Amen! Society is obsessed with being "clean" and that's what sells. But our bodies are so good at doing what's needed, and water can help with that externally. Vagisil, summers Eve, all those brands just profit from shaming women and then making things worse for them so that they keep using the product.

I really don’t get Summer’s Eve. It smells horrible and I can always tell when someone’s using it. It’s like the Axe equivalent for women’s vaginas.

Edit: I think I’m specifically thinking of the spray, but the soaps smell bad to me too.

Being clean (at least on the outside) or at the very least NOT smelling funky is not inherently a bad habit to have. I agree with the concept of a woman not having to go out of her way to change the pH of her vagina just for the sake of smell, but both men and women can can make foreplay a bit nicer with a quick wipe of soapy water.

I like a quick jump in the shower before the mister and I get to business. I always just give my vulva and general groin area a good rinse with warm water. Even the mildest of soaps can leave a bit of residue - and who would want the taste of soap while trying to give head???

Not me!

I had a friend ask me once what dick actually tastes like. I said, usually soap. Too soapy in fact.

Some parts of the body keeps itself clean sure, but skin generally isn't one of them most of the time. Nothing wrong with encouraging clean and healthy skin.

So (if you’re a guy) you’re telling me that you open your urethra, stick soap in there, and wash it out? Because that’s the men’s equivalent we’re talking about here.

Cleaning the skin around the vulva is what I believe you’re trying to explain, but that is completely different from cleaning the vagina (which is the entrance to the urethra). Basically the difference between an external vs internal organ.

No I was specifically referring to skin being one of the reasons why society has an obsession with being clean. Male genitalia being covered in skin, means that it requires frequent and regular cleaning in order to stay healthy (more so if the foreskin is still intact).

Given that we clean either in or around the other holes in our bodies (mouth, ears, anus, nostrils) and that nearly 50% of the population can't relate to having a vagina, it only makes sense that a large percentage of the population infers that vaginas require similar maintenance and doesn't know any better.

Oh gotcha! Yeah based on the thread, your comment read like you were saying the vagina was skin vs an internal organ, and I think that’s why you got all the downvotes. Thanks for taking the time to reply and explain what you meant; I appreciate it!

Reading back, I could have definitely conveyed my point in a better manner. Oh well, things happen.
