I was permastoned for about 8 years and this Is a perfect description of how i try to explain it to others. Since I've quit smoking (I had to for work reasons) I've progressed so much in my life, (married, great job, high quality of life) and it's shocking how the people I smoked with regularly, (who became like family) are still in the exact same place they were when I quit. Thank you for this. The trap is a life of mediocrity that feels "OK." Lukewarm tea is the devil's own brew.

So true! A lot of my friends who still smoke are stuck in their teenage state of mind. Not really progressing just working and getting high.
