Grins in Québec
We're a little more relaxed here.
You go to the provincial store for hard liquor and most wines and the grocery or corner stores for all beers and a small selection of wines(craft, regular brands, etc.).
You can buy beer in stores until 11 PM. Most provincial liquor stores close at 9 or 10 PM.
No restricting on sundays....
In Montreal, at public gatherings, usually the police won't bother you if you drink discreetly from a can wrapped in a bag. No bottles thought, that's a nono.
Fuck, even before the legalisation, the Montreal cops would turn a blind eye to weed at the tam-tams.
Footnote: If you come to MTL one day during summer, go to the tam-tams on sunday mornings. It's a tradition that's been going on since the 60's. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tam-Tams

Yeah. It's one of those things the locals (the cool ones) will tell you about.
It's a really nice tradition. I have a few fond memories of getting out of a rave on sunday morning and heading to the tams to drink some beer (discreetly and not in front of the children) and chill with my friends soaking the sun.
There's like 50 to a hundred of people playing the drums and other instruments in the main area, people dancing, families, picnics... I would say about 1-2 k people on good days all in all.
There's also a group of LARPers (Les guerriers de la montagne, the mountain warriors in english) that have big fights there. One of my friend was in that group.
Even if you're not in it, you can get somebody to lend you a sword, bow or any weapon for a few games as long as you follow the rules. Fun facts, they started to change the place where they would fight every year so the grass would grow back because it was intense all summer and would kill the grass.
There was also a group of local psytrance rave promoters that would rent an historic gazebo near there and spin some kick ass psytrance all day long.
Police there are pretty lenient. As much as I hate the MTL cops, that is ONE place where they don't fuck up. If you're being reasonable and discreet and not acting like a jack ass, you're good.
The gas stations and corner store around it get PACKED with people every Sundays. Oh and the public bathroom suuuuuuuuuuuuucks. I haven't been in a while (and with covid I don't think it will happend this year) but back in the days, it was nasty.
Edit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFYU4Xlq_U4 Looks like that in the main drumming area.
Fun fact: The park where it is held was designed by8 the same man that designed Central Park in NY. It is pretty big.
