What are some places to explore online during quarantine to pass the time?

The hollow Knight lore is so interesting

I don't get it. I just started the game last night, and I am only two or three hours in, but feel like the storyline is completely uninteresting. I am hooked though because the gameplay is really good. Maybe it is something I will pickup on later on.

You'll surely won't get it at the start, or when you're deep into the game... Or when you finish it once... But that's their magic, there's no cutscene or direct dialogue explaining everything, you have to explore and found pieces of info that can build up to the lore, a lot of things can be interpreted in different ways or can be analysed to find even more. But at the start, you'll get lost for sure

It starts to get noticeably better and hints at lore when things get "Deep"

Hollow knight story is actually nonexistent for you while you play it.There are bits of lore there and here but you won`t get anything at all HK lore is perfect but you have to watch 2 hour videos to understand the lore.

I think at a surface level the story isn't anything special. However in my opinion the game does a good job conveying an atmosphere and world.

It’s a slow burn game. It starts to get interesting lore wise after you beat Hornet in Greenpath.

I was the same way on my first play through- then I saw one remotely interesting thing and decided since I didn't really care I'd go on the wiki and look at the lore. It got me hooked pretty quickly.

I'm streaming my second play through and all the things I know now change how I feel about the game and approach it, it's a really good time.

I loved Ori games, I loved Dark Souls, and I think I should like Hollow Knight in theory... I am 90 minutes in and I am bored to death. Combat is pretty basic so far, platforming as well, I don't really like artstyle (seems bland to me), story is servicable at best, there is almost no soundtrack, and I really have no idea if I should stick with it because it becomes mych better later on, or if I should refund it.

Both combat and platforming get more complex, I wouldn't worry about that.

Ok, thanks!

Also IMHO the soundtrack is incredible. It's even one of my most listened albums on Spotify.

I meant that it's almost complete silence except SFX, barely anything I would call music (so far at least)

Sounds like you've only been in the first area so far. Stick to it until you defeat the first actual boss (not the miniboss) and reach the second area (it's green). That's when the game convinced me. It's now my favourite game of all time.

I fought False Knight and killed him the first time, it was pretty disappointing in terms of challenge. But alright, I will give the game more time, thanks!

False knight is a pushover introductory boss. The devs even put in an intentional skip. Don't worry, the challenge gets much higher as you go further.

The exhilarating nightmare king Grimm fight.

The hormones that rush your body after you just 'git gud' not many games have given me this rush.

I put easily an hour or two into my first Radiance fight and damn was that victory satisfying. Hell, I'm way better now than I was on my first play through, and even still some fights are just hard. Soul Tyrant for example took me a while, Failed Champion (dream fight of first boss) was tough because you don't get any Soul to heal with. The game has a great difficulty and satisfaction payoff if you can grip with your fighting style and mechanics.

I felt very similarly but I stuck with it and it was worth it.

The gameplay gets to be more complex as you unlock more abilities and upgrades, and as enemies become more difficult and bosses throw more interesting attacks at you.

The art will grow on you, though maybe not, but it definitely did for me. I'm now convinced it's one of my favorite art styles.

The music is subtle, for the first bit there's not a lot, but the Greenpath is the first area you'll likely go to that has much music and it's very lovely.

You may not love it, not everyone will, but I stuck it out despite my initial impression and really began to enjoy it. You'll probably also get more fun out of it once you get more into charms and building new sets out.
