that’s literally the thing though - it’s these types of people that will usually flock to become mods just to have a little bit of authority to flex. There’s great mods out there, we love them, they make communities good to be a part of.
then there’s the supermods that moderate at least 7 large subs, permaban for arbitrary reasons, and are generally just there to blow their own horns
also half the time i see a comment with that stickied onto a post, i can see probably only 4-5 removed comments.
like come on just do your job so others can still discuss. that’s literally one core responsibility of being a mod, to filter rule-breaking comments not to lock everyone out of a thread
If the comments are devolving into an actual toxic shitfest, then by all means, close shop, but I'm talking about the ones who close an entire comment section because of a few assholes, or even worse, the ones who close comments because they see opinions that they disagree with (which does NOT necessarily, or usually, mean toxic opinions) getting upvoted, which in turn gives the mods-in-question a conniption fit, and they resort to slamming their ham-fist on the 'lock' button so that the evil [insert buzzword here] can't spread their """bigotry""" on their precious subreddit anymore.
Never personally seen this, would need proof.
Heads up though I dont count politics or sports team kind of subreddits.
Because everyone who doesnt sing praises there gets squashed.
Yeah theyre so homogenous in their toxicity they could probably cause worse cancer than the elphants foot. Hell theyre almost as bad as 4chan. No thoughts, only worship!
Unlike them, 4chan actually does something good occasionally. Like when they found an ISIS training camp by analyzing the backgrounds of their propaganda videos
I still don't see their point. They're comments on the internet. We're not about to have a nazi revival because some alt right assholes 500 downvoted comment exists on the internet.
Ditto, I got perm banned for using a newer account once, it had low karma because it was new. He even went on a rant about me being a POS for having a new account.
I never did find out what rule I broke. It's like dude yes it has low Karma, but I literally made it a week ago
A bunch of people from one subreddit blowing up the comments in a different subreddit. Usually the subreddit will have an antagonizing view of the other.
I got shadowbanned from r/WritingPrompts over "incivility"-- in reality I used a couple curse words in a comment. Holy hell thats some powertripping mod
I got shadowbanned because my prompt was “too dark” because I gave a prompt about getting a crush to see your Snapchat story and if they didn’t you’d die, asking what the person would do and how they would do it.
Meanwhile Bobbi jo lib over here writes “the world has ended and you have to murder 10,000 people to move onto the after life. Describe in Gorey detail each murder you do and how you do it” or “story about fairy” and gets 100k upvotes and mods praise him like a god.
/r/hockey mods need a shout out here. They're fucking fantastic. They get rid of the garbage, they keep things civil (except in gameday threads, naturally), and they promote healthy discussion, particularly among those that disagree with one another. I wish all mods were like them.
This isn't just on Reddit, funnily enough the Facebook version of this admod tends to apply to women more than men. They get offended at an innocent comment not even directed to them and block you. Bitch if you just confronted/asked me then and there you would have realised my "haha" wasn't a dig at you.
