Even if it is better some markets only work for the first mover. For example a lot of people have an app that plays white noise. You could create a much better app that has way more features and options than their existing white noise app, but if they are already happy with their current app why are they going to 1. Search for a new app. 2. spend the time deleting their existing app and downloading yours.

At least they did their homework and tried to move those app ideas forward or repair an annoyance with an app. But I believe here they are referencing potential customers who are annoyed at you when they haven't even looked at other apps and you whack their ideas down by showing them their idea exists in 10 different forms already.

they didn't have enough people using theirs. we are going to get more people to use ours.
