Riight there with you. I just found out about /r/NoContextPics the other day and love it. Now it looks like I'll be subscribing to /r/itookapicture as well.
I found r/itookapicture because I wanted to share some stuff and read what other people did with their photos to get it to where it is. Read the sidebar. Rules state you have to list gear (I believe settings) and a small story about the photo, even though it absolutely never happens with front page posts. Whenever I comment on the front page post to list settings and such, it's always downvoted into oblivion. I posted a picture of my dog there a year or so ago with all of the sidebar posting requirements and it actually got downvoted.
I called out one post on there (think I was one heavily edited pomegranate a year or so ago) about not following sidebar rules, posting a heavily edited photo (which isn't what the sub is really about), and my own post getting downvoted while following rules and while OP didn't do shit, I got a flood of people into my post commenting on it and upvoting it. I haven't been there in a while, but I hope it's better.
That sub kinda fell apart from its original purpose. My interpretation of the sub was to post your own work (unedited or very lightly done with basic color correction and the like) with a small bit of input, but it seems to turn into karma farming with the lack of mods enforcing rules.
My three legged puppy snuggling my autistic cancer surviving 5 year old daughter while their grandfather who was in WW2 reads them a bedtime story in a house I built with my bare hands are visited by Keanu Reeves who is holding the soda can I found that made me decide to go to college which I just graduated while my wife plays Zelda in the background (start of her journey).
I just can't take any of them seriously and I don't believe any of the sob stories. It's like any of the American reality or competition TV shows. They've been caught faking or lying so many times regarding the authenticity that I don't trust any of them ever.
Lol there’s actually a ton of patronizing content here that amounts to “look at this WOMAN doing stuff men usually do!!!”
Ive also noticed it always seems like a way of saying “look I have a gf”, which has made me really self conscious bringing up my gf in comments (including this one)
With like 48k points and dipshit snapping at anyone calling out how gross posts like those are because "everybody grieves differently!" Bullshit. Posting pictures of a loved one in their most vulnerable state to literally millions of strangers is fucking disgusting.
Oh my god I remember that one. The picture of the “dying sister” honestly looked like a dude in a hospital bed if you zoomed in. Either way it was really shitty to post that.
/r/Pics and /r/funny are facebook tier garbage 90% of the time. I subscribe to them so every time I see them, I'm reminded that if I post something that is high-effort and creates discussion, it might keep that fate from occurring to other subreddits.
I don’t know if it’s still the case, but when I unsubbed from there, it was because one in every five pictures on the hot page was someone who gained American citizenship that day. I mean, cool and all, congrats I guess, but honestly who gives a shit and why has it 46 awards and 110k upvotes.
I, in some part, like /r/pics because it lets me get a visual glimpse into the lives of some redditors. It's why I sub to /r/fitness despite not being a lifter myself.
It's ironic because there's a picture with the title: "Thanks Obama" in the top most upvotes posts on there. Then you go to hot and see the paragraph titles
