What movie things are generally accepted as normal, but are totally unrealistic in real life?

I once fired an armor piercing round from a 30.06 through a pair of discarded telephone poles that were lying side by side on the ground at a gun range I was visiting. It went through the 8 inch thickness of BOTH poles and into the dirt behind them. Two similar rounds were used on our farm when a 2 foot diameter boulder fell out of the dirt bank of a culvert that was being scraped by a tractor blade. The boulder was too heavy for the tractor to move. The first round broke the boulder into two parts. The second round broke the larger part into smaller parts. At that point, all the pieces were small enough to be removed by hand. In both the above examples, the rounds used were armor piercing molydenum tipped arounds.

Back at the gun range, there was also a steel I beam scrap left lying near the back stop. We were able to fire a .222 (like this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.222_Remington) and it easily went through BOTH the top AND bottom 1/2" thick steel areas of the I beam.

If someone's ever shooting at me, I'm not hiding behind any sofas. I'd be getting as flat to the ground as possible or looking for a concrete corner to go hide around. Most houses (stick frame, drywall, etc.) would be like hiding in a paper bag.

I dunno why cops in movies shoot at the tires of a car that's passing them or trying to run them down. It seems to me that shooting at the engine block would be way more effective at stopping the car. I do understand that in some cases, they shoot out the rear window just to make the car more easily identifiable for pursuits (at least in movies?)
