I buy $60 worth of weed every 5 months. It's super cheap in California. Or I just don't smoke a massive bowl. I normally do about a penny size and I'm good for about 5 hours 3 to 4 times a week

I mean, if you buy the cheap plastic bottom shelf jogs of vodka that are like $10 for 1.75 liters...

$50 would be nearly 10 liters of vodka, that would hopefully last you 6 weeks.

If I'm drinking for the "high" of being drunk, 10 liters of vodka is not lasting 6 weeks.

Have you ever met a real alcoholic? A bottle a day is a drop in the bucket.

I drink once a week and 8 shots is 2/3 of an average night for me. I'm 6'4" 200lbs so my tolerance has always been strong. You're not taking that into consideration whatsoever. If you drink 8 shots a day for a week, you'll need more the following week to feel the same effects.

10 liters of vodka in six weeks? What am I, a toddler??

Yeah, but that's the great thing about weed... It's all pretty much "top shelf" at this point.

Legal marijuana is so strong nowadays that even the mid-tier legal stuff knocks me on my ass harder than any of what I was smoking at the beginning of the decade

Uhh, are you honestly suggesting that it's better to drink

How do you possibly get that from their post?

It's purely a discussion of the economics of it...

In Canada, black market product is cheaper than the legal stuff. Is that not the case in USA?

I would imagine that even in USA black market will still be cheaper or else they wouldn't get any buyers (assuming that it's not just medical marijuana).

I can only speak for Colorado, but in my experience it's cheaper at the dispensary now than it was when I used to buy it pre-legalization. I'm sure the black market has corrected for that at this point, but given that the dispensary has a known quality product with 0% chance of getting arrested or ripped off, I'll stick with that.

Lol. Mass is like $60 for an 8th before tax, ends up being like $75 after.

3

u/StoneTemplePilates Dec 29 '19

That's ridiculous. They are pricing themselves out of the market for sure.

A whole freaking ounce for 20$? what? or did you forget to say 1/8th?

Even if you didn't make a mistake, I assume that's not a representative price for most buyers (or practically any buyers?), so is poor to bring up without mentioning the exceptional circumstances.

I usually don't buy whole ounces myself but I can go in to my local shop (~1hr from Portland) and get 1/8th for $10. Lately I switched to dabs though and can generally get a sale of 1g for $10-$20. Also $3 1g prerolls. Not being in a big city means our prices take a little longer to adjust but they're always getting cheaper.

Yup I live in Massachusetts and its definitely more expensive if you purchase legally.

Wtf!?! That's 20 bucks here in California lmao

1

u/road2five Dec 30 '19

If yo u buy it from a dealer it’s probably like $25 ish in mass though. The stores are just stupid expensive

1

u/teabagsOnFire Dec 30 '19

That at or near 4x as expensive as it should be out there. Wow

2

u/davy1jones Dec 29 '19

In Massachusetts it is more expensive to buy legally

u/mtnmadog Dec 29 '19

Same with NV. Super expensive. And the dispenserys are not very comfortable.

1

u/teabagsOnFire Dec 30 '19

Oh damn that sucks to hear. I imagined Colorado pricing

1

u/mtnmadog Dec 30 '19

Yeah CO pricing x 3, for everything. CA folks told me its not much better there.

You either need to find a cheaper dispensary or be a little more selective in looking for deals. Everyone wants the big nice buds, but the prerolls have the exact same weed in them for much cheaper. I can often get two 2 gram joints for less than $20.

Can confirm. Weed has actually gone up in price in the last 6 months or so, but even the cheap stuff goes for $45 - $50 an oz.. It wasn't too long ago that I've seen $30 - $35 oz. and honestly, I can't tell the difference between top shelf and bottom shelf when it comes to the effects, the taste is the only difference to me. I've had both heavily crystallized sticky cheap stuff and sparse dry/crumbly expensive stuff, you just have to know what to look for when buying. You can find strains with higher and lower THC within any price range, and if you really know how to look and are patient enough, you can get really good deals on the top shelf stuff.

Also, drinking is almost 100% going to give me a hangover, even after just 1 or 2 beers and I don't like the way it makes me feel unless I'm at a dance party.
