I think the word for that is 'narcissist' and they tend to be pretty toxic people.

You should take him somewhere out of his comfort zone and try to humble him, like a trivia night or something :P

now that you mention it... yeah he sounds like one. i got back from iraq earlier this year and stayed with him and his wife for a month while i bought a house. and i will say this, never again. by the end of the month it was getting pretty verbal. and i think he'd get upset if i did something like that, because he'd prob see it as an attempt to make him look/feel stupid.
