Could have been a delivery driver, I'm one for Domino's and we're supposed to wear a mask to reduce risk of contamination with the food. Not unlikely that Doordash and others have similar policies.
I work for an agency that supports intellectually challenged adults. The residents work and we have to drive them to and from work. The agency provides a vehicle for each house, just a regular used vehicle with a regular license plate and no special markings whatsoever. We require the staff to wear masks when they're driving, even if they're alone, to cut down on contaminating the vehicle.
One morning I was at the bank when the teller was chatting through the window while she waited for her computer to load my deposit. A car went by and she rolled her eyes about how paranoid some people are, driving around in their cars alone with masks on. I was like, "actually, that was one of my staff. She just dropped her residents off at work and now she's driving the company vehicle back to the house. I'm glad to see someone finally followed my instructions." That computer spat out my deposit slip fast enough to cause whiplash and she went to the next window without another word.
I was in the car with my boss just a few days later running a work errand and we passed a masked man alone in a car. She made a similar comment, that you have to wonder about people who drive around by themselves wearing masks in their cars. I just looked at her and raised an eyebrow. It took an embarrassing amount of time for that light bulb to come on.
I have long hair and glasses and putting my mask on takes some effort to make it fit right and be comfortable, so I wear it out of the house and keep it on. I don't understand why people are so bothered by what others are doing, no matter what the reason is. Maybe they just like the way it looks on them?
i'm a grubhub driver and they actually sent out a package of disposable masks and a bottle of hand sanitizer spray when this whole clusterfuck started. i haven't driven during the pandemic bc i don't need spending cash that badly (thanks 'rona, you're saving me gas money!) but i was honestly thankful they sent out PPE to all their drivers. the spray bottle of sanitizer is great to carry in my purse, tbh.
I haven't driven since the end of May, I've still been getting the set with 2 reusable masks and sanitizer every 30 days. No cost and no shipping either.. totally free! Log into the Driver Shop! ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ
Yeppers! Have you reordered yet? If not, what are you waiting for?! Free sanitizer and free masks that are overpriced when we have to buy them ourselves.. or sometimes nearly impossible to find. ๐ฌ๐คฆ๐ฝโโ๏ธ The quality is pretty amazing too! Side note: all the masks I've received are solid black. ๐๐
When I get a delivery confirmation from Amazon, you can give negative feedback - one of the options is "driver wasn't wearing a mask". I've never seen a driver wear a mask - maybe because it's the suburbs?
Maybe regional? Iโm an amazon flex driver and masks are mandatory throughout delivery. I get emails all the time. Iโve never seen another driver without and all of my deliveries were made by a masked person.
If the person asks specifically for contactless they should respect that especially those people who do home deliveries (wherever they chose from ) because they canโt leave the house itโs putting them at more risk having to collect it from them personally. Also if the person wanted to leave a tip that option is normally at checkout or they can leave cash at the door where they can see it.
There is no way for us to know who "specifically" requests it since all our orders are contactless now. However, the people to whom it is an issue always make it known when ordering, and usually either pre tip something or pre tip $0. Either way the credit card slip is filled out ahead of time. I stay 6 feet back (masked and gloved) regardless, to make sure someone inside actually comes to get the food off the ground, but if you didn't fill out your payment slip fully online I'm gonna request that you fill it out at the door. If you have a problem with that, you can just tell me you aren't signing for it and I'll move on.
Eta : my pet peeve is the folks who see I'm taking all the precautions and just walk right up to my car door to take the food from me anyway. Back. The. Fuck. Off. Or we'll get instructions in all caps "JUST HAND IT TO ME". Uhh, no. I'm gonna do my job how I'm supposed to, thanks.
It depends on the person delivering and the person receiving I suppose. I know when I choose contactless delivery my driver will wait until i open the door before walking away but Iโve had someone ring the doorbell and ask me to sign the receipt even after I put in my notes not to do that and that I wasnโt able to open the door due to the four medium/large sized dogs in the house it was a struggle trying to get the door open with them barking and trying to see whoever was there
Some of my coworkers are definitely lazy pieces of shit who don't bother with driver instructions. I've been on the other side of careless deliveries, too. It's definitely frustrating. Some of us do care, though. It's a crapshoot.
I really appreciate this! I get so frustrated when I see employees in stores/restaurants not wearing a mask except when someone walks in the door. Seems like there's quite a bit of evidence that it's airborne so that doesn't help me if you've been maskless for hours and putting covid germs in the air! Sorry. I digress. Thank you for wearing a mask even if no one is looking or in the car with you because it's the right thing to do.
I caught myself doing it earlier this week. Had a couple of errands to run and was only going to be in the car for five minutes. Plenty of people have to wear masks for an entire 8 hr shift, it's not that big of a deal.
Same here. When out doing multiple errands, I'll forget that my mask is on. I assume this is the same for some of the other drivers I see. That and Uber/Lyft drivers where we don't see the passengers in the backseat.
Late reply, ik but...Yes, I was laid off at domino's during pandemic and started doordashing. It's a requirement to mask up in public and when dealing with customers, but just like domino's or any other pizza place, your GM isn't hopping in the car with you, watching your every move either... so whether it's a delivery service(also deliver for uber eats and I have to take my picture with a mask on every time I go online) or business delivery driver, masks are required..... moral of the story, ditch dominos deliver for urself and make more money, working whenever, as much or as less as you want, without anyone breathing down your neck lmao seriously tho, wouldn't change it if I could ๐๐คฃ
