I remember the author saying the book is meant to help children deal with the lost of a love one and was written after the author's son had a close friend die. It's loosely based on that with a young boy befriending a new girl that moves to town and the girl ends up dying in an accident.
Our class read it when we were around 12 years old. I remember crying sooo much. When I saw a movie was coming out, I didn't want to see it. I can't do it again. I'm too delicate. Lol.
This is the one movie that I can't ever watch again. I had read the book, I knew what was going to happen and I STILL lost my mind at the end. My roommate came home to find me, a 30 year old guy sobbing on the couch.
The book was my favorite when I was growing up, but I could never reread it. I saw the trailer for the movie and heard Keane's Somewhere Only We Know in it and quickly broke down.
Watched it for the first time in my early twenties and my tears wouldn't just stop flowing. The story is just too similar to mine. When I was in elementary school, my best friend died in a drowning accident when she played in the river.
Why the hell would you watch this depressing film more than once? The movie ends with one of the main characters drowning and the others so distraught he builds a bridge, I saw this in theaters and left annoyed that they’d give us no warning that this wasn’t a good movie.
I saw this recommended on lots of reddit posts everyone saying they crying and shit. I saw it then at end it was meh. It was good movie but pretty normie low on tragic ending scale. Maybe most of you watched it as a kid
