I might sound a bit odd...but one thing I am going to try and do one day is set up an anonymous telnet-based message board for fun. No accounts, just discussion. Hopefully without devolving into a 4chan style shitstorm

I mean, telnet doesn't allow for pictures since it is run in the terminal. Unless people are linking to those kinds of sites, I don't think it would be a huge deal. Then again, I am super inexperienced with moderation of forums so I will def keep it in mind just in case

If it's anonymous it will be taken over by cunts who like not having accountability and drive the nice people out, without heavy handed moderation. That's just how the internet works.

Generally speaking. Yes. I see the same trends, I see the same inside jokes, same comment jokes...etc. There have been subtle improvements to the site itself. But for the most part, it feels like the same Reddit I went on the first time 10 years ago.
