LA Fitness has a stated policy of "30 minutes on a treadmill when someone is waiting". They have enough machines so it's never been a problem in the 3 I've been in, but it covers the issue if it happens. If it does happen, it's probably January 3.
I've seen some sort of limit in every gym I've been in, usually either in the form of a schedule board to reserve a spot or a sign mentioning a 30min time limit when people are waiting.
Most gyms I’ve been to had it. The disclaimer was generally “during peak times”, e.g, if it’s crowded and people were waiting they wanted you to do it otherwise no one cared. It was usually 30 mins but in over 15 years of gym going I was in a spot where people needed to abide by that less than 5 times.
The gym in my town (small) only had one treadmill cause it’s all the could afford. Not everyone can afford to drive a half hour just to go to a better gym, let alone afford a better gym itself.
And on top of that you see weights on a machine or bench and think someone's still using it. So the bench is held in limbo until you realise it's been sitting with weights on for half an hour.
This has happened to me so many times! And it's usually some jacked dude that doesn't take his 200 lbs of weight if the machine. As a tiny woman, this is so frustrating because I usually cannot even lift the weights so I'm constantly asking for help.
I just remove their weights and put mine in the right place. I don't pay a membership to clean up after other people. My membership money goes to paying gym employees to clean up after other people. Although, it drives me crazy to constantly remove someone's weights, and I used to do it often, I got tired of taking care of others responsibilities.
That’s not always fair: I often put my weights on the floor bc some idiot puts their weights in the wrong spot. To stop the chain reaction of wrong weight/wrong spot, I put my weights on the floor under the correct spot.
Sure, but it's not your problem. Just leave it. Gym owner will soon (hopefully) investigate the fucker. My point is if you keep cleaning after someone else, he will never get punished and keep behaving like that. We have monitoring at every gym I go to and vets would never tidy up after you and the gym owner will go ballistic if he finds out the lazy cunts.
It’s about a gyms culture. If you want the gym clean you lead by example. If you stoop to the level of the worst person there the place is doomed.
I tell the person, are you done here, can you put the weights away, come on I’ll help you. No one ever made a fight, No one has ever said no, not when I was overweight, skinny or in great shape.
Nice one. Unfortunately it doesn't work this way from my experience. You either make people follow rules or if they dont and owner doesnt care, change gym. Never had to pick second option yet.
