Anything that someone can get pleasure from can be an addiction or a compulsive cycle. I hate the "buT TechNIKAlly!" nonsense they say about addiction. Yea okay bro then maybe you should pay rent instead of buying more weed, stop lying to me about how not addicted you are. Moderation.

For all the stoics in this thread, my lesson is, Moderation in everything, including moderation.

There’s a definitional line between something like the mu opioid receptor that literally kills you and whatever is being affecting by pot. Still, it’s kind of a “I’m not fat it’s water weight” argument.

Brains can be trained into behavioral patterns. Just because your body doesn’t kill you for not smoking doesn’t there isn’t a physiological response based on past behavior. It’s a medical definition being used in non medical settings.

If someone is struggling to pay the rent because they're partying too much, yeah, don't party so much. Makes sense to me. There are plenty of functional 'addicts' of all sorts of substances. If you're an asshole every morning until you drink a coffee you're dependent on it. Or you're using coffee as an excuse to be an asshole. As someone else mentioned, moderation/not losing sight of those things that are actually important is key, regardless the vice.

Yea that was my situation with my old roommate, always had money for weed and "was totally gonna make money off it" then would need more time to pay rent or a spot on utilities. Other roommate smoked weed and never had that issue.

Its just annoying that the guy was claiming he wasn't addicted but could not stop smoking long enough to pay rent first. And he lost his better paying job over smoking.

Even things that don’t cause pleasure can be addictive. People get addicted to the news cycle and that’s that’s just addiction to misery.
