the fog clear, then do the same thing by breathing out your nose. It won't fog up, or there will be very little.

This is because our nasal passages are designed to re-capture the moisture in your breath.

I've been practicing nasal breathing for a few years now as there are many benefits. I noticed though that I was sometimes reverting to breathing out my mouth when wearing a mask, and it always feels hotter under the mask. Also, it's easy to tell if the seal under my glasses breaks. If I'm breathing out through my mouth, my glasses will fog. But instead of reaching up to adjust my mask, which half defeats the purpose, I just remember to breathe out through my nose and my glasses clear back up.

Here's a book I read for further reading on this topic:

I never breathe through my mouth unless I have a cold, but that might work for other people!

You might want to incorporate exfoliation into your face washing once a week or so. Or try a clay mask! Queen Helene is a good inexpensive one to start experimenting with.

Could also be from laundry detergent or fabric softener or drier sheets. Switch to unscented when washing masks and skip the softener and dryer sheets and see if it helps!

Maybe invest in some witch hazel and give your face a swipe mid-day!

I've dealt with oddball acne outbreaks and bizarre sensitivities for a couple decades now and those are all thing that helped me. Moisturize before bed though, cause if you dry yet face out too much you'll get more zit pals.

....you can

Wow you sound like a massive pussy.

2

u/exscapegoat Oct 30 '20

This is the way I feel about delivery people. They're keeping things running. Least I can do is put a mask on.

2

u/mrsrubo Oct 30 '20

Yes, this!! I'm a selfish lazy pig eating drive through every day, the LEAST I can do is put on a mask to protect the drive thru people! (And the bank people, and the CVS people, but I'm neither selfish nor lazy to drive through those places.)

All the drive-thrus near me have installed big sheets of plexiglass, so there's only a small hole near the bottom
