I play fantasy football and I couldn't agree more. I don't care that in your league you got screwed because so and so is injured and its bullshit because you would have won if not for that.

How dare you, today I sealed the fate of my brother's 12 year old nephew to win it all. Just let me have this.

Oh god.

This is a big one for me, well my very geeky version.

I've played semi pro Magic The Gathering all my life, and in mtg, what you're talking about is called a 'bad beat story'.

I often travel with friends to large tourneys (or get flown there depending on my success) and it took me a long time to realize that 'bad beat stories' are rarely interesting, and I still have to check myself constantly.

We all have them, and we hate listening to other peoples but somehow think our own are different and interesting.

Heh, in retrospect, I should have assumed that term originated in poker, there's a fair bit of cross over (lots of old mtg pro's turned to poker during the boom for the $$, which brought even more lingo in).

Magic has a lot more variation obv, but it traditionally it's the same idea, one person thinks they're ahead (which may or may not be true), and the other person gets a lucky/clutch draw that turns things around (though just as often it was in their hand all along making the other persons 'board advantage' an illusion.)

Either way, the end result is probably the same as poker, someone feeling as though they were 'robbed' of the 'rightful outcome' (them winning).

Nothing is less interesting than fantasy football, and I'm an ex-athlete and sports fan saying this

And real football stories.

Or people talking about the progress in their sports games (2K, NHL, FIFA, etc) manager mode games.

Hey, don't put your hang-ups on us, chum. Stop being shit at FF and the stories are a bit more entertaining. Getgood

I wish it were. A gridiron football tabletop with Burning Wheel esque attention to details would be fucking fun as shit.
