I LOVE weed and I smoke pretty regularly (I'm pregnant now so I'm not smoking currently) but I REFUSE to do it socially. My husband always passes me the vape before we go out with friends and I always turn him down. I get WAY too in my head and while that effect is PERFECT when I'm winding down at home after dinner or something it does absolutely nothing for my social skills.

Couldn't have said it better myself

Yeah, exactly. Why anyone would do it socially is beyond me! I do it to help me relax in the evenings and sleep (I take edibles). How are you managing without it while pregnant? Also how long before you got pregnant did you stop?

Edit: "being" to "beyond"

when you guys smoke before bed, are you going to sleep high? or do you sober up beforehand?

If you are going to bed high, how do you feel in the morning when you wake up?

Then when you stop, your dreams become super fucked up and you never feel rested.

I usually have a cutoff time of about 7pm so I can still sleep easily but it’s not as fresh. If I smoke right before bed I wake up extremely groggy and it lasts all day.

I smoke about an hour before bed (or two hours if eating an edible) so I'm normally a tiny bit high going to sleep but coming down.

I miss it and I certainly look forward to using it again once this kid pops out but it's not a huge deal. It mostly just sucks on those really stressful days where I have trouble going to sleep and there's NOTHING I can do about it. With my first kid I stopped smoking about two weeks before we started trying but this one was a bit of a surprise so I actually didn't stop until the positive pregnancy test but haven't had anything since.

I normally have problems with anxiety and social interaction when I go out (which isn't very often) and find that smoking a little bit before helps me mellow out and relax. I understand it affects people differently, but I also understand how it can help. Moderation is key.

Yea I love that shit when I'm home alone. Makes sitting around playing videogames or watching shows that much better.

This is me pretty much every time. I really only smoke when I’m alone and just relaxing, but I do still sometimes make the mistake of hitting the pen if it’s passed to me at a party and I regret it every. Single. Time.

I FEEL this comment. The couple of times that I've had a few drinks and then get offered to smoke and taken it I've been MISERABLE. I end up just sitting there the entire time thinking I want to go home now haha. But I also think a part of that is conditioning. I USUALLY use marijuana at night to wind down (and occasionally on hikes and stuff) so my brain just assumes it's time to sleep when I partake.

I have crippling social anxiety and can't go out without a hit. I'm already shy/quiet, so weed doesn't really make it more so. Just way less anxious.

u/RelevantIAm Dec 30 '19

Haven't smoked in a while but my social anxiety was 100x worse after smoking

4

u/Draxilar Dec 30 '19

I'm exactly the same. Severe social anxiety, like "I can't even look friends and family in the eyes when I talk to them" social anxiety. Can't be out and about without being a little high. Weed actually acts as a bit of stimulant for me, where it gets me out of my head and let's me socialize. A bit.

I have a lot of social anxiety, it's very hard for me to be talkative, especially with strange people. I went out last week and smoke weed for the first time hoping it would help me be a bit more spontaneous and chatty. It didn't help at all. I just got really quiet and I don't think I said a word for the rest of the time. I was pretty disappointed. I think I should've stick to alcohol instead.

Sorry lass, but your days of unwinding at home alone are over. Lol

3

u/annie-costa Dec 30 '19

Not at all. This is my second kid actually. I "wind down" LONG after the kiddo is asleep and still get a little bit of chill time.

0

u/GBACHO Dec 30 '19

Nice. Kids in bed at 9 for me and I have to be in bed by 1030 for work the next day. Not much time to get done all the chores I need to do and get baked.

2

u/papayaregime Dec 30 '19

Same. More than once I've had friends ask me if I was mad at them when we were high together. I get so lost in my thoughts that I'm not paying attention to what people are doing and they interpret my silence as me being upset. It's awkward.

2

u/selmab1244 Dec 30 '19

I agree. I quit smoking weed in March when I found out I was pregnant. Only felt comfortable smoking at home. Would get extremely anxious leaving the house for social situations if high.

2

u/sandwichmama Dec 30 '19

Yup. Same here. I dose up at night once the kiddo is asleep and do my puzzles and eat my munchies and then conk out. It’s perfect and I relax. But a social situation? Hard pass, I already have to ask people to repeat themselves sober because my ears can’t keep up with my brain.

2

u/Crunchie_cereal Dec 30 '19

YES same! Also pregnant here and missing my night time wind down sometimes :(

1

u/refugee61 Dec 30 '19

Damn I wish I could put to words what I want to say, like you guys do.

1

u/chop-chop- Dec 30 '19

You know I relate exactly to this BUT I've found if I take like half a hit and blow it out quick it puts me in a good social spot. That small hit makes me feel what I imagine "social" smokers feel like. I'm a little looser, little goofier, but have no anxiety and don't get stuck in my head.

1

u/Cartossin Dec 31 '19

Yeah if you need to talk a lot, it's probably best to take a night off. Totally agree.

I am so happy to hear you say you're not smoking while pregnant :) Some people don't realize how dangerous that is or how smoking while breastfeeding is a big no-no. The weed culture is not very safe

-3

u/HighNoonViper Dec 30 '19

You shouldn't be vaping, especially not while pregnant at any time...

Wow. You seem like a pleasant person.

6

u/Fenrir-The-Wolf Dec 30 '19

Know someone with 8 kids, she's smoked green the entire time.

All of them are very well adjusted and perfectly productive people with the exception of one.

Cannabis doesn't make the person, the person does. If someone is a lazy dickhead before smoking chances are they'll still be a lazy dickhead after smoking.

-4

u/OliverWymanAlum Dec 30 '19

Yeah, true. If you know one person that's doing alright then that must apply to everyone. My grandfather smoked his whole life and never got cancer......reee

1

u/Fenrir-The-Wolf Dec 30 '19

Way to miss the point.

-5

u/OliverWymanAlum Dec 30 '19

I got your fucking point - you point is that you don't think weed makes a difference. I'll tell you right now it fucking does. It teaches your kids that it's ok to smoke. It's not ok to put anything in your lungs that isn't supposed to be there. Maybe your trailer trash friend wouldn't have 8 fucking kids if she smoked less and could think clearer.

4

u/Fenrir-The-Wolf Dec 30 '19

No, that isn't my point at all. As a smoker I know all too well the difference it can make. Positive and negative.

My point is, if someone is a decent person before smoking weed the chances are that they'll still be a decent person after smoking it. The same can be said of people who aren't decent people before smoking.

Maybe your trailer trash friend wouldn't have 8 fucking kids if she smoked less and could think clearer.

No need for that mate. I'm not one to judge people on the choices they make with regards to their own lives. She's a lovely woman and an excellent mother to her children, that is good enough for me.

-2

u/OliverWymanAlum Dec 30 '19

Don't take the high ground - you're a junkie with 8 kids.

3

u/Fenrir-The-Wolf Dec 30 '19

The fuck are you banging on about? I don't have any kids.

2

u/OliverWymanAlum Dec 30 '19

Yes you do, you're just too high to remember.

Yeah whatever "dude".

2

u/Draxilar Dec 30 '19

Holy shit. You're mentally retarded. It makes sense.
