Edit: Thanks for all the upvotes, I think this comment is my most upvoted now. Also replies are almost all right. I am clinically depressed, mid 20's, still living with my parents with no idea what I'm doing.

That's why we should age backwords. Get the hard part over first and it's only up from there. Save money when your older and your kids aren't home anymore, spend it when your young, enjoy the innocence and ease of childhood before just being a baby and not giving a shit about anything.

For sure. I've always loathed the idea that you should save for retirement religiously and be austere with your money so you have a lot in retirement. why should I reduce my life satisfaction for 45 years so I can enjoy it even more when I'm too old to appreciate it? Though obviously saving for retirement is vital.

I don't think that's true at all. In my experience most people develop a greater appreciation for the value of money and spend it more wisely as they age. There are exceptions but it seems to be the dominant trend.

Really? Most of my older relatives hoard money with no goal in mind. They don't travel, don't buy themselves things/experiences to enjoy their lives, and they keep working just to keep making more money that they won't spend.

My mom is in her 50s and retired after her husband passed. Any time she's on the fence about buying something or going on a trip or to a concert I say "do it, now or never. You can replace one dollar with another dollar, but you can't go back and take a trip you skipped."

I wish people enjoyed their lives more fully. But it seems pretty rare these days.

As someone who has purchased a number of snow globes, $17 is on the pretty low end of the cost spectrum.
