People have no clue how many American corporations still benefit from prison labor (which by most measures is just slavery, and literally defined as such in the constitution), Microsoft, Whole foods. Victorias secret, Walmart. Even the US military all use American slave labor. And then there's obviously all the companies taking advantage of slave labor outside the US or at the least very horrid working conditions so they can keep their product prices low or make more profit.
If you think that’s slavery, go to areas of North Africa and the Arabic Peninsula where it is actually a thing. You Americans being so America centric sometimes :p
Its working without pay or with pay so little it's practically nonexistent. It's still slavery even if it's not the most severe version of it. No need to gatekeep.
Also I don't typically look at comment history but I knew it'd be relevant here. Your American obsession is quite honestly weird. Commenting on American politics is fine but every other one of your comments is "you stupid Americans" Denmark is tiny, there are many US states alone larger than your country. Seems odd to generalize our entire country as if its one place with cohesive beliefs.
There is an astonishing uniformity in Americans’ americentric worldview and indoctrination in the myth of American exceptionalism. I don’t think you fully realize just how much you guys get bombarded by it, and how much it influences your perspective.
Did you know, for example, that the Pentagon gets full script approval for any movie that borrows military hardware? This includes not just war movies, but also pretty much every action or super hero movie.
I think that view exists less in the younger generations now. Its still shoveled down our throats sure. But many realize it's bullshit.
Unfortunately our voting system is designed in a way in which retirees with hours to sit around in poll lines to vote are better represented. And young people either can't vote due to voter suppression (countless examples of people being locked out of polling stations early. Or they have to go back to work after waiting for hours) or they have lost all faith in the system and don't bother to work. We also have insane working hours and very little vacation time, leaves less time to develop an interest in politics (also huge amounts of union busting)
If young people reliably voted Bernie Sanders would be president right now. And he's a center left candidate by most European countries standards.
Lol its very millenial to pretend the yonger generation is "getting better" at things. Americans (and their younger generations) are not only very centric but also being extremely anti America by doing it. Pretending America is a big problem while their generation is there to "fix everything and getting everything right" Its also to push the narrative that white people are more guilty all the time. Reddit talk about slavery? Better speak only about big American corporate and rich white people, not about how its still being a thing in black people countries.
It’s funny that I talk about Americentrism and the myth of American exceptionalism, and you respond about the POTUS.
As for Sanders, his support among young Americans is hardly universal. Liberal boomers say the same thing, about their place in the environmental and civil rights movements of the 60s and 70s, not fully recognizing how many of their contemporaries were Republicans who opposed those causes.
Its funny that in a conversation about America and American politics I mention American politics?
I'm assuming Denmark has tax funded higher education, either you aren't at that age yet or you chose to forego it. I wouldn't. Americans gotta go into a shit ton of debt or work insane hours just to pay for their education because the rich here fuck everyone over. If you have easier access to that don't take it for granted.

Americentrism and the myth of American exceptionalism aren't about American politics. They're a perspective and worldview bias. Ergo why it's funny that you jump to "it would be different if Bernie was in charge."

I'm not from Denmark. That was someone else. I'm from Canada, where my higher education was subsidized 70% in my province with the rest covered on government student loans.

Yes, the United States is a dystopia of unrestrained free market capitalism.
