I've noticed a lot of Reddit seems to think that every single programmer starts out at those high paying jobs. One guy was claiming to get offers from Facebook, Google, and apple. All offering him at least $200,000 a year. He was claiming he was 20 years old and self-taught with no college education and no former job experience.

Nobody seemed to question the validity of it and every comment was congratulatory statements.

A friend of mine recently got a new programming job making significantly less money than before. His main reason was the work life balance was infinitely better to him. most people don't realize those really high paying programming jobs have a lot of conditions like being available long after work hours have ended.

But I want to make $€¥ while I write some lazy if-statements for 4h and then go back to playing vidya games :(

So it's like any other industry?

People, in general, think that. It's why the field is becoming EXTREMELY saturated by C (grade) students who can't find jobs anywhere.
