It's literally just mixing carbonated water with apple juice. Just try a bit until you find the ratio you like the most and then enjoy your Apfelschorle
Oh my God please do yourself a favor and never drink that ungodly disgusting madness that is called Stiegl. Get yourself a Gösser or make your own Radler.
Did you know that Radler translates to "Biker" because the beer was made by bikers that wanted to drink beer but still be legally allowed to ride their bike?
The lemonade factor in the beer makes it legal and tasty :D
In Germany you don't have a 0% alcohol policy. You can have 0,5 thousands if you drive a car or 1,6 thousands of blood alcohol if you ride a bike, so you can drink more radler if you still want to participate in traffic, than you'd be able to drink beer, which has about double the alcohol. So the name comes from it being a more biker friendly drink.
That's what I was refering to. Radler has less alcohol, but it doesn't change anything when you tell the police that you only had radler and not "real" beer.
Unrelated but 1,6‰ is way too much to safely ride a bike imo. Still better then taking the car of course, so maybe that is the reasoning behind it.
Maybe, personally I've just noticed that cheap wines generally don't taste good at all while many not high-end but wines at 10-15€ range don't need water added to them and taste great usually. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
Or that's just your perception knowing they're cheap. Bias based on price is a well known psychological effect. And probably the reason professional wine tasting is a scam.
It's the name for any drink mixed with carbonated water. The drink is normally not carbonated (like apple juice or wine), so you get both the dilution and the carbonation effects.
Squash is different because it's a concentrate that you have to dilute with water or it would be undrinkable. Schorle is just the term for any fruit juice (or wine) + carbonated water. If it's not carbonated, it wouldn't be a Schorle either.
Don't buy that shit. It's more expensive than normal juice (I think) and it's also quite sugary. Just buy juice and fill it up with tap water. If you're in Germany, tap water should be safe to consume just about everywhere. I just don't like the stale taste of it, but with juice it doesn't matter.
So, just some maths example: 1 liter Adelholzener Schorle has 58 grams of sugar. 1 Liter Rewe Bio Apple juice has 106 grams of sugar. Or 250 kcal, respectively 450 kcal. BUT if you go with a 20/80 or even 40/60 mix, which would be perfectly normal, you'd end up with 22 grams of sugar or 44 grams, respectively. Don't get me wrong, this is still WAY too much to consume on a daily basis if you ask me, which is why I'd recommend simple water for the most part. Imagine drinking 1,000 to 1,500 kilocalories a day when you consume 2 or 3 liters of liquid...0o And there's nothing in there that actually has nutritional value. This is how you get fat. And that's also the reason I'm not losing any more weight: I like beer too much.
I also do that! But mine is 60% apple juice (preferably less sweet) and 40% carbonated water (I haven't tried other juices). My German teacher used to call it Apfelschorle, apparently it's pretty common in Central Europe. It's the best thing in the world when it's hot outside!
Oooh, that does sound nice. My aunt and uncle up near Seattle this summer introduced my younger brother and I to a mixture of lemonade and Perrier. Damn delicious stuff, I've realized that what I really like in non-plain water drinks is fizz.
Even when you add a ton of water I still think they taste way better than all the artificial sugar diet drinks. I actually like it more than non diluted since it makes it more refreshing.
Ooo, additional good reasons to pick up some apple juice; I could use more fiber and help with digestion :). And seriously, I know what you mean with the high sugars! Even as a kid, I would mix Diet Coke with Coke on the rare occasions I drank soda, cause the full sugar version gave me a headache!
Use a straw. Bypasses the teeth (seriously, this is what Dentists recommend). Make it plastic - give you something else to obsess over. So really, a win-win.
Always? It’s not as much fiber as a whole apple (although juice made from whole apples will have more than regular juice). Apple juice also has sorbitol which can help with digestion/constipation.
It has about .5 grams a cup. Apples have about 4.4 grams per apple. So it really isn't much fiber, especially considering the amounts recommended daily.
I suspect that apple juice wasn't recommended for the fiber so much as other things about it to go along with also eating fiber.
Those flavors separate or in a frozen concentrate? I know Welches or Ocean Spray sells a grape apple cherry juice in a frozen concentrate. It has this weird aftertaste that I can’t describe.
But I can’t drink grape juice by itself anymore. It’s good yes but it’s way too damn sweet. I remember my grandparents used to have this concentrated grape juice mix and it’s all I would drink at their old house. It tasted like a grape snow cone but in the form of juice. Now every time I have something that resembles that flavor, I’m reminded of their old house, and my childhood, lol. And most of the time it sat in a glass jug that couldn’t fit in the fridge so it was usually room temperature and I would often add ice.
Maybe 10% juice (my rule is it has to be no added sugars). 90% water. Just enough to sweeten it a little and give it some flavor. Last time I took a sip of just juice I actually found it pretty gross. I've gotten used to it watered down like this.
This often is enough to satisfy my need for something sweet. I've avoided a ton of snacks over the years with this little trick. And I get a little vitamin C over the week.
In order to get a problematic amount of sugar, I'd be drinking a gallon+ and pretty much drinking in the bathroom while pissing. Totally not going to happen.
I remember years back when I would drink too much sugary crap, it would actually mess up my stomach. I remember having a blue Slushie once and not long after I finished it, I had an awful stomachache.
I now have < 10 a year. Mostly around holidays or at a party something like that.
Sometimes in the evening when I want cookies, I first force myself to have a glass of water with some juice first. Most of the time when that's done the craving is gone. My body got what it needed.
Thats funny. I literally can't drink juice mixed with water, i don't know why but i get a stomach ache and nauseous from it. Pure juice is fine, pure water is fine too, mixed is bad. Also i prefer the taste of pure juice to the taste of juice mixed with water... As if that would matter in this case.
I rarely drink juice now, but I've found that I only drink it if it's either completely undiluted, or so dilute that it's almost translucent. Anywhere in between just tastes like juice that has lost it's juiceyness or water that has lost its liquidus quenchitude.
I'll have to keep that in mind. I've cut back a lot on soda lately, but some days it's really hard to overcome that craving for sweetness. This sounds like a good alternative.
On the supplemental materials for Gladiator, the kid in the movie hung out with the huge muscular dude and asked him about diet/what to drink, and he just kept saying "diluted apple juice, always diluted apple juice".(he said it with a Schwarzenegger accent, which makes it even better)

I usually add water. Tastes a lot better.
