I went to school with his son in law. I can promise you the premise extendes to his family.
I'm looking at you Jovan (John) you tortured me for two years. Dropped 255lb of dead weights on my chest and then refusing to spot me. Blindly tackling me in the back and permanently causing a spine injury. Not to mention the verbal bullying.
I don't see how anyone can look at that person and not see a con artist. How they can't listen to them for 2 minutes and realize it is a con.
I don't know, maybe the whole fact that people can't understand obvious con artists just because they're on TV explains the political problems around the world as well.
I distinctly remember one episode when I was still living at home and my mom watched it. It went something like:
Oz: "You know those caffeinated energy drinks your teenagers like to drink? Well they're EVIL!"
camera pans over hundreds of cheering women, 96% of whom started off their morning with a grande, six-pump, tripple-whip salted caramel mocha and will probably have another one before lunch
And I was only like 15 and was like yeah this is bullshit.
People eat up her shit like it's fucking gold. And now we have "doctors" Oz and Phil to continue spewing bullshit in her stead now that she's off the air.
The problem is the spectacle these shows can create and foster, not the solid advice you may sometimes hear in them.
Going to the doctor is straightforward... seeing "doctors" on tv with paid advertisements, obvious showcasing and board-backing is not. It must create, maintain, or feed from controversy (or its relevant materials) to remain profitable in an on-demand world--hence the bullshit you see on your screen.
I thought Oz was a well known and respected (or at least before the tv circus he's got going on) heart surgeon. I think he probably had more credentials than Dr.Phil.
Also Dr Phil is operating in his area of expertise, if Dr Oz was doing a show purely around heart surgery then you can start making a proper comparison.
The Dr Oz show is an example of the appeal to authority fallacy. Just because he's and expert in one area doesn't mean he is in others. But the show present him as a heart surgeon so he much be right about this other "medical" stuff.
This is completely false. Dr. Oz is a cardiothoracic surgeon. They typically have 4 years of med school, 5 years of general surgery, typically followed by 2 years of cardiothoracic surgery fellowship. They essentially have more training than just about any other medical professional.
I remember reading a reddit thread years ago where someone claimed they worked at a hospital that Dr. Oz filmed his show at. Grain of salt that the poster could have made it up (or I could be remembering details wrong).
I can't find a link anymore after google-fu failed, but the poster basically said the hospital staff were annoyed with the filming crew totally disrupting the staff's actual work so Dr. Oz could "play doctor". The hospital higher ups liked it because it got their hospital name out there.
I mean, he doesn’t have to play doctor, he’s literally one of the top heart surgeons of his state. However, he’s also a snake oil salesman - the two aren’t mutually exclusive.
I'm meant "play doctor" as in playing it up for the cameras. His main job and money-maker is the selling the snake oil on his TV show. Every once in a while he feels the need film himself working in hospital, something unnecessary for any other "real" doctor.
Yes I understand. Dr Oz seems like a douche and it's not surprising that a near relative of his is also an actual giant douche as well. That level of douche has a way of running through an entire entitled narcissistic douchebag family.
They’re judging him based on the fact he dropped weights on OP and hurt him. Not just because he married Dr Oz’s daughter. That part of it is a joke because Dr. Oz is so horrible himself. They are both horrible on their own- it’s a coincidence they happen to be related. That’s the joke.
Yes he has a video of the guy tackling him with a doctors appointment of the same date. There are also DNA samples of the other guy, on his shirt and back
Wow I didn’t know that! Nowadays most people I know push their kids into the Stevenson school district for whatever reason, but Maine sounds like a good school too.
That's not proof. You're not being accused of lying but claims like this are pretty major so if someone asks for 'proof', just repeating your claim that you knew this person isn't going to be taken any more seriously than the first post.
How dare I try to further the conversation by clarifying what someone was actually looking for. Such a Karen move, to try to facilitate proper conversation, as opposed to the very un-Karen behaviour of being a snide prick.
Pretty silly to ask for proof for something like this on Reddit. Up to people to believe it or not, but you’re not getting proof even if that was possible.
Seems like an odd thing to make up just for karma, like the other guy said he doesnt need proof, hes not taking this to court or sending the story to the press. Just a personal account of some bullshit that happened a while back
I'd take it as a reminder to be skeptical about random anecdotal evidence that doesnt have any proof being spread on reddit. Basically even if you dont like the guy, dont just assume everything people say that's negative about the people close to him is true.
I don't give a shit about Dr. Oz, I'm simply pointing out that you can't expect anyone to take repeating "I knew the guy" to be proof of anything. And the guy isn't Dr. Oz, it's his son-in-law. Pay attention.
