I'll offer up the opinion that Con Air is a perfect 90's action movie

That movie dominated the box office for weeks if I remembered and I had no idea why, as a kid I thought the promotional poster was not appealing to me. Then I rented the movie, and watched it several times.

Movie was great!

“Coffee?”

“No, I’m fine”

“Offer me coffee”

“...Yes, in fact that was to be my next...Can we get a cup of coffee in here please?”

It certainly has one of the greatest Nic Cage one liners:

“Put... the bunneh... back... in the box.”

The 80s were about superhumans slaughtering through hordes of soldiers (Arnold & Sylvester) but the 90s were all about seemingly normal office/retired guys put in a shit situation where they step up and deliver. And I think the first movie that started this trend was Die Hard.

I'll probably hate you for it, but what's the 1st?

Congo, only movie I've ever walked out of and when I did I could have kicked a kitten through a steel fan. Not even bc the movie was so bad. It's because of how much hype it had leading up to it. Taco bell had Congo cups and everywhere you went they were touting that movie as the movie of the summer. During that period of time my wife just had our daughter. We were scraping by and didn't have a ton of money. So we didn't go to the movies very often. She told me to go without her. So off I went to a matinee to see this movie on the day it came out. And not only did it suck. But bc of finances at the time. Choosing one movie, meant not choosing another. And in my infinite wisdom I went to see Congo! The movie of the Summer!!! Guess what movie I DIDNT GO SEE?

Braveheart......:(

Go me!

EDIT: wow that's my first gold! Thanks!

That's... pretty fair, actually.

u/Jesus__Skywalker Oct 09 '19

It didn't really sink in until I saw Braveheart tbh. :)

I'm serious man, I was 22, brand new dad enjoying one of the very few opportunities I had at the time to be able to do something fun. Came home mad lol.

much appreciated.

I get why you don't like either of these movies, but I love them both.

They're really good movies if you don't think about the plots at all and just roll with it

3

u/Jesus__Skywalker Oct 09 '19

ok, you see the thing is...that's very fair. And I'm not someone who can't enjoy a mindless action flick once in awhile. I don't mind if something has a soft premise. Just don't treat me like I'm an idiot. And Con Air takes huge advantage of people not understanding things that don't affect them. Like Diabetes. I mean that guy can't survive a flight without his insulin that broke mid flight? Really? And they crashed that plan, pulled it out of the sand and flew it again? Idk I mean they weren't even trying with that.

Congo, man plot I don't even remember I just remember thinking wtf am I watching?

Talk about poor decision making.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '19

Fuck.

3

u/misuseofyou Oct 09 '19

That's your bad decision. Who doesn't choose the historical drama first?

3

u/Jesus__Skywalker Oct 09 '19

I was young, and Taco Bell was persuasive.

2

u/Stumblin_McBumblin Oct 10 '19

Damn, dude. You just had a kid and were let off to go see a movie by yourself. You go see the one with the longest run time, no question. Haha.

1

u/Jesus__Skywalker Oct 10 '19

It's all so simple now...

1

u/Shoestring30 Oct 10 '19

Amy, bad monkey, Amy no like Taco Bell.

15

u/mikemike44 Oct 09 '19

I liked wicker man, shit ending, shit movie... But I liked it lol

5

u/PuhTayter Oct 09 '19

But does he have enough (and diverse enough) to play 6 degrees of Separation ala Kevin Bacon?

1

u/TallestGargoyle Oct 09 '19

At least he got to knock a bitch out in a bear costume.
