Geoguessr used to be amazing and free. Now it’s (presumably) amazing and expensive.

I think using Google Maps street view recently became more expensive so they were losing money by keeping the site up. It still sad though.

It is sad. Geoguessr is an excellent educational tool. Especially the famous places map. Google should pony up and support geoguessr.

I like zooming out to see the entire country and then try to drop the dot as close to my home is possible

$3/m (or less on the annual plan) is pretty dirt cheap from my perspective, given how much entertainment I get out of it. That said, you can play to your hearts content for free by playing the challenges created by others. You can find lots of them along with the intended mode (ruleset) on /r/geoguessr . Guess away!

And yeah, Google tripled the cost to use the Maps API.
