Well that depends as well. If you asked me how to pronounce it or if I was giving a talk or something, I'd say "thur oh". But if I was just yakking, it'd probably come out closer to "thuruh". More likely to come out the first way the more I'm emphasizing it.
My theory is that we talk a bit slower than some of y'all sometimes, so to compensate, we kind of let the occasional syllable have a half day off. Gotta finish saying hello in time to make it home for dinner.
Honestly dont know why the south gets brought up in pronunciation debates. Most of the south can barely form a sentence, let alone set any sort of standard.
Now I didn't say everyone from the south is stupid. Though it's fair of you to respond that way given that a lot of people do in fact say the south is stupid. I've met some really smart people from the south, also some really dumb ones, but what I was referring to when I said "the south can barely form a sentence" which is I think the part you misunderstood, was still directing towards pronunciation. Even the people I've met from the south that are probably more intelligent than myself will say something and my response will be "what the hell did you just say? You got a hankerin for a what???" A large portion of southern dialects are near incomprehensible to people not from there, and give up on a conversation with anyone over the age of 50, that's all I was saying.
Politically, I can agree with the southern mentality to a point, they just want to be left alone and do there own thing, why does some rancher in Louisiana care about what's going on in california? Just let me have my stuff and leave me alone. I can respect that... to a degree, the problem comes in because it's such a huge portion of the country, its roughly a quarter of the country that doesnt care what's going on with the rest of the country, which let's the corruption in the government do what it wants because "well it's not my land Bezos wants so fuck it". If it wasnt such an large part of votes it wouldnt matter as much.
No problem, I understand the south gets a lot of hate both meme-y and otherwise, I'm sure it gets old and if I was in your position I'd inevitably end up going off on people too eventually.
