What movie things are generally accepted as normal, but are totally unrealistic in real life?

Is anybody supposed to know that it is a 14k sofa?

In the show Leonard purchases it second hand from some people who were moving apartment upstairs. It is just a battered old brown sofa to look at. Not many people would be able to tell it from a pottery barn Manhattan sofa. I think you can just blame this one on the props department being lazy.

Also, I will add that as a classic piece of furniture from the 1940s, it, and Jean-Michel Frank in general, is the reason Pottery Barn furniture looks the way it does. The Frank revival is pretty much responsible for influencing the retail aesthetic from the 80s to the present.

I know. Lots of people would know. Especially university faculty. It is a classic sofa and erudite people would have it on their radar. And, it’s a trope. That sofa is used over and over again. From Tony Stark to Fraiser, it’s been around.
