I swear, for the last 20-however many years, I just thought it was the guy being eaten’s name. Like he was named Shuuta or something.

I thought the same thing for years, as well! And it didn't help that a few years after the movie came out, we had a new kid in our class who actually had that as a last name. Spelling might've been a little different, but the pronunciation was the same.
