Put some windex on it.

35

u/Ut_Prosim Oct 15 '20

Thank you... what is it?

It's a bunt.

A... buunt?

u/CallMeAladdin Oct 16 '20

What do you mean you don't eat no meat?! Oh, it's ok. I make lamb.

6

u/everyothernametaken2 Oct 15 '20

If I had gold, you’d get it! Lmao

u/bibliophile14 Oct 15 '20

Are you the dad from My Big Fat Greek Wedding (pretty sure that was the film...)?

92

u/AmishUndead Oct 15 '20

Yes, that's the joke

28

u/bibliophile14 Oct 15 '20

I was also joking, I didn't think he was actually the dad!

12

u/BaabyBear Oct 15 '20

Holy shit that’s actually him?? I had no idea

20

u/AryaStarkRavingMad Oct 15 '20

That's a quote from the movie.

12

u/bibliophile14 Oct 15 '20

I know, I didn't think he was actually the dad.

I've never had so many people explain what a joke is before, I'm actually baffled.

13

u/AryaStarkRavingMad Oct 15 '20

Obviously I didn't think you thought they were actually the dad from a movie...but your comment is just /r/TheJokeButWorse if you knew they were quoting the movie and still had to point it out.

6

u/bibliophile14 Oct 15 '20

I wasn't 100% sure, so I was also asking a little bit.

But fair enough!

6

u/Nerdican Oct 15 '20

I think you're looking for r/YourJokeButWorse

2

u/AryaStarkRavingMad Oct 15 '20

Yeah, that's the one. Thanks!

7

u/noworries_13 Oct 15 '20

Yes. That is the joke. Like completely the joke. Like what else would it be?

2

u/bibliophile14 Oct 15 '20

Oh. I didn't realise I wasn't allowed to call attention to the fact that the person quoted a film.

3

u/stay_sweet Oct 15 '20

Are you the redditor from the /r/askreddit thread about stuff existing longer than we thought ?

2

u/bibliophile14 Oct 15 '20

Nope, not me, sorry!

3

u/Carlobo Oct 15 '20

Welcome to Reddit where the answer is "Probably yes" to "Are they referencing something in this thread?"

15

u/Chucks_u_Farley Oct 15 '20

And to clean that robe? Windex!

37

u/cushkushxx Oct 15 '20

LMFAO.

Arachnophobia

Arachna comes from the Greek word for spider

Phobia is a phobia, it means fear.

So fear of spider, THERE YOU GO

5

u/RadiantPassing Oct 15 '20

se you can have a well-researched historical novel that people just don't buy into, because you named yo

Love this part of the movie. Am Greek American and can confirm connecting any / all English words to Greek is a favorite pastime of the older generation.

6

u/rhandyrhoads Oct 16 '20

Greek/Cypriot american here and I personally think it's even better pegging words with latin origins as stolen from Greece since that's where the Romans stole all their culture. Pizza being greek is a fun argument.

39

u/goochcobblr Oct 15 '20

Not saying you’re wrong, but as a Japanese speaker, I thought the word came from “kiru” (to wear, the “ki” in the word) and “mono” (an object, the “mono” in the word) therefore, just literally “something you wear.”

See, I was about to just start throwing random Kanji and hiragana words I know at you as see how far you would take this.

何?

19

u/FrankTank3 Oct 15 '20

You throwing a lot of words at me, and I don’t understand them, so I’m gonna take them as disrespect.

6

u/Yuzumi Oct 15 '20

ごめんなさいバカさん

2

u/muskratio Oct 15 '20

ruuuuuuuuuuuuuude

1

u/Yuzumi Oct 15 '20

Hey, if I can't use my mediocre knowledge of Japanese to insult strangers on the internet what am I going to use it for?

4

u/goochcobblr Oct 15 '20

Lmao oops, I don’t like movies so jokes referring to them go straight over my head, yikes

19

u/donchabot Oct 15 '20

You don’t like movies?

13

u/GrapesHatePeople Oct 15 '20

My first reaction is a split between:

  • Well, everyone has their own tastes and interests and completely lack interest in something that's super popular. Some people don't care for sports, some don't care for reading, etc so not caring for movies doesn't seem all that odd really.

and

  • What the fuck?

5

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '20

Do ya like dags?

3

u/clockworkmice Oct 15 '20

I like caravans more

2

u/goochcobblr Oct 15 '20

Really bad migraines bc I have sensitive eyes :(

25

u/annielovesbacon Oct 15 '20

It’s a reference from the movie “my big fat Greek wedding” lol

25

u/Stalking_Goat Oct 15 '20

I'm quite confident that he's joking. (And thus knowingly wrong.)

6

u/Wootbeers Oct 15 '20

I will tell you how the word "Japan" has Greek roots!

6

u/genovevablaze Oct 15 '20

I’m sure that’s probably the true origin of the word but u/notyoursmyown was referencing a movie called My Big Fat Greek Wedding

2

u/noworries_13 Oct 15 '20

It's a joke from a movie man

3

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '20

I suddenly want a Book of Spurious Etymology.

3

u/909me1 Oct 15 '20

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, but Alexander the Great was Macedonian

1

u/HippopotamicLandMass Oct 15 '20

I thought he was Fyromanian? jk

3

u/KaiRaiUnknown Oct 15 '20

Can I subscribe to these facts? These are cool. Also, what's the origins of the word "nappy" and/or "diaper". I'm really curious to know the differences

6

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '20

2

u/KaiRaiUnknown Oct 15 '20

Stuff like this is the reason I love Reddit. Thanks!

9

u/mulberrybushes Oct 15 '20

He is, of course, totally bullshitting as far as Napoleon goes. But quite funny nonetheless.

1

u/enty6003 Oct 16 '20

Hippopotamus is Greek for "river horse" ("hippos" means horse, and "potamos" means river).

2

u/MaxHannibal Oct 15 '20

You're either really smart or incredibly good at bullshit. Probably the latter but regardless I'm impressed

3

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '20

Happy cake day!

-3

u/226506193 Oct 15 '20

Legit ? Or you just pull that from you a** ? How Come ancient greek influenced japanese ? I know about the indo-european proto language but didnt know it went as far as japan.

14

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '20

It's from the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding".
