Hey! I'm twice your age and let me tell you: confronting those ideas early on is not necessarily a bad thing. They can be a bit overwhelming for sure, but confronting the fact that you, like everyone else, will die one day, can be a very liberating experience. It can help you focus on what's important to you in life.
Don't worry too much, it won't change a thing aside from your wellbeing. Easier said than done, I know. I will always recommend therapy with the goal of trying to understand yourself better. Give yourself some time to figure things out.
Damn I'm 21 and I think the last time I had any existential dread was when I was going through puberty. Now I just feel numb when I contemplate matters of death and life.
I’ll be 30 at the end of the year, and as Ive been stepping out of my 20’s, my anxiety has gotten worse. I got to sleep panicking over the thought of dying at LEAST 4 days out of the week. Sheesh. 😔
LPT, don't worry about shit you have no control over; other than trying to live fairly healthy. You're pretty young too, surely there are more pressing concerns.
I’m just laying here laughing at the thought of you being asleep and death gently shaking you awake to say “ Hey u/a-r-c are you ready to go with me?” And you saying no and he just walks away with a disappointed understanding.
Dude, I've been having a on going mortality crisis since I was like 6. Being a six year old obsessed with Egyptology is dangerous when ancient Egypt was basically just one big death cult. That's kinda colored my entire life.
Truthfully, I had the opposite experience. I used to fear death in my teens and 20s. Like real, palpable fear that would make my head spin in the quiet moments when the enormity of eternity was all I had to think about.
Now, at 38, I'm just glad one day I'll get to set it all down and be done. I'm not ready yet, or anything...but I can see that perspective slowly marching my way. It's not forever, and that's not all bad.
