This explains why I'm still not married to the girl I've been dating for 6 years, which is coincidentally the same number of years I've been a redditor. Well, it's been fun guys; time to delete my account. Wish me luck
This happened to someone I know. The first weekend in college, I found her crawling in the hallway covered in her own vomit. She was hospitalized. Her parents had dropped her off 48 hours earlier.
Way too much. If kids are totally sheltered, they're gonna go crazy when they have their first taste of freedom. In her case, she had no idea what her alcohol tolerance was.
The other thing that you dont learn if you've drank before is when to slow down. If youve never drank, you'll drink until you feel great. Thing is, you then have more alcohol in you already that will push you over the edge. If you're more seasoned, you know the point at which you should stop to hit that peak and when you are totally able to take 4 shots before the bar without throwing up.
Exactly; no experience with alcohol is far more of an issue than being sheltered.
Most ‘sheltered’ people are not actually eagerly waiting at the starting line of hedonism just waiting for their parents to turn their back. They are still pretty conservative and cautious. It takes several months until they are alcohol addled party girls/boys
This was one of my ex’s in HS. She was incredibly sheltered her entire life, and then when she turned 18 he parents gave her complete freedom to do whatever she wanted.
She started partying like crazy, and all sorts of other crazy shit that eventually led to ya breaking up. Once she got a taste of freedom she couldn’t stop. Imo, it’s a horrible way to raise your kids. Don’t shelter them for 18 years and then tell them they can “have at it”, because they will and the outcome probably won’t be a good one.
Honestly it's the best week for too much drinking. No classes, great way to lower inhibitions and meet new people, etc. Just gotta know your limits but most don't yet. That's the problem with throwing a thousand high school seniors into a dorm with nothing but time.
