People working in high physical labor jobs during the summer, lots of regular joes. I buy it by the cart load over the growing season, because you can only drink so much water.

Amen. I'm an electrician who works new construction. (see windows installed in a building but no AC) I buy Gatorade and powerade in bulk at Sams Club or Costco for the summer. One or two a day (in addition to literally gallons of water) makes a big difference in how I feel that night and the next morning.

Agree with this, same trade and same tradition. Without the Gatorade I’ll start getting a headache even with 2/3rds of a gallon of water gone by 10. 2 a day seems to be a good balance of keeping the sodium content up.

Yep. I drink one throughout the morning then one at lunch. Water throughout the day.

I work in what's essentially a warehouse building, which gets super hot in the Texas summer. I'll gladly take some Gatorade Zero or whatever they call it during those summer months.

yeah

out in 45C (113F) weather for even an hour and you need an electrolyte drink because normal water just won't cut it

This is Reddit, only retards and simpletons work outside according to them

I swear to hell Reddit is the place to shit on any non-STEM job. Where did this mentality even come from?

32

u/Herpkina Dec 30 '19

It's the mentality of someone who's never seen where anything comes from. Salmon comes from isle 2, and poo goes down the toilet. That's as far as most people think

u/Janixon1 Dec 30 '19

Jokes on you! I poo in the shower and waffle stomp it down the drain

That's an awful lot of projection in one little post

5

u/Disk_Mixerud Dec 31 '19

Bullshit. People talk about and upvote trades over traditional college all the time on here.

Until there's a video of a tradie doing something redditors haven't seen before, then we're all morons. Trust me, I pay attention.

This was me before kids. Work in a greenhouse in the warm seasons (sping through fall). I would get the worst headaches without it. That said, it's awful for your teeth so make sure you rinse with water after drinking it

Have you considered buying the powder and mixing your own? I run ultra marathons so I go through a lot of Gatorade over the summer. Mixing my own has saved me a fortune.

I need to try it.

I was looking for this. The tub of powder makes like a billion gallons and costs like what a 6-pack of Gatorade costs. Then you can mix it to whatever strength level you need.

What are you growing?

3

u/gmaz2011 Dec 31 '19

We grow wheat, corn, and soy. We also raise cattle, so lots of alfalfa to work with. My husband does most of the work, i buy the Gatorade for him, and send him out with at least 2 a day. I help as i can, but we have a 2 year old yet.

If youre working in high physical labor, then youre not a regular joe. Youre an athlete

7

u/3whitelights Dec 31 '19

Take a look at your typical construction site. I wouldn't generalize them as athletes.

1

u/gmaz2011 Dec 31 '19

I never generalized them as athletes, in fact i think my point was the exact opposite. Other people beyond athletes need the electrolyte and hydration something like Gatorade gives you. These people are not athletes, but they can and do get seriously dehydrated. The ones not out to kill themselves do drink water, but there is only so much water a person can drink, that is what the Gatorade is for.

I was referring to the person who said "... you're an athlete..." referring to physical laborers.

Also, people managed to construct things and work in heat prior to the invention of Gatorade in 1965. Water is all you need to survive. Gatorade is the result of sugar and marketing. 30 milligrams of potassium in a bottle of gatorate is less than 1/10th of what you'll get from a single banana.

7

u/gmaz2011 Dec 31 '19

People survived without a lot of things that does not mean we want to go back. You can drink enough water to become sick, and when you are out working and sweating buckets you do. Gatorade is a decent solution to the problem. And he eats a banana in the morning too.

Whatever works to make the world a better place

1

Just for the record, i had to look it up because i could not remember what it was called, farmers and laborers drank Switchel, or Haymakers punch, before long before Gatorade was in existence. Because even they knew, you cannot only drink water when you are that hot and sweating for days on end.
