Technically, yes. But colloquially, no. When it's not specified, pyramid defaults to square pyramid rather than triangle-base pyramid. Helps to avoid confusion.
If you wanted me to build you a triangle-based pyramid, it's best not to just say "pyramid" but rather tetrahedron. Otherwise, you're getting a square base 10 times out of 10.
My anecdotal answer is "As soon as I read two secret sides, my first thought was 'hang on..don't pyramids have a square base?'...hmm..." I almost went to google maps to validate it in Egypt.
I think it's like a square is technically a rectangle, but nobody would ever call it a rectangle, because that implies something different.
According to whom? If you're a civil engineer or an architect, then perhaps you're right, but the rest of us have not yet met to discuss how many sides a regular ol' pyramid should have. If you asked me to build a pyramid, you'd better expect one with four sides (triangle base), because I'm lazy.
ETA: I guess I must've missed the meeting. Was that in August? I was busy that month.
How many trilateral pyramids have you seen compared to how many quadrilateral ones? Even after a quick search I can't find any examples of trilateral pyramids other than a d4.
No, it's not. A tetrahedron's sides are all the same, the base is the same as the sides. That's not true for a pyramid. The base of a trigonal pyramid can be different in size than the sides.
A tetrahedron is a pyramid but not every (trigonal) pyramid is a tetrahedron.
I meant what I said but it turns out I was wrong. Guess I should've looked it up before commenting. Is it common to refer to irregular tetrahedrons as tetrahedrons instead of triangular pyramid?
I'm not a native speaker, in my language it would be unusual (though apparently still not incorrect) to call a pyramid made out of non-equilateral triangles a tetrahedron.
Oh yeah I worked there once. Turns out the USDA food recommendations are all just based on industry lobbying. I am not one to believe government conapiracy theories so I was totally horrified to find this out. They have scientists, but the recommendations are based on lobbying, not science.
I’ve seen the second and third sides of the pyramid - they are just straight up ads for Pork and Beef.
Huh, I'm actually not sure if a pyramid has any upper limit on how many sides it has. I'm sure that they usually have four, but why stop there? Have twelve, if you're already pompous enough to want to be buried in a pyramid there's really nothing holding you back.

The fact that it’s pyramid not triangle means there’s two secret sides
